1. Is in connection with the planet Venus.
2. Venus is also known as the 'blue' planet/star.
3. Venus is in connection with Aphrodite the Greek goddess of love.
4. So the "blue pill" is for those who choose love.

Now you know why Neo didn't survive the "real world" (which should more appropriately be called "war world". Because even though he chose the "red pill" (war), he actually ended up falling in 'love' (blue pill) with Trinity. Hence Neo and Trinity's demise in the "real world" (war world).

So I guess the moral of the story is that guys (like Thomas Anderson/Neo) and gals (like Trinity) who get to a "certain age" and are not yet 'hitched', either choose to become A SOLDIER (red pill), or A COUPLE (blue pill).

Its not conspiracy, he just failed to interprete it correctly. He has some hints on the relationship between red and blue but he is not an initiate, and so until he becomes one he cannot unveil the mystery.
