This Cotonou car getting genuine customs duty is impossible!
What will be done is editing VIN on the duty of another car to that of Ops car. So, if one day the person with the original duty is stopped his VIN won't be found in the database, such once happened to someone here, it was an Avalon and car was impounded for about 2 weeks because the VIN of a car which had genuine duty had disappeared from customs database... Thanks to those getting genuine duty documents for Cotonou car I guess.

Then to the cost issue. If the car was imported into Cotonou from North America chances of single owner and no accident ever are slim; and there's a reason for the sale. It was a sale to an exporter, so someone exporting it to anywhere in the world could have bought it. Therefore a lesser or same mileage car with about the same level of damage since OP admitted having impact history could have gotten to his house in Lagos with genuine custom papers for the same or lesser cost.

Now you see reason why it is good to get salvage here.... I insured my car with less than 60k a year... The remaining funds went to other Important issues... Money scarce in Nigeria and what most people want is just something that will move Us from Point A to B.... Reason Corolla is like Pure water in the Country..... Don't blame Us.. It's the condition we found ourselves

Well articulated bro.
My Honda Accord has been giving me issues of late. Hence, i'm planning on getting the corolla too. But honestly i don't think i can spend more than 1.8m including customs papers. I don't mind a salvage, as long as the frame is not damaged and it was not flooded.

To them in a country where everything is working they can call it Salvage. But for Us here it’s a good car. Just a minor dent and we will use it for years

The only way that you can get a good salvage car is when you import it yourself.

Sadly, most naija auto dealers go for the worst salvage with high mileage just so they can make excessive profit.

I don't know about this but people have been importing and are still importing cars from Cotonou.

Go there and see tons of cars being taken to Lagos.

If you want to tow a safer path, import the car from copart yourself so that you will know the true condition of the car.

If you are looking at buying 2003-2005, then you might be lucky to get a good salvage at that rate.

2006-2008 selling at 1.8 million?

Brother, Corolla is an expensive small economy car.

I know Corolla is expensive bro. I do also know i can get a 2005 model for 1.8m. I don't need the 03/04, the interior is slightly different from later models. I'm so fond of the center headrest which is lacking in former models, at least all the newest models of cars i see around have that feature.

make I give you correct ogbonge advise if you like take if you like no take am, if you want to use the car within lagos and I mean Lagos alone just go cut customs paper with 20k if the vehicle will travel to any part of the country just follow the guy that charged you 500k. as for the guy that charged you 250k the chance of your car getting siezed by customs is 50%. the choice is yours.

Much thanks for the mention @nurey and everyone, I appreciate. Please note that I don't do customs paper for Cotonou vehicles for now, as land borders remain closed to vehicle importation.

Thanks

What you guys are missing is that car models affect the durability.

Give me 1999-2002 Camry Pencil-Light and I will pick it over 2003-2006 big daddy.

Toyota Corolla 2003-2007 is more reliable than the 2009-2012 models. Let's face the fact.

I didn't buy 2006 because I cannot afford the later
models, I am only looking at the models that are reliable.

You are the real problem to think I give a fuckkk about any new features.

I need a car that will serve me without breaking my bank account.

If I need luxury, I could have gone for Lexus.

Would you mind listing the so called features? Steering control?

I have read your submission patiently and you seem to know a lot about fairly used cars sold abroad.

Please what millage will you consider very high for a 2008 corolla?

I bought one through a dealer and the car is expected to land in lagos next week. But the worry is that the car has a millage of 201,367.

Again from the vin check by carfax, it hand an accident and only the rear bumper was affected, air bag did not deploy.

Everything, all in, cost N1.8m

Is the Mielage in KM or Miles?... Average mileage in a year should be between 12,000-15,000 Miles = 19,200 to 24,000KM per year
1.8 Million is a good if the mileage you quoted here is in KM... If it is in miles it is 322,183 in KM... Enjoy your Car at least you know the History of It and don't bother tampering with the Odometer

Mileage is not the only concern when buying Tokumbo cars.

Clean Title and Cotonou shouldn't be in same book not to talk of sentence.

Corollas are expensive but still good ones (mild dent and low mileage) available @ reasonable price.

Attached is one of such for #2.2m with original customs duty. Vehicle came with a little dent well fixed (vin attached so free to run your Carfax and AutoCheck reports).

To the OP, forget your quest for original customs paper, it can't be procured legitimately. Don't be deceived.

Chances of getting a clean titled car in Lagos is very slim. Chances of getting a car that the mileage has not been tampered with is more slimmer.

Cotonou provides you with the true meaning of Tokumbo. What you see is what you are getting not some refurbished salvage/lemon brand cars.

I got mine at 2M without custom papers.
Bros it’s too much
Mileage is 139k original
Title is clean
Number of calculated owner = 1.
Service history is clean.

I will have to drive mine 5 years before it will get to the level/grade of the ones they sell at Berger

Actually, the average price of a clean title 06 corolla with less than 130k miles, 1 or not more than 2 owners is around $4-5,000 excluding shipping (Some can even be as high as $6,000 trust me). This is why it is not a good business strategy for dealers to bring in clean title cars because they are going to stay long on the stand without someone buying them. It is only a few that understand the goodness of clean title cars and those ones are better off making the pre order themselves. Imagine 06 corolla for $5k, thats around 1.8m excluding shipping and clearing and by the time u add profile how much dealer want come sell am?

that's not true there are clean single owner vehicles of that year for as low as 2850 yes some might ask for 5000 but that does not make it the selling price in my opinion greedy sellers marking up the vehicles too much are the ones that make buying clean title cars prohibitive
