This same problem of flood that is combating Lagos was experienced some years back in Malaysia but guess what. Malaysia government came up with the idea of a "SMART TUNNEL"

This smart tunnel was divided into three parts, the ground part was using for train while the last two were used for road.

This Smart Tunnel provided single solution to two problems.

1. City flood
2. Traffic with the main city.

How does it work?
On a normal day if there's not rain and traffic begins to build up within the city all the roads will be in use including the one for train but when rain starts and the city begins to be flooded, the train lane and part will be closed first allow massive flood water to pass through it as drainage. Likewise, as the city getting flooded. If there's a need to close the remaining part, it will be closed and used as drainage.

Now, why our leaders can't do such in Lagos?

Do we say a government is a reflection of her people, or a people is a reflection of her government? It can be put either ways. But the government are the drivers of the economy, and thus custodians of change. If appropriate policies are put in place to diversify the economy and encourage participation of the private sector in other locations in the country, I don't see any reason why they won't bring in their investments.

For example, Nigeria depends heavily on imported goods; from cars to electronics, and even pizza . Now most of these ships berth in just one port - Lagos. Tell me why people won't flock the city. Believe me, when the government is ready to make a change, they will.

How many Nigerians are fleeing to Canada, USA, Britain etc simply to see stadiums, airports and other physical infrastructure that their “governments have to show”?
Are they not fleeing mainly for jobs, decent & comparable wages, education, water, electricity, security and other soft infrastructure

Yes, you can say that too. But the government being abstract and disconnected from the state of the polity is not an ideal situation. As much as the people have a great role to play, I believer the government is in a better position to pioneer it.

Well maybe not in Lagos for now, the light rail would have been a spectacle to behold thou, ambode! ambode! ambode! messed it up but then lagos Ibadan is coming and of recent we know Toke makinwa flew to abuja to enter a train, from abuja to kaduna and back and flew back to lagos, drivers shuttling aba to portharcourt want to go and vandalize the rail because they say the train along that axis is reducing the patronage of people between the 2 destinations, how about that? the problem of nigeria have always been Nigerians - when we decide to change the country, it would change and let it be noted, republican nature can never solve our problem only the "we" nature can solve it
