Well, that is kind of the point. Up until hardhome, Valyrian steel was nothing more than rare resource from an extinct city. It was at hardhome where we saw it could break whitewalker ice swords.

Prior to that, Valyrian steel wasn't piercing or breaking other steel artefacts like that.

Case in point, Jamie Lannister fighting Ned Stark in season 1. Only Ned had a Valyrian steel sword in that battle, and it was not shown to have any other special abilities when used against other metals.

NK possibly has some metal workers in his retinue - it might explain where the chains came from, and how the previously shirtless whitewalker goons rolled up to winterfell clad in armour.

GRRM himself said that prophesies are not always correct, sometimes it's right, most times it wrong

Show runners said that people expected Jon to kill the night king, game of thrones isn't that kind of show that does the expected, they kept hints since season 3 that it will be Arya


Why did the night King die?

When he was created he was made next to a weirwood tree

He is a magical being, with the right arrangements of things around, he can be killed

That's why it worked next to the tree

For him to be killed Arya dagger had to hit him exactly where the dragon glass entered, go back and watch it again, center of his chest


Why did they kill him early?

The night king is like a catalyst in the story to unite People, Jon and Dany wouldn't be together if not for him

GRRM used him to make the characters unite


The name of the show is game of thrones, not the battle of the living vs the dead


The final plot has to be a battle for the thrones


Dragging the night king plot will prolong the show

He was created to fight humans by the children of the forest, he got out of control and the children of the forest joined humans to fight him back to the land of always winter

The wall was built because of him

The sign he does is similar to the patterns that the children of the forest make, means nothing, just him reminding them that they made him


He wanted to wipe out all of humanity

He wasn't Central to the plot of the show, he was the catalyst to forge unity

Dude, More than 1hr+ was dedicated to fighting in this episode. The whole episode was fight all through, from dusk till dawn, that's the Long Night that was talked about, not some other form of darkness enveloping Winterfel or Westeros...

People are forgetting that every wight is just an extension of the NK. In otherwords, the NK was the one doing the fighting from the moment the fight broke out. The wights are just his extension while the full physical embodiment is the dude with Orcs horns!!!

Point of correction Ramsey doesn't know how to fight. Go back to the previous seasons and see for yourself.
Ramsey was never really involved in a one on one combat with an enemy.

Remember when Yara Greyjoy wanted to rescue Theon at winterfell, although he put up a good fight with just one of the ironborns but then released his hounds to chase them away.

Cast your mind back to when Stannis attacked winterfell, Ramsey showed up when the war was over and started killing nearly dead enemies with his sword.

Furthermore, remember when jonsnow challenged him on a one on one battle which he declined saying he knows that his army will defeat Jon's army.

Finally, when Jon and his army attacked winterfell during the battle of bastards, the coward retreated back to winterfell just to take up his crossbow to fight.

Although he is really good at using crossbow, a good Archer.

The current summer has lasted decades, people expect the winter to be long
