Yes ibeto is a Saint when compared to these two frauds. Ibeto had obasanjo Government with dangote trying to crush him.

Ibeto survival was based only on the diversity of his business interests. If not he would have been dead a long time ago.

Ibeto is a Saint and a hard working igbo man who doesn’t depend on government to thrive just like igbo businessmen all over Nigeria and the world.

most of the russian billionaires today enjoyed same under President Boris Yeltsin especially Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich. They had the state owned assets sold to them on a cheap during Boris Yeltsin's Tenure.

Not so true.

Some of us had heard of him.

However, it took all by surprise how quickly he became the behemoth he appears to have become.

Some of us adduced it to democracy and opportunity maybe even opportunism.

A good read.

Wondering how much of it is true.

My exact same thoughts.

The same thing happens in civilised countries. The government only attempts to reduced monopoly by enacting anti trust laws. Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon are always accused of monopoly and had been charged with numerous anti trust behaviours.

Dangote had been dominant in commodities since the early 80s and through all governments since then - civilian military, southerner or Northerner. He must be doing something right. He was not the only Nigerian that had favours, he was the only one that maximize and exploited the advantages. During the last administration, Okonjo iweala was issuing waivers up and down for Cars, Rice, etc. That did not make the benefactors instant billionaires.
Dangote is shrewd, brilliant and disciplined, that cannot be said for 99% of our businessmen.

There is a difference between government passing policy that favors critical sectors of the economy as compared to government actively helping an individual or certain individuals to bypass the laws and become rich. This is why I called it Crony capitalism. This is the type of capitalism that produced the number of billionaires that Russia has today.

Never said dangote wasn’t clever but to deny that the playing field was massively tilted to his favor is to do injustice to the legitimate hardworking business men and women in Nigeria.

Dangote did not quickly become a behemoth, just say people only suddenly started nothing him. Around 1985, my mum wanted to supply coca cola with sugar. They told her Dangote supplies them all their sugar and that they would take from her if she can beat Dangote's price. Now, imagine been the supplier of coca cola for decades. And I am sure he was the sole supplier of sugar for Pepsi and other soft drink companies also. This was way before he went into packing sugar in small retail bags for the public.

To be honest it is too early in the morning to trouble myself, but it seems taking advantage of opportunitis is been misconstrued. DIL had never had monopoly of any sector anyway and waivers are not given to individual companies. Please let Alhaji concentrate ....building a refinery is not moi moi you can see his hair had turn grey at the convocation yesterday, he should be at home with his grand children not troubling himself over the future generations survival. ..BIKO if you don't have words of encouragement just keep shut.

I am not one of those that believes he started from no where. He had his own businesses just like so many others before government started giving him special favors. This is what ended up separating him from the rest. Not because he is smarter than the average businessman or any other manufactured attributes about him.

If Nigerian Government had supported your Mom the way dangote was supported, she too will be a billionaire or at least a multi-millionaire. I am sure she is a very smart woman.

As a business man you take all favours you can get, it's left for the law and the government to regulate these "favours". What I am getting at is that Dangote was not the only one that was granted favours. If you are talking about waivers, so many other business men had been granted import duty waivers before Dangote was born, and people are being granted import duty waivers today

Cut down on waivers, exemptions in 2019, Customs urges FG

A former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had said the Federal Government lost about N170.74bn to waivers and tax concessions granted to various governments and private businesses in different sectors of the economy between 2011 and 2013.
https://www.punchng.com/cut-down-on-waivers-exemptions-in-2019-customs-urges-fg/amp/

What I am say is that others businessmen with the same opportunity with Dangote got no where near Dangote.
For Dangote to dominate any sector he participate in says something about his business swaviness. He failed in pasta and juice business. He recognize that early and ran away from the business.

Getting rich the right way is like paddling to the Americas in a canoe. I remember when i used to work as a sales boy to a distributor of anapuna satchet salt. Dangote was packaging the salt for anapuna and you know that salt was a popular iodize salt then. We found out that in a bag of several anapuna satchet salt, one will find a satchet or two of dangote salt. This happened untill dangote satchet salt started flooding the market and anapuna salt became scarce and went out of the market

This guy is just wasting his talent. He should go into fiction writing, he will compete with J. K. Rawlings.

Dangote that had been dominating the sugar industry since the early 80s. Dangote entered rice around the late 80s. My friend took me to his house in dolphins estate around 1987, telling me Dangote was looking for distributors for his newly imported consignment of rice. All these were before Obasanjo ever became President.

This part of the tale is confusing;

What kind of powder was Dangote dealing with, talcum powered or yam flour before he moved to the US? And did he continued to deal in powder in the US?

The story did not also elaborate on the kind of consignment intercepted by US authorities? Was it powder?
According to the story, Dangote is a fugitive in the US and his brother Sani Gote, who took the fall for him is in prison?
He meant coco, smack, elubo.

Why do you guys need self validation to make you feel good about yourself? You guys have the need to bring everyone else down before you can feel good about yourself.
Your quote above makes the attack on Dangote seem jealousy and envy. Lots of Igbo men get governments patronage, just like other tribes. Emeka Offor, Cosmas Maduka and a few other igbo businessmen had received favours from governments in the past.

How many igbo saint businessmen are thriving all over the world? Name them.

So you guys are now getting personal. Ok, provide evidence of allegation that Dangote is fund fond of sleeping with other people's wives.

You guys should even give kudos and respect to Dangote. He never at any time practiced polygamy even though he is a Muslim. He divorced the first wife before taking on to a second one. He never had any child outside wedlock. If it was others that have the amount of money Dangote has, they would plant their seed in every local government in Nigeria.
The same people hating on Dangote for marrying and divorcing 2 wives are the same people calling Atiku a messiah.
