They are right, travel history or dress code are irrelevant if you are on good ground with your application. Trust me on this, if your intention to travel is genuine and well spelled out couple with a very good financial resources that can be proved in an appropriate manner, no embassy will deny you a visa.

For instance, you wanna study in US for 2 years with a tuition fee of 10,000 dollars in one academic year, and you submit bank statement with 8million naira. There is higher chance to get denied. Where is the money to cover for other living expenses? They are expecting you to live in their country confortably while studying so that you will not resolve to be over-working your self outside campus for your upkeep.

Denial beckons when you are struggling to fulfil all the requirements.
MacTv:

The United States of America Embassy in Nigeria has clarified that dress code is not a requirement for obtaining the country's visa.

Speaking during a Facebook live session on Wednesday, the consular officers said that the applicants could come with their traditional wears as it makes look unique.

The officials addressed the common mistakes seen on DS 160 application form, stating that no one needs to have someone residing in the US and also no prior travelling experience is needed before one can be granted visa.

When asked if dress code is being considered during interviews, an official said: “No. It’s not a consideration when doing your interview.

“Be comfortable. Don’t feel like you need to put on a suit if you don’t usually wear a suit. Don’t wear a suit. Wear what you would wear if you are going to any normal appointment.

“We want you to be you. We want you to be as relaxed as possible for the interview. Talk to us.”

From an incident l witnessed at the US Consulate in Lagos, l conclude that getting US visa depends on three thing:

1... Applicant's HONESTY
2. Luck
3.. Mood of the interviewer..

In 2004, l had an appointment with an American lady (not visa interview) and she requested l meet with her at her office in US consulate.
There in front of me, a stark illiterate woman who could not speak English was issued a visa.
The white lady that interviewed her asked for help in translating for the old woman and l volunteered to translate.

Right after the interview questions l answered on behalf of the old woman, she was told to pick up her visa three days later..

I asked the white lady why she issued the illiterate old woman a visa, and she responded that she could read in the body language of the woman as well as her eyes that she was HONEST..

She said most applicants are not HONEST and try to play smart with them...She also confirmed that most of them interviewers are well-grounded in Human Psychology and can tell liars from their body language and eyes..

My conclusion?

1.. Be honest and sincere
2. Hope for luck
3. Anticipate a friendly interviewer in good mood...

Anyway, l could be wrong sha.

I think our government should come to an agreement with the us embassy that they should return 50% of the fee used for the visa application whenever a candidate is denied a visa

These people can’t hide the fact they enjoy rejecting people.
These steady release of information show they’re trying to warm Nigerians to the idea of coming for interviews only to get rejected in the end.
I will only go there once I hear applications are refundable without any considerations.

How do you think embassies fund themselves?

I strongly suspect that the visa processing fee is probably part of the way the US embassy is funding itself.

Won't be surprised if Nigerian embassies fund themselves using visa processing fees for people wanting to come here.

Weyrey people, you pay $200 to get rejected.

This same hypocrite sharply gave Atiku visa after lobying with a million dollars even after having a pending fbi and congress corruption allegation

Why can't you and your likes can't do without politicizing everything....
Seriously APC is a curse to the development of Nigeria.

For 70% of candidates, their application had been decided before they even set foot at the consulate. It why the interviews are most very short.

For the other 30%, your case is in the balance and the interview can swing it in either direction.

To the last paragraph, I was told one stands a better chance of given visa if you hold strong ties to Nigeria since not having strong ties implies you'd elope.
Yours was peculiar then.

All that na story.
They are idiots who are given the power to reject people.
It is a known fact that power quickly goes to a human’s head, hence their steady dismissal of applicants.
I remember once a class of 50 applicants tried to go for a seminar outside the country.
This was something very relevant to their school work.
The visa office rejected 49 applicants without asking nor stating why.
It was when the 50th person came the interviewer asked why he persisted even after seeing all the rejected people.
The student explained everything needed about the course in detail and concluded with ‘as long as there is hope there is a chance’.
The idiot interviewer laughed at the saying then accepted him.

That’s not true..
A friend of my just got a student visa last month..
I sponsored him and what I have in my bbt bank account was less than his tuition fees.

My available balance was less than $4000 and his tuition fees was $8,300.He was granted visa.
I just think it’s all about luck and destiny.

I don't claim to be an expert.

All I can say is that honesty is the best policy.

Your documents have to be authentic.

Pay your fees to an appreciable level and show evidence of support.

Don't try to lie.

I know we like to say "forget" but that's the way I know.
