Congratulations!
jaiye022:
Hi guys, good afternoon.
My cousin sent some transcripts to use to prepare for my interview like 2 months ago. I havent been able to stop reading since. Every time i read the transcripts i picture myself typing my own testimony here.
Got my visa approved yesterday morning at Abuja Embassy 7:30am batch. So unlike Lagos and being a Thursday the crowd wasnt that much. We got to the first security check outside, after checks i headed to join another queue where you submit your passport so they can tag it. From there through another security check to another queue to do biometrics. After the biometrics i joined the interview queue and sat accordingly. My heart was beating so fast and my body shivered. I asked God to cover my errors and mistakes and give me favour with the VO. Time to enter for interview, window 7 was a woman dashing denials like handbills, my heart started panting again while i prayed i shouldnt go to her. She denied like 5 people in my front without even giving them time to state their case. the guy in window 8 was more patient with applicants so i prayed to go to him but as God will have it i got the woman. Here's our conversation

VO: Pass your passport and i20
Me: Good morning (as i passed them to her)
VO: Good morning. Why Missouri State ?
Me: (In my mind i was okay straight to business) Missouri State University is one of the few schools that offers Defense and Strategic Studies to civilians and their extensive curriculum aligns with my research and career interest
VO: and what is that?
Me: (Didnt hear her well so i asked again)
VO: Your career interest, what is it?
Me: I want to be a member of the Nigerian Army and this course will help me achieve that
VO: (Types for a while on her computer) How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: 3 others. Georgetown University, George Mason University and University of Texas at El Paso
VO: How many others gave you admission
Me: No other yet just Missouri State University (maintaining eye contact)
VO: Who is sponsoring you?
Me: My uncle and his wife
VO: What does he do?
Me: He owns so so and so
VO: Do you have his statement?
Me: Passed it to her
VO: (Looks at it intensely) Is this his company's statement?
Me: Yes it is, they are paying for my studies
VO: Spell his name
Me: (Spelt it)
VO: How long as he been sponsoring your education
Me: Since 2004 when i got in secondary school
VO: We are going to critically look into these account statement and if we find anything incriminating you will be banned forever from entering the US. Do you give the permission to go through this?
Me: Yes please (smiling already)
VO: (Passes me white paper and my i20)
Me: (Picked them) what do i do next?
VO: Its written on the white paper. Have a nice day.
Me: Thank You

I was very confident that my passport would not return home with me, i froze at a particular point and in my mind i knew i had messed up but God showed up for me and covered my error and mistake. thanks to everyone that contributes to this page, please dont stop. i got a lot of encouragement from these transcripts. I wish future applicants success in their interviews. its not as hard as you think just be thoroughly prepared. I will advice that if your applying for student visa do it in Abuja, that is an advantage already cos its like they give preference to students. All the students i saw got their visas yesterday.

Please house,

Are DS160 and visa application payments a linear thing? I mean does it mean that immediately I fill the DS160 form, I must book visa immediately or before?

I want to fill my DS160 now but wait till month end to pay for my visa fee. Is that doable?

I paid him half of the money. I do not have his contact anymore but I sent him message here on Nairaland.

Kept the half as half profit and used a stolen card.... this is my speculation as i dont know what happened so i can be totally wrong ...In hindsight it would have been better to pay 50k through that matfit than that deal . At that time he also paid others as well in the offer. ... give him a chance to respond and sort it out.

My i20 had been on government regulatory agency hold in Nigeria since Thursday. How long does this last? How do I get them to release my docs? It's terribly annoying they are holding just a document for 3 days. What are they checking?! Nigeria!!!

This ibadan immigration matter tire me o

Please let's link up incase you can help me out with any information my passport as been with them for about 2 months now for renewal.

SplendidGod:
I'm a little bit confused as to what to do next. I received my I-20 form last week Friday and I'm supposed to pay my sevis fee and proceed with other visa matters. But my passport will expire in October and as such, I'll be needing a new passport for the visa interview. I have already started the process of getting a new one but it's really slow. In fact, the immigration officer here in Ibadan said the earliest time to receive the new passport will be by month end.

The question is, can I use my old passport number to start processing and scheduling for visa interview while I wait for the new one? Will it affect me in whatever way, going with a new passport on the day of the interview?

Guys, thank you for all your inputs on this thread. It has been worthwhile going through it and I pray every genuine student get his/her visa.

I have been meaning to post my transcript since but I got my visa so late that I almost missed resumption. I know people are going for F1 Visa interview around this period so I decided to post mine because transcripts from here really helped me.
I did my interview on the 31st Dec 2018 at 8:10am. The interview took place at Walter Carrington in Victoria Island.
I got in and was asked to go meet a young white lady in her mid/late thirties. Omo I was already so scared because I heard those ladies deny people very well. I was really hoping to fall to the young guy or an old man so that I can smile very well for them.. Lol
The person in front of me was a rich man with his daughter she wanted to go to Disney, after they gave them the visa and told them to pick it up in 3 days the guy started arguing that 3 days is too much that his daughter needs to travel in my mind I said money is good. The white lady was even apologizing to him telling him she will see what she can do. Here goes my transcript

V.O: Why are you going to the United States?
Me: I am going to pursue my Masters Degree in Industrial and Human Factors Engineering in Wright State University Dayton OH

V.O: Why did you choose the US
Me: I chose the US because the US Universities have great facilities for research and a masters degree from an American University is highly recognized in Nigeria, this will help me establish myself upon completion of my degree.

V.O: Why did you choose this course
Me: After taking courses such as Optimization Methods, Simulation and Stochastic models I will be equipped with the adequate knowledge to advance my career and take up senior level roles where I currently work which is Raw Materials Research and Development Council

V.O: How long have you been working with them?
Me: Since 2016, so over 2years now

V.O: How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: I applied to 2 others, Wichita State University Kansas, University of Missouri Columbia

V.O: Why did you choose WSU?
Me: I chose WSU because it suits my profile for research opportunities and my area of research called Operations research and optimization has a lab dedicated to this research called the Large Scale Optimization lab.

V.O: Where did you complete your undergraduate?
Me: University of Lagos, I studied Chemical Engineering

V.O: When did you complete it
Me: Dec 2015

V.O: Did you take any standardized tests?
Me: Yes I did. GRE and TOEFL

V:O: So who is sponsoring you?
Me: My step sis

V.O: And what does she do?
Me: She manages my dad's agriculture and property business

V.O: Do you have her bank statement?
Me: Yes I do

V.O: Can I see it?
Me: Sure *I start opening folder and searching in the midst of all the 1000 documents I brought*
I now said please give me a minute to get it out, V.O. sure take your time
Finally hands her the statement

V.O: What does she do again?
Me: She manages my dad's agriculture and property business my dad is 73 *we now both chorused he is retired*

V.O: I see you have a partial scholarship how do you intend to maintain it?
Me: I intend to maintain a 3.0 GPA across the semesters

V.O: Did you speak to anyone in the school
Me: Yes I did

V.O: What are their names?
Me: Professor Parik Pratik, Dr Subhashini Ganapathy Belinda Grody.

Ok you can pick up your passport from blah blah blah in 3 working days. Hands me the white paper. I jumped!!!!!!! My heart jumped for joy!!!!!
I want to say please be confident. It is sooo important they denied lots of people. The even denied someone I met there from school. I know the person to be soo smart. Make sure you do not edit you DS-160 form no matter what after you have submitted it is better to submit 3 days to your interview than submitting and editing it. Also if you are making up stories make sure it is stories that are believable. Put yourself in the VO's shoes will you buy this story and do your research very very very important.

Thank you all. Nairaland was beyond a blessing. I am so thankful. I am specifically thankful to GOD Almighty. There is nothing I can do without him

Yes, there are no tracking numbers for standard mail, hence you just have to wait and keep checking the address you mentioned it should be sent to. I really would not advise anyone to request for I-20 using the standard mail, as it is a 50:50 thing. You may be lucky to receive it and even early enough or never get it.

When my I-20 was to be sent in January, my school gave me two options - standard mail or eshipglobal. Since I had enough time, I opted for standard mail delivery option just to avoid the cost of using eshipglobal. My school sent my I-20 on January 31, 2019. It would interest you to know that as I type this comment, I am yet to receive that I-20. What I avoided in the first case was what I eventually did - having to pay. After waiting till March ending, I reached out to my school to resend another I-20, this time through eshipglobal which I paid for. I got the new one just the following week it was sent.

So, I'll never advise anyone to use the standard mail. You may or may never get it.

pls guys ---- my admission letter carries information systems and my i-20 carries information technology. which one will I fill in my ds-160 form

i saw this answer online:

The SEVIS system contains a fixed number of majors that occasionally do not match the exact program name. The option that most closely matches the USC program name has been selected in SEVIS by your program and used on the I-20. U.S. consular and immigration officers are aware of this and we do not expect that you will have any issues with this at your visa interview. The name of your major at USC is the one reflected on your letter of admission.
