Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and should be compared to Abuja. Kigali is being developed with by their federal government unlike Anambra that hardly gets any meaning infrastructure from the FG and u should also remember that Onitsha has a bigger urban landmass than Kigali which requires more money to spread infrastructure evenly across.
I share the same sentiments with Rosskii, but i'm also cutting Anambra (and other S-E states) some slack because what you stated is true!

However, even if we're still building roads with open gutters, that doesn't mean we still can't clean the gutters regularly, regularly sweep ALL our streets and plant trees/gardens/lawns (as shown in the pics of Kigali Rosskii uploaded) to give the city a fresh, welcoming feel!

As you stated, cities in Anambra don't get any federal assistance/input in their maintenance and socio-economic activity so it's a bit unfair to compare Onitsha and Awka with Kigali. Rather Kigali should be compared with Lagos and Abuja...and in this regard, both Nigerian cities don't even come close to Kigali in terms of beauty, organisation, safety and livability!

This is Nnewi, popularly known as Japan of Africa. A commercial city with large economic activities going on a daily basis. Next to Onitsha, it is an economic hub for commerce, industry and trade in Anambra State. There are numerous large and small markets in the town including Nkwo Nnewi, which is one of the largest Auto and motorcycle spare parts market in west Africa.

But Enugu City still plant trees and sweep their streets and gutters at least once a month. There might be excuse for developing major infrastructure but there is no excuse for being dirty and not planting trees.

Yes Kigali is a capital city but that is not an excuse, what is the GDP and population of Anambra State? Rwanda as a country has a GDP of $19 billion with a population of 12.21million. For example, River state has a GDP of $21 billion with a population of 8 million ask yourself why is River state less developed than Rwanda? The problems are the mentality of mediocrity of our people back home, doing things the right way are not rocket science.

Anambra State, Government Removes Over 100 beggars and Mentally Challenged Persons From The Streets.

By Vincent Ezechukwu

In compliance with the directive by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Dr Willie Obiano, to clear the streets of Anambra State of mentally challenged persons and beggars who constitute nuisance in most major junctions in the state, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Children affairs Lady Ndidi Mezue, was today Monday 15th April, joined by the Honorable Commissioner For Transport, Hon Uchenna Okafor, (Wiper)raided the streets of Awka and Onitsha of these categories of individuals.

The exercise which started at Onitsha Main market, through Upper Iweka, down to Uga and MCC junctions, all in Onitsha and then terminated at Unizk junction Awka, saw the team which comprises various security agencies including the police, Civil Defence, ATMA, OCHA brigade and Social welfare department of the ministry of women affairs, was able to apprehend and relocated over one hundred beggars and mentally challenged persons, who are mostly from neighboring states and beyond.

Following international best practice, the mentally challenged among the individuals removed from the streets were immediately moved to Nteje Home for the mentally challenged, where they will be rehabilitated and reunited with their families. While the beggars who were apprehended seeking alms using under age children will be rehabilitated and returned to their home states.

Operation no loading, Discharging or illegal parking in Anambra.
Onitsha 12:00noon.

Following the rising level in the number of commercial buses in Anambra State, the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano embarked on signing of Memorandum of Understanding to develop bus terminals across the state.

One of such fruitful partnerships was the completion of Deltrazi Ultra modern Terminal located in the premises of the old Fire Service, Opposite ABC Transport, Onitsha some months ago.

The motoring public had before now been advised to start making use of the bus terminal but sadly most of them are not adhering to that directive of the state government.

Sequel to the foregoing, the Honourable Commissioner for Transport in Anambra State, Sir. Uchenna Okafor Wiper has inaugurated a standing taskforce that will patrol all the sections of Upper-Iweka, Onitsha-Owerri Road, Obodoukwu Road and others every day (6a.m to 7p.m) to ensure strict compliance.

He donated an ATMA Heavy-duty tow truck, A bus and a "Black maria" for this job and has tasked the membership on making sure that all buses load or discharge inside the bus terminal or risk been impounded.

Let me break this down.

The issue with these roadside obstructions is there is no tough penalty to discourage people from breaking the law. For instance, if there is a law that says if you are caught packing on an illegal section of the road you will serve up to six months in jail and pay 200,000 in addition people will learn fast. If you like form a million man man task force nothing will change without a stiff penalty and adherence to it.

The average Nigerian has no respect for the rule of law because he doesn't see the reason obey them. They need to be sensitized thoroughly and follow it up with actions like penalizing violators severely.

Bro, these are just excuses. Our problem is lack of standards in road construction/urban development. If you can build a road, you can equally build a sidewalk for that road.

In Rwanda, it is a criminal offence to build an urban road without covered drains and sidewalks for pedestrians. If you're a municipality head who does that, you'll be tried and jailed.

HAVE THAT LAW IN NIGERIA and watch how all these cities we have turn into 'London' overnight. QUOTE ME ON THAT.
