Sir, a medical doctor fresh from d University., without job, earning less than 100k and some being owed salaries......wat do u suggest they do

An engineer decided to think outside d box..Got necessary certificates in programming but without job decided to establish a computer school .Despite that he is still finding it funny.Students are not paying, fuel expense alone is 1,500 per day and their is rent,LG taxes....I can go on and on....

Your friends dt are graduates might be lazy and incompetent but not d few I know...Some of d females after graduation went back to study fashion designing, interior decorating, beads making, hairdressing, cakes etc and they are still finding it hard to survive, despite diversification of their degrees...chk Instagram ,u will see them

I believe we are saying the same thing. I apologize if i misunderstood you in beginning but i see your point. Education is good to have but our prevalent situation haa made its value worthless. Nonetheless, individuals must activate their creativity and self-improve by learning trade to keep their dignity intact.

Government must aid their effort and create environment to spurn consumption and commerce.

I give you 100%, you are correct!

My graduated in Nigeria, left d country for her master's in d UK..Today,she is a writer and she survives and takes care of her bills as a writer.
Try and be a screen writer in Nigeria and see wat will become of u.

Nigeria graduates are not saying dey want to become instant millionaire after graduation... Government should please provide basic amenities for them to survive..I hv never had light for almost 2 weeks now and I spend N1000 on fuel alone...imagine if I was using it to run a business..how will I survive?.

Education that he is saying will not provide "eldorado" is even my right not a privilege. It is now left for me to decide wat I will do with it...Arsene Wenger studied economics and today he is a coach.

Isn't this in support of what he is saying? The person graduated in Nigeria...but did not sit down on the degree and expect to find El Dorado. He/She used it to move to a higher level and an environment where it can lead to Ei Dorado. Wenger got his.... but found another path to El Dorado which also supports the statement.

If degrees can't get someone into El Dorado, it means our educational system (Curriculum) needs serious overhauling. Entrepreneurship and IT were there to mould the students into the labour market, if it has failed it means the government has failed

Yeah, you are right....if you read deep into baqina's position you will get the point.

Baqina is not disputing that education is not an el dorado.....but that even those who have stepped up their game and self-improved and become self-employed have realized clientele and consumer traffic is dry. Discretionary spending is low. So to buoy the economy and make more people spend, which will reward those on the side of Buhari's advise.....the government and even private sector should fund commerce.

Their case is like that of a child who has #100 but to that child, its small and term it poverty. While there are other children who will see #10 and jubilate and call themselves bigboys.

Almost all Americans can afford iPhone, but in Nigeria, only our celebs and those involve in frauds can afford it.

How many legit citizens can afford Benz in Nigeria? In America, its a normal car to them.

How many youths can afford a laptop and confidently go out to do legit business with it in Nigeria? But in the US and UK, young lads go to parks and public places with free internet access to connect to do business.

See let's stop deceiving ourselves. Nigeria is in a mess, people are suffering. Some people have no hope of today's meal.
As in. Most the cars we drive with pride here in Nigeria are seen as low class or cheap article over there. Nigeria is far behind. Anyone that uses the presence of poor people and the homeless in America to insinuat that things are hard everywhere and that America isn't much better of needs a resounding slap.

In America, a homeless man CAN start from scratch and work his way up but what are the chances for a homeless begger in Nigeria? Even graduates are miserable.

The sad part of it is that, even those that developed themselves ended up being shortchanged.
A university degree is enough guarantee of good life in Nigeria if you have connections. Except you're exceptionally talented, you won't get anywhere without knowing someone in Nigeria.
Those that learned one skill or the other, how are they faring? Most of them are being paid peanuts compared to their counterparts in other countries.
I left my former employer when I realized our colleagues in other countries are earning almost ten times our pay in Nigeria for doing the same thing.
The country is messed up beyond repair, I had to leave. Smart people should do the same.
Nigeria will not move forward unless she starts to reward excellence.
I hope you will come back one day though. Cause if everybody jah who go remain na. And no it's not beyond repair.

And who says everybody wants to be a millionaire? That is how we got it wrong in ds country and that is d reason d president also said "eldorado"...I know he means wealth but is total rubbish....wat we all want is for basic things of life to be in place..not everyone dt is craving to hv billions and trillions in account

What do u mean by folding of arms., Nigerians are some of d most hardworking people..Despite being educated, some are now Keke riders, okada riders.. Their are now many lawyers and medical doctors that are now tailors...In 2011,I saw a medical doctor being paid #70,000/month.some of them survive on locum..When he travels out for medicals,is he going there to meet babalawo?..If those doctors didnt acquire d education and their government investing heavily in their infrastructure, will he go there...he paid those people their and dt is "eldorado"

Both of u r right though. Buhari is for the most part right too.
The difference between us and the west is that while we r clamouring to be millionaires, the west constantly want an environment that will be conducive for their upcoming generation.
That brings us to the problem of the family, education and the government.
These days parents hardly buy their kids books and novels outside the normal school books. They don't even have libraries. I read things fall apart in primary school and books about earthquakes and demons and life, still in primary school. That period really shaped my thinking abilities. These days parents think about building houses in the village and in the city. It's so disgusting.
If the government has over the decades built factories, research centers, equipped schools and provided enabling environment for businesses to thrive, many people who finish school will have jobs.

So how does a blockhead finish from University and wants to make it when he or she cannot even use his brain becos he or she just went thru school as a routine? Especially as regards so many girls around?

Look at our hospitals. Even for nurses and doctors to get jobs is an uphill task. Now we can ask the government.... Is it rocket science to build hospitals and factories?
We can also ask rich private individuals..... Is it a crime to build same, instead of filling stations and plazas and supermarkets? ask our banks why they lay of staffs every year yet their CEOs get richer.

U see why it's a mentality thing?

Many sociologists and government officials have argued that poverty in the United States is understated, meaning that there are more households living in actual poverty than there are households below the poverty threshold. [89] A recent NPR report states that as many as 30% of Americans have trouble making ends meet and other advocates have made supporting claims that the rate of actual poverty in the US is far higher than that calculated by using the poverty threshold. [89] A study taken in 2012 estimated that roughly 38% of Americans live "paycheck to paycheck."

Do you know the meaning of actual poverty? It means absolute poverty as against relative poverty.

Quite annoying coming from a whole President who should encourage especially his own people to read and stop the violence in his region undecided

That is it. Buhari is a brand and ought not to hv uttered that statement.

Our graduates are hard-working.some have already diversified their certificate but still finding it to cope. The issue of electricity alone is a burden...It is shame dt in 2019, Nigerians are still carrying placards to hv light...

I am in charge of Fintech in my organization.Whenever we organise pitch and competitions ,if u see d number of ideas that will be displayed..These are Nigerians and some of them are even below 18...that is d basis of my argument

Buhari is not providing conducive environment for graduates to thrive ,yet saying dey should look elsewhere....Please,ask him...where is d elsewhere..?

We all know d reality and gradually we are adjusting to it..but he should stop saying it wherever he goes that Nigeria graduates are not intelligent.

My friend, you are right and we are on the same page but we must tell ourselves the truth. Hundreds of thousands of graduates universities churn out every year is too much foe the few companies to absorb especially because the country just exited recession so, we must always seek alternatives since the government has failed to live to its responsibilities.

Education is the bedrock of every society and some nation's are spending heavily on it. The statement is not supposed to be coming from d president whose region has d highest number of illitrates and out of school children.
