I Need Your Advice Please by Softcash(m): 10:01am On Apr 24, 2019
Good morning,

My name is Sulyman Adam

I need your advice on this issue

I wrote my JAMB this year but my WAEC result, I had D7 in English and am not sure if am going to take NECO.

The question is that if I don't take NECO June/July which exam can I take that will be useful for me to gain admission?

If I don't take any exam what is that possibility of getting admission into Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto to study Economics?

Please your advice is highly welcome.

Hi Suleiman,

For you to study in any Nigerian University, you must have at least a "C" grade in your O'Level in Mathematics, English Language and any other three subjects relevant to your course.

If the grades in your O'Level are not impressive, please sacrifice another year, work hard, register for another O'Level examination and make your papers by having A's and B's.

You stand to gain more if you make very good grades in your O'Level examination. Some of the benefits are:

1. Ease of gaining admission into your desired course when computed with your UTME and Post UTME results because it is in one sitting.

2. You will have a better understanding of those subjects since you have gone through them already. This will help you in your first year of study and subsequent years in the university.

3. By having a good result, you are already qualified for scholarships in the first and second year. Examples include: Exxon Mobil, NLNG, PTDF, MTN, etc. These scholarships provide you with financial rewards and are renewable based on your performance in the remaining years of your study.

4. Once your graduate, you are eligible for recruitment in multinational corporations because they always state that in their requirements. Example: Shell, Total, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, etc.

5. If you want to study abroad at the undergraduate or post graduate level on scholarship, your O'Level will help you as well. Example is the Common Wealth Scholarship.

6. To be recruited into government-owned institutions in Nigeria, you need your O'Level too. You can check recruitments into these organisations: NNPC, Nigeria Customs Service, DPR, etc.

7. It is also a thing of pride to have very good grades in any examination.

It is not a waste of time to do the right thing. Do not let the level of mediocrity in this country make you do what you will regret later in life. Please, go back to the drawing board and fix these things as soon as possible. Good luck.
