I will be sharing my expertise and experiences over the years.

Before I begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I am qualified to take you on this journey...

I graduated from the university in August 2012 after spending 11 years and 8 months.

During my internship in the Human Resources department of Nestle Nigeria Plc., Agbara, Ogun State, (September 2005 – February 2006), I developed a turn-around proposal that utilized the advantages to the internet to make recruitment easier and faster as our mode of recruitment then was physical application letter submission and shortlisting.

Been a self-taught person, I started my computer training school in 2007 though having learnt how to design websites since 2005 after a friend inspired me. I ran this for over 5 years before going for my national youth service in 2013, in Katsina State in 2013.

During the 3 weeks camp period, I gave a talk on entrepreneurship & ICT to almost 2000 corps members of the 2013 Batch A; I was specifically allocated a class to train other corps members for 3 days during the Skill Acquisition Training Week.

I was invited by the State Coordinator of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) department of the NYSC to give a talk on Entrepreneurship to the 2013 Batch B members in June 2013.

I was appointed the Corps Welfare Officer (CWO) in the secondary school where I taught during my service year.

I trained the teachers in my Place of Primary Assignment (Government Day Junior Secondary School, Funtua, Katsina) in a 1-day seminar on How To Use The Internet To Improve Their Teaching Profession.

I also organized a community seminar in Funtua, Katsina titled “Beyond The Internet Basics.” This seminar had participants from the Nigeria Police Force and various associations within the community. I organized this seminar while working part-time with an NGO named PADEAP (Pan African Development & Education Advancement Programme).

I taught myself how to write professional CVs that gets you noticed and shortlisted for interviews. This knowledge helped me in organizing a FREE seminar for corps members in Funtua titled “The Market Place Winning CV.” I thereafter sold them my Professional CV Writing Services and made money doing so.

I also organized another seminar titled “After NYSC, What Next?” This I later converted into an audio course which I still have till date.

I was invited by the NYSC Zonal Inspector in Funtua, Katsina State to give a lecture to the passing out 2012 Batch C Corps Members on preparing for life after service year.

I was also part of the panel that spoke on preparing for job interviews and also conducted a mock interview for corps members during the 2013 Batch A passing out lectures.

I have trained (conservatively) about 500 people both offline and online in various entrepreneurship and ICT skills since 2007 till date.

I have created more than 10 different courses spanning various fields of my skills and expertise.

I have personally developed myself and acquired skills over the years not minding the various challenges I faced. My life has impacted and continues to impact people from all works of life till date.

Good day everyone,

Before I continue with this training, I'll like to lay some things bare.

First and foremost, if you are looking for something just for the short term and not willing to go the long term, what I will be teaching you will be practically useless.

It means you must be ready to play the long term game, cultivating a fruitful relationship to enable you make use of your current knowledge to earn extra income.

Secondly, you must have genuine love for people at heart if you want to succeed. If you are callous and just want to do it for the sake of THE MONEY, you might make it in the short term but sincerely, you will have lose big time.

Thirdly, you must be ready to implement what you will be learning here. One of the things I have come to personally experience in life is that when a training programme is done, it excites so many people who attend but at the end, only few implement what they learn while even fewer remain dogged to get results from what they implement. Many implement a little and run away when they face challenges along the way.

Fourthly, you must not over analyze. What do I mean? Imperfect action is better than perfect intention. A lot of you are on this table. You always want to ensure everything is working well, set properly and is just the way you like it before you set out. It's a good trait but what if I tell you that it can be your greatest undoing.

How many times have you seen someone doing something you were thinking of doing? When you see such, you now begin to tell yourself, "But I can do it better than the way this person is doing it."

Ideas are a dime a dozen.

Maybe in the course of this training, I would share with you my first ever website which I coded with html as far back as 2005/6.

I loved it like nothing else but today, I do far better than that.

My point is this - don't wait until everything is perfect before you set out.

Clarity is a journey, it's not a destination.

I get it that you are a professional and that you always want to cross your "t's" and dot your "i's."

I get it and not arguing with you.

But from practical experience, if you want to sell what you already know, you will have to do it without being perfect from the onset.

As you continue to implement and put out your expertise, you will get more insight, more feedback on how to do it better.

I am writing this piece not to excite you but to let you see the possibilities in your ability to create extra income from your current professional expertise aside your monthly salary.

Having worked as an HR intern in 2005/6 at Nestle Nigeria PLC., Agbara, Ogun state, I know what it means to work in the corporate world and its attendant demands.

However, nothing can stop you if you want something bad enough.

Look at the future, will your current salary be able to cater for your needs?

Is the life you are currently living the same type of life you want to live in the next 5 years?

Is the economy of this country not enough reason to create a buffer around your current income stream?

I leave you to answer these questions yourself.

If you are truly desirous of creating that extra source of income, then you must be willing to put in the extra.

That extra will compound overtime to become a major source of income for you in the future.

The decision lies in your court.

Are you willing to do the extra?

MODULE 1 - TAKING STOCK OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

Money only trades hands when there is an exchange of value. You are where you are working right now because I believe you are adding value to your organization and hence your been paid at the end of the month. Even if you are not employed, you have a form of standardized expertise you are willing to exchange for money.

People will only pay you when you help them solve a problem. The question you now need to ask yourself is if what you know can be a solution to a particular set of people who want it and can afford to pay for it.

I want to make this training as interactive as possible.

This is very important because I want us to put into practice, all I will be teaching us.

The reason we have to do this is to be able to discover marketable and profitable skills, professional expertise, abilities, etc that we can take to the marketplace in exchange for money.

MODULE 2 - WHO DO YOU WANT TO SERVE?

If you are going to make money from your professional expertise, then an important question you need to ask yourself is this, "WHO do I want to serve?"

Hmmm....

Based on the stock taking of your knowledge and expertise, you would have found out that there's a limit to the kind of people you can serve.

However, identifying exactly who these people are can be hard.

From practical experience, there are 3 core markets to serve when it comes to profiting from your expertise.

And they are:

1. Wealth.
2. Health.
3. Relationships.

So, look closely at these 3 core markets, which of them do you fit in?

If you are able to identify the one you fit in, you will still need to dig two levels deep to identify your specific audience.

Let me break it down for you.

1. Wealth
Sub-core markets - Investing, Finance, Real Estate, Sales/Marketing, etc.

2. Health
Sub-core markets - Diet, Nutrition, Weight Loss, Strength Training/Fitness, Sleep, etc

3. Relationships
Sub-core markets - Dating Advice, Marriage Advice, Love, etc.

The above mentioned sub-core markets are not the only ones as there are tons and tons of them available.

The question now is this, what sub-core market does your area of expertise fit right now?

Have you been able to identify it?

If yes, then let's continue.

The money however is not in the sub-core market.

The riches are in the niches - and these are one step beyond the sub-core market.

Definition - What is a niche?

A niche is simply a specific or unique section of the market that allows you to impact, thrive, and make money within that market.

So, if you are to make money from your already existing professional expertise, you need to be able to identify your own niche.

Here are examples of niches derived from the core and sub-core markets.

Wealth - Real Estate - Rent/Commission Agency
Wealth - Online Business - Creating and Selling Online Courses

Health - Nutrition - High-fat diets
Health - Weightloss - Weightloss for middle aged women

Relationships - Parenting - Dealing and Coping With Teenagers
Relationships - Dating - How To Recover After A Breakup

....

Now, your own assignment is to find out your niche.

MODULE 2 - WHO DO YOU WANT TO SERVE? (CONT'D)

Previously, I talked about digging down to find out the niche market you will be serving.

To further help you with this understanding, there are three (3) basic questions you need to ask and have answers provided to them.

Here they are:

1. Would people in this sub-core market be elated about the new opportunity I am providing in my niche?

2. Are the people in this core-market highly passionate? You can do a check online for communities - online forums, social groups; facebook groups/fan pages, podcasts, blogs, YouTube channels that talk passionately about your chosen niche.

3. Are these people ABLE and WILLING to spend money on information? See, some people are willing to spend money to acquire the professional expertise you have to offer but they are BROKE. In the reverse, there are some people who are ABLE but not WILLING to spend a dime on what you've got to offer. So, your sub-core market/niche must be willing and able to spend money.

Are there events that already cater for this market, conferences, masterminds, summits (online or offline), etc?

Are there already established experts that are already well known, thriving and selling their expertise in this market?

Please, take time to answer these questions as many times as you can as this is what helps you to find the best market for you.

Inability to find the best market willing and able to spend money is the reason why so many experts suffer. They create programmes, trainings, organize events, etc but hardly have anyone show up at the end of the day.

People buy people.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about slave trade here

What I mean is this - people will only buy whatever solution you have to offer the market if you believe in that solution yourself.

This simply implies you have to own your message and BELIEVE IN IT.

In my second post in this training, I talked about myself spending 11 years and 8 months in the university before I graduated. Guess what? I graduated with a third class. Look, the world needs authentic people. Not all this fake it till you make it facade being peddled here and there.

To become an attractive character, you need to share your failures, your challenges and even your mistakes. People love authenticity and want to see the 'human' in you, they want to see the original you.

This is one of the rules you must follow if you want to become an attractive character.

Rule 4: Care For Your Prospects A Lot

This is one of the major things I mentioned at the beginning of this training. Selling your expertise is a people's business i.e. it is a human-to-human connection. You must care a lot for your customers. You mustn't just be interested in what you want to get from them. You must strive to create a bond, a relationship, a connection so strong that they believe in you and whatever it is you are teaching them.

I am following this rule by teaching you what I know with the whole of my heart without expecting any return.

I may decide to organize an online training later on, and you may decide to attend or not.

And that's fine with me.

I have an abundant mindset.

I am caring for you, teaching you all of these because I want you to be better.

You can actually put all what I'm showing you here into practise and better your life.

MODULE 5: LOCATING YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

This is not a walk in the park.

If you truly desire to make money from your expertise aside your monthly salary, you must be ready to put in the work.

Your expertise business can replace your salaried job if you are ready to make it work.

The fulfillment you are seeking for might lie in the business of your expertise.

In this module, I will share with you practical things you need to do in order to find those who need your expertise.

Please note, as an expert in your field of knowledge, people will look up to you as the solution to the problems they have.

Here we go;

1. Go to facebook.com and using the search feature, search for keywords that are related to your target audience.

For example, if my expertise is targeted at female business owners, see the picture below for what I did.

2. Join facebook groups that are relevant to your field of expertise.

3. Just like I am doing in this thread in this career section of Nairaland, search for sections within forums that pertain to what your expertise is. There was a time I was offering CV Writing Services (I still do) here on Nairaland and basically targeted fresh graduates and corps members. So, locate sections where your target audience is and get a feel of what obtains in the section.

4. Create your own facebook group, whatsapp group to give out your expertise for free. You can create your own facebook group or whatsapp group and invite people to join in and then you begin to teach what you know consistently. I have a facebook group called Skill Mastery Community where I teach what I know consistently.

5. You can also go to twitter and begin to follow relevant people..search for keywords related to your field of expertise.

MODULE 6: STRUCTURING THE BUSINESS OF YOUR EXPERTISE

I want to believe you are learning from this training so far.

In this module, I will show you how to structure the business of your expertise at the barest minimum for you to get started.

Let me share a story to illustrate this point.

I belong to a facebook group called Headstart Africa (Formerly SmartBCamp). About two years ago, the founder of the group (John Obidi) usually held a Community Question and Answer session once in a while. This session allows members of the community to ask questions while he provides answers to them live.

During this particular session I'm going to talk about, I didn't attend it live.

The next day after the session, I went to the post and looked at various questions that weren't answered and began to provide answers to the ones I was an expert in. For the ones I wasn't knowledgeable about, I pointed the persons who asked questions in the direction of other resource persons who could provide what they needed.

That day I remember quite well. I was all over that post - providing answers, insights and help as it related to my fields of expertise.

Guess what happened?

I began to get a lot of friend request.

From one of those who sent me a friend request, she asked me to consult for her Honey Business.

I billed her and she paid after some days and up till today, she's still my client (over two years now).

Having a structure for the business of your expertise is very good.

Let me tell you what you need to do.

1. Have something free you can always give out (a guide, report, FAQs, video training, etc). This will help create an authority status for you anything anyone requests for what you do or needs your services.

2. Have a basic product you can sell - it can be a mini video training course, an ebook, etc. This shouldn't be too expensive for your target audience.

3. Create consulting/coaching/service/product packages - Like the usual Chidi Restaurant, a plate of garri with one piece of beef can be N400/N500 (depending on the location) while a plate of that same garri with two pieces of beef can be N600 and above. So, you need to create a pricing structure around your expertise.

4. Don't be ever afraid to serve your clients with your pricing structure. It's just like a menu in a restaurant, people will pick the one they can afford or like.
