Are you really serious? Or just disagreeing because it's Buhari? That statement is a fact. Especially in a country where the youth have their eyes on something bigger.
What is an "eldorado"? The president is merely stating that these days, your university degree is not enough. Thinking outside the box is how countries like China are where they are today.

I understand d statement...If we Nigerians are looking at problems, d president is supposed to look at d solution.
Sir,wch box am I thinking of...I stayed in school to get educated for 5 yrs and some even went as far as getting PhD,yet they have no way to go.. Doctors are becoming jobless..Our graduates that are not making it in Nigeria are traveling to other countries and becoming heroes...so many graduates are thinking outside d box by being okada rider,Keke riders, tailors, make up artists etc yet they are still frustrated..

How do we think outside d box when d enabling environment....is he suggesting Yahoo as other options?

Their is no pure truth in what he said...his statement.."You are cautioned that university degrees do not usher you into an El Dorado"...this is a bad statement coming from a President. What will happen to fate of millions of students that are studying and seeing this statement from d president.
That students are not getting the right education is another topic entirely. They have subject themselves to the system ,it is now left for d government to ensure quality, student can't provide quality education.

Government led by d president is supposed to provide enable environment for u to succeed after ur studies but inferring that education will not quarantee future is absolutely wrong..Going for further studies supposed to be optional not for me to get my first job on that premise.
You are arguing with someone without an opinion of his own. Anything Buhari is good and true. If Buhari call his mum a hoe he will say it is true. Just leave that one. He is beysond redemption

[sup][/sup]The statement, though credited to PMB shouldn't be totally seen as the one talking. It is minister of state for education that said that.Who even knows whether he sees PMB before going there.

You mean an official of government can just wake up one morning, attend an event and make the audacious claim of representing the president/commander in chief of the nation without having gone through thorough and detailed briefing and authorization to qualify him to act in that capacity?

Story for the god's. If University degree can't guarantee the future of a graduate, Mr. President are you giving the youths capital to start up something?

Trash talk.
When he knows that there is a wide difference between... What is learnt in school and what is obtainable outside there...
If studing hard cannot guarantee one anything reasonable in life then why study...
Why is that our universities keep churning out unemployable graduates. Are we to blame the students or the system...
Is not always about being super rich but at lease living above average will do.
Why will a President alter such a statement.. if university degree cannot guarantee anything so what will?

is it the citizens that will create policies and the environment for them to think outside the box or those in government...... Infact the president just told you the government can't do anything for its citizens.

Exactly. He thinks uk and America don’t value their graduates? They do cos they are the future and they get them good jobs. Politicians here are just criminals. They are the biggest problem.

Baba you are the one taking it totally out of context. A degree doesn't translate to juicy job with fat check and all the trappings. How you apply yourself, how you update yourself with skills to meet the contemporary labour market will. You can have a first class in any subject but then you don't know how to use a computer who will employ you. So If you are dumb enough to take what the president said out of context and then drop out of school you are obviously not suppose to be in school in the first place.

Buhari statement is like God telling a couple dt have been married for years without children to look elsewhere for their miracle, that he can't help them...
By his statement, Buhari is suggesting alternative to education.... people that are educated are frustrated and the government by ds statement is saying dey should look elsewhere......where are they going to look at.... check Instagram and see how Nigerians are struggling

Nigerian youths always defending their lack of foresight and proper skillset. They always keep going on about how ' if you don't know anybody you can't get a job in Nigeria' says who? Just last week we were seriously looking for applicants that has soft skills such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Analytical Reasoning. We had 10 1st class candidates from very reputable universities across Nigeria and 3 second class uppers from foreign schools. The first class applicants were talking and acting like secondary students it was so embarrassing, the other 3 foreign students spoke with confidence and used all the right terminologies they clearly had idea of what they were talking about. They all had no work experience but we discovered that for months the 3 foreign students had been on YouTube understanding the industry, finding out skills that was needed in the field, utilising LinkedIn by checking out others that was already in the industry etc.

My point is a typical Nigerian graduate thinks he is entitled to the job just because he has some half assed 1st class without understanding the industry or skills needed to thrive in the industry. The difference between these two group of applicants was one group applied themselves and the others stopped learning as soon as they got out of school. So PMB is absolutely right on this one.

You are the one who is wrong. Read the whole paragraph containing that statement.

Our idea of a university degree in Nigeria is warped hence the abundance of unemployable graduates.

The president is very right on this one. I didn't expect anyone to even see faults in the statement.

Let me ask you this question.....As a fresh graduate in medicine and engineering, wat am I suppose to do?.......I need your answer

If you have ever worked in a company u will know how and why those adverts are made and how employments are mostly via internal recommendations

For the records, i have worked in many companies and i cureently work in a multination company that is among the best 10 in the world in its industry. Yes, some companies prefer referrals. My company does internal advert to fill vacant position and throws it open to the public if no one fills it within. Most people don't improve their skills when they are employed. Please, get certifications!

Wow dude I know you have a thing for BUBU. But honestly you sound way too brilliant to be going off point bro. He said " a degree won't necessarily usher you into an El Dorado" . He is not saying don't get a degree, he is not saying degree won't get you out of poverty. What he is saying is just getting that degree alone won't get you that dream job, you have to back it up with soft skills that will make you employable period.

You should rather ask yourself that question.

In developed countries, there is something called critical thinking. It is a skill every employer expects a graduate to have.

For instance, some years back, unemployment rate was rising in America. Researchers interviewed managers and job owners. The answers were constant: Many American graduates are becoming unemployable because they lack critical thinking skills

As a fresh graduate in medicine and engineering, you should be able to answer such questions if they are thrown at you.

What exactly is not true about that statement? Too many of us cannot separate the message from the messenger. That statement holds true in any country period..... USA.....Canada... China...if you disagree name one country where having a degree will guarantee you an El Dorado. The only country where that was a given was Libya under Gadaffi...if you had a degree you were paid the appropriate salary ...employed or not.
Many degree holders sit and expect to be employed by the FG. You have the degree... use the knowledge/skill you acquire to pave your way to El Dorado.... you have the potential.... use it... that's all he is saying.
