mistijude: You mean an official of government can just wake up one morning, attend an event and make the audacious claim of representing the president/commander in chief of the nation without having gone through thorough and detailed briefing and authorization to qualify him to act in that capacity? |

Trash talk. When he knows that there is a wide difference between... What is learnt in school and what is obtainable outside there... If studing hard cannot guarantee one anything reasonable in life then why study... Why is that our universities keep churning out unemployable graduates. Are we to blame the students or the system... Is not always about being super rich but at lease living above average will do. Why will a President alter such a statement.. if university degree cannot guarantee anything so what will? 1 Like |

Nigerian youths always defending their lack of foresight and proper skillset. They always keep going on about how ' if you don't know anybody you can't get a job in Nigeria' says who? Just last week we were seriously looking for applicants that has soft skills such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Analytical Reasoning. We had 10 1st class candidates from very reputable universities across Nigeria and 3 second class uppers from foreign schools. The first class applicants were talking and acting like secondary students it was so embarrassing, the other 3 foreign students spoke with confidence and used all the right terminologies they clearly had idea of what they were talking about. They all had no work experience but we discovered that for months the 3 foreign students had been on YouTube understanding the industry, finding out skills that was needed in the field, utilising LinkedIn by checking out others that was already in the industry etc. My point is a typical Nigerian graduate thinks he is entitled to the job just because he has some half assed 1st class without understanding the industry or skills needed to thrive in the industry. The difference between these two group of applicants was one group applied themselves and the others stopped learning as soon as they got out of school. So PMB is absolutely right on this one. 8 Likes 1 Share |

baqina:Wow dude I know you have a thing for BUBU. But honestly you sound way too brilliant to be going off point bro. He said " a degree won't necessarily usher you into an El Dorado" . He is not saying don't get a degree, he is not saying degree won't get you out of poverty. What he is saying is just getting that degree alone won't get you that dream job, you have to back it up with soft skills that will make you employable period. 3 Likes |

Re: Buhari: University Degrees Won’t Necessarily Usher You Into An El Dorado by BluntBoy(m): 10:06am On May 11, 2019 |
baqina: You should rather ask yourself that question. In developed countries, there is something called critical thinking. It is a skill every employer expects a graduate to have. For instance, some years back, unemployment rate was rising in America. Researchers interviewed managers and job owners. The answers were constant: Many American graduates are becoming unemployable because they lack critical thinking skills As a fresh graduate in medicine and engineering, you should be able to answer such questions if they are thrown at you. 1 Like |

baqina: What exactly is not true about that statement? Too many of us cannot separate the message from the messenger. That statement holds true in any country period..... USA.....Canada... China...if you disagree name one country where having a degree will guarantee you an El Dorado. The only country where that was a given was Libya under Gadaffi...if you had a degree you were paid the appropriate salary ...employed or not. Many degree holders sit and expect to be employed by the FG. You have the degree... use the knowledge/skill you acquire to pave your way to El Dorado.... you have the potential.... use it... that's all he is saying. |
