ednut1:Please enough of all these long dead Colonial Men assessment of the entire black continent. If only you knew the evil that the whites had done to Africa as a whole, you would hate them with passion. Late Lord Lugard had the audacity to wrote all these in 1926,when the British were using all our mineral resources to develop there Countries and trading African's as slaves by putting iron chains around there necks and made them to work in farms and all that. You need to go watch the adventure of 'Kante Konte' and learn. A single Man can never define an entire black race with his myopic reasoning and brain. Look at the performance of the Nigerian outside Africa, two days ago,a Nigerian Woman became a Mayor in England and several other beautiful news. Asides our government irresponsible behaviours through poor leadership and bad management,Nigeria would have become the envy of the whole World. My point is the British do not have any right to talk about the African's while they harmed them through slave trade. The only thing is to stop trading blame games and all Nigerian should engage in active politics. I did joined a political party last year August and I was utterly shocked about the low Numbers of the Youth attending political meetings. The most painful thing was that it was filled up with illiterates and people who are not that exposed. Then I did my analysis that the politics an average naija youth understood is on 'NewsPaper' which is lesser than the truth. The enabling influence of Naija's political structure is at the grass root. Despite the economy hardship,an average Nigerian refused to Vote in the last general election. The assumption was "they would not count my vote" I was a party agent for my street and the total registered voters were 897 and only 425 came out to vote. The second election turnout was worst. 350 only came out at the same unit. Lagos state registered about 6million people and mere 1million plus came out to vote. Our political awareness and participation are not sufficient and the much reason our government misbehave. An average Naija civil servant's do not care about what the government are doing for sustainable growth of the economy as long as his/her salaries are been paid monthly.Forgetting that the failure of any state government to generate IGR would affect the infrastructural development and salaries at the long run. 1 Like |

AUTOJOSH1: NIGERIA IS SITTING ON A KEG OF GUN POWDER. Crude oil is getting lesser and lesser relevance as scientist developed greener energy. The advent of electric cars is a message to our political policy maker that government need to plan ahead and reform their old and archaic policy. |

Ijaycool:The recharging stations for electric cars don't rely heavily on public electricity, mostly on solar power. In a country like Nigeria where the solar energy is abundant I don't think your analysis would be valid. The question is how long would it take for these electric cars to be incorporated into our system given the level of illiteracy and heavy dependence on carbon based automobiles. Mind you,the industries specializing in creating alternatives to carbon fuels are still work in progress. There are still unresolved problems associated with alternatives. 1 Like |

What is the different between charging my inverter and charging my car. I put on my generator in the evening and at the same time l charge my car as well. Is it a problem to be eco-friendly. Just imagine the quantity of cabin emission l reduce. Every country is campaign of global warming, we are just their like snail |

ednut1: Wow!!! Is this for real?? Did he actually say this?? This guy describes the typical African man as a community to a tee. He describes us as a community perfectly. There might be individual exceptions or variations, but he describes the classic Nigerian community PERFECTLY. Living only for the present, not thinking seriously of the future long term, living only for owambes and the mundane things of life. (Not that owambes is not designed as a tribal slur, just used it as an illustration of everybody in Nigeria- Yorubas, Hausa's and Igbos. I hate tribalism with my life). As long as we and our immediate families are satisfied any way it is, the rest of the community can go to hell. That describes part of the major problems with our community. This Lugard guy must have been exceptionally intelligent- he really studied us and described us well. Note: There might be individual variations, exceptions and outliers, but this man describes the community perfectly. That is why we are underdeveloped. Anybody who does not believe what he wrote is living in denial and self deceit of the reality of the community (even if it may not apply to the person as an individual). |

When a population is properly educated they act accordingly. Notice I used ‘properly educated’ in the sentence. Our secondary and in many cases tertiary education is as good as nothing. |

Nigerians should get to work and stop complaining. How do you expect electric cars and likes when there's no power. The power sector has to kick start first and also stop comparing developed nation's with a very underdeveloped country like Nigeria. Crude oil will still be useful for a long time |

Sunsets:Its not about self worth bullshit. Don't bulllshit yourself telling yourself "feel good" platitudes. Lord Lugard is completely right. A 100% right. You may choose to ignore it. But stop and observe your country as a population and community. This was written in 1914 or so I guess. Look at where we are in 2019, over a hundred years later, and 59 good years after we have taken over from the British. Compare ourselves with other countries that started developing the same time as us or after us- Malaysia, Dubai, South Korea. Ask yourself why it is primarily the African continent that is underdeveloped the way it is, compared to other continents. Look at our Nigerian community again, from 1914 when we were formed, to our status after Independence when even America was seriously respecting us (go and watch the video of how Tafawa Balewaas Prime Minister was received by USA after Independence if you haven't watched it), down till now where we are now. And tell yourself the truth. PS: You can watch the video of Sir Tafawa Balewa's visit to USA and how he was received on this thread below, and ask yourself what went wrong from that level we were in 1960 to how we are treated now today. https://www.nairaland.com/4933519/abubakar-tafawa-balewa-welcomed-america Direct YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19DvKmU-FGE Watch and ask yourself questions. |

9jaRealist:Bros its not about racism. Keep sentiments aside. Look at the statements critically and compare it with our general population and community (I'm not saying some outstanding individuals o!), and look at our general mentality and mindset. And tell me what you see. We need to tell ourselves the truth to be able to improve. But I've noticed that Nigerians don't like telling ourselves the truth. Its like an ostrich burying its head in the sand when it sees danger coming. |

matify83: My dear, I had almost the same feelings when I read the Lord Lugard's comments. He described us as a community perfectly....and this was as far back as a hundred years ago. People that are arguing against it are blinded by self deceit, and refuse to tell themselves the truth. (Which Lord Lugard also mentioned in that writeup as "a lack of veracity". Those that don't know the meaning of veracity can google it up.). The man describes exactly why we are where we are today, (compared to other nations/continents), from what he wrote over a hundred years ago. The man has vision and sagacity. I need the book too if you can find it. |

Truest:Gbam!!!! You've said it perfectly, couldn't have put it better. Our youths blame our leaders but forget that the leaders come from the people, not from outer space. In fact, it is the people that put the leaders. Is it not our same youths that on this same Nairaland are promoting a geriatric, proven incompetent candidate like Buhari, and a known criminal like Atiku, just because they stand to gain small small change from their handlers, while there were young, progressive minds contesting like Donald Duke, Fela Durotoye, Sowore, Oby Ezekwesili and co?? And they will still come and lament on the same Nairaland that our problem is the leaders, that if only we can get good leaders...... Remove any leader and replace him with an typical youth,(note I said typical youth), whose eyes are even redder than that of the politicians, and he would loot Nigeria even worse than the old politicians. Smh for all of them. |
