Coming from the brainless cow who should have been more concerned in creating an enabling environment for fresh graduates to thrive and succeed after school. Even our university education sef is backwards and dead and he's coming out to spill nonsense.. Well his opinions are more like cow dung... worthless

So are you trying to justify the poverty the level in Nigeria? Are you saying Nigerians enjoy more than majority of the Americans, are you trying to say the useless government in Nigeria are right by owing workers salary for months? Are you saying people enjoy basic amenities in this rotten country? ARE YOU SAYING POOR NIGERIANS HAS HOPE OF BETTER TOMORROW? Have you eaten today? if yes, what? Are you satisfied? Can you say you haven't lamented on how things are difficult in this soak away called Nigeria? Have you travelled to other countries? If NO, then you have to. And if YES, you should ignore that trash and propaganda on Wikipedia.

I RISE........CO...URT!

I am not justifying poverty.

I am just correcting the impression you have that there is no poverty elsewhere.

Anyone who read your post would think all Americans could afford all the basic things of life. But that is not the truth. There is absolute poverty in America too. There are people who live from hand to mouth. There are people who don't have a roof over their heads and there are people who rob to get food.

As in. Most the cars we drive with pride here in Nigeria are seen as low class or cheap article over there. Nigeria is far behind. Anyone that uses the presence of poor people and the homeless in America to insinuat that things are hard everywhere and that America isn't much better of needs a resounding slap.

In America, a homeless man CAN start from scratch and work his way up but what are the chances for a homeless begger in Nigeria? Even graduates are miserable.

What cars do we drive here that looks cheap in America?

And who told you a homeless man in Nigeria cannot start from the scratch and work his way up in Nigeria as well?

You people need to know that America is not heaven. The average Nigerian drives a more expensive car than the average American. Africans are generally more extravagant than Americans.

sometimes I feel so sad for being a citizen of nigeria, imagine a government telling graduates that their certificates does not count in this contemporary time unless they do otherwise or go extra mile to be comfortable with life.
I mean the struggle of obtaining a degree is not a child's play in an environment that is so hostile and obsolete system and educational policy is highly condoned.
from my research, its only in Nigeria that 80% of the students in higher institutions still have it at the back of their mind that last last he will still learn handwork to survive except of course your parents are top notch politician or ministries PS.
...the government should stop telling us what we already know rather find a durable and operable policy in our education system that will ensure quality and standard in terms of research, also to ameliorate corruption which is the foundation of the entire system of the country.
hence, we will continue to basque in the notion of let's go back to the drawing board and yet d board is already filled up with personal interest and selfish gains.
Nigeria is now survival of the fittest and only the rugged takes it by force. If you want to be successful I encourage you never play by the books because there is no law in Nigeria.

You can give what you don't have, yes a degree do not translate to success but at least going to school enhance your knowledge. I don't know the reason why PMB is discouraging the youth from learning maybe because he didn't have any higher education when his secondary school certification is even controversial.

Where is (are) the jobs? This is pointer to the fact that Buhari's regime is an erroneous error and horror. This is sad. God pls Help me relocate on time. I need to leave this country. It is even fair if you are unmarried, but being married in this buhari administration is Hells gate , blood and fire.

This has been my point. Not everyone cares about millions. How many Europeans and Americans are millionaires? But the average citizen there enjoys a life only the big men in our society can taste.

The problem we have in this country, is when the leaders open their mouth and say rubbish about it's citizens, these citizens don't immediately react.

It is not necessary to act after everyone has gone home and start "chewing the curd". How many of our graduates go for master in the UK immediately after enrolling within say 1month they get a job and start working and at least earning 8pounds per Hour. Tell me with which certificate and with what skills set did they get that job?

I know of a doctor that was here looking for job immediately after his nysc and he couldn't get, went out to one of the Arabs land and within a year got award for the Best Doctor in that hospital. So what are you saying the BSc degree you have is not enough to get to your eldarado? It's only Clueless leaders that utter such jargons.

Fella even said it in one of his songs " I sorry sorry o, I sorry for Nigeria".

You guys are comparing Nigeria to China, do you know that China sent their students to developed countries like Germany, and USA to learn all what China is known for today? I don't know how a buhari will make such comment and he will still have fans that support him in Nigeria?

This means that it will take alot of time before Nigeria grows, if we can have people still support this comment buhari made.

We are not asking for the jobs, we are saying give us a platform to succeed and we will. You expect electricity to improve and you put a SAN in office? This is what happens when you didn't go to school.

I rest my case abeg

President Buhari has told graduates from Nigerian Universities that a university degree won’t necessarily usher them into an El Dorado and its not a meal ticket.

The President said this today May 10th at the 13th Convocation ceremony for the conferment of higher degrees, postgraduate diplomas and honorary degrees at the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

Represented at the occassion by the Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwuka, President Buhari in his speech which was read by Anwuka, said

“You are cautioned that university degrees do not usher you into an El Dorado. It rather equips you with the competence to grapple with the ever-changing challenges of life, of which youth unemployment is a vexatious part. The Federal Government will remain undaunted in tackling the challenges of youth unemployment and underemployment through a matrix of initiatives.”

University Degrees won't usher us to El-dorado right? But it can usher your children and the children of your cronies to get anything type of job they desires, what do you expect of a president that doesn't have ssce results not to talk about degree.

Kindly tell Nigerian parents that. Not everyone with a degree is employable, and not everyone who has no formal education is destined for a life of unemployment. We need to focus on vocational training as well as it cannot be a nation of engineers, lawyers and doctors surely. We all have meet doctors who have no business being medics and lawyers who could not even defend a fly on poo.
pls help me tell them oh... Me am not going to any University yet until I acquire at least two skill

True. The minister of education his simply saying that graduates must ensure they acquire relevant skills, innovate and be creative. Many graduates do not have basic computing and digital skills upon graduation. So go ahead to undergo their NYSC and play a way the time/opportunity...who do you blame for this?

One thing is that, there should be a level ground for everyone, the skills you're talking about are also considered as education, and I think our syllabus should be reviewed, how do you expect a student that receives lectures from 8am to 5pm to go about looking for one computer skill, when the person will be stressed out already, and still have to repeat the process the following day, but if the computer skill is part of the syllabus (not some useless textbook they will print for us to cram), I mean a real computer instructor, it will help a lot.
I have a friend that did engineering in one the federal University, for 5 years he used, the school never taught them any relevant engineering software in the industry, they guy had to struggle on his own to acquire those skill, and paid exorbitant fee for it. So what's the point of the education if I still have to pay to be re-educated again, and I can't contribute to the society. It's not everyone that wants to drive Benz or Bentley, but we know that the education will get from our so called higher institutions is obsolete, but the president of the nation is not meant to utter such statement, it just like telling people hoping there's still something for them at the end of the day that they are done for.
Government should indetify the problem of each sector of national and provide solution, but for the government to tell us that shows that the people we have up their are clueless.
There was a presidential event one time last year, and they called small doctor to come and perform, imagine that! I'm not hating on small doctor and in fact he can perform, like to entertain them, but what's wrong in inviting a young vibrant graduate, maybe best graduating student in a medical school, to talk on how the country can improve on her health sector, it will show that all the years the speaker put to study were not in vain, at least he/she was able to air his/her opinion on how to move the country forward, and from there motivates more to strife in the good course.

Great countries of today are not boasting about population or mineral resources, or some kind of being a delusional giant, they boast of their science and technology, art and culture, which their basis is quality education. And these political leaders know quality education, that's why they fly out to treat just headache, and send their wards to have that quality education.

Let's set aside love or passion for a political party or individual politicians and see that these people mean no good for us.
You will spend almost 7 years to study a 5 years course here in Nigeria, and their wards abroad will under 5 years get a degree and 2 masters degree. And they will come back, and their fathers will fix them on top of us and they will also in turn feed us and our children they lies their fathers fed us.

What the president said is WRONG. The question is has this president in any way shown that their is value in education? Does his statement inspire students?

US/UK you are talking about, to open Barber's shop you need certificate. Here someone is telling you about your certificate meaning thise without it are better off.

Buhari is the wrong thing that happened to Nigeria. He doesn't inspire, neither does he know what he is doing.

Their is no pure truth in what he said...his statement.."You are cautioned that university degrees do not usher you into an El Dorado"...this is a bad statement coming from a President. What will happen to fate of millions of students that are studying and seeing this statement from d president.
That students are not getting the right education is another topic entirely. They have subject themselves to the system ,it is now left for d government to ensure quality, student can't provide quality education.

Government led by d president is supposed to provide enable environment for u to succeed after ur studies but inferring that education will not quarantee future is absolutely wrong..Going for further studies supposed to be optional not for me to get my first job on that premise.
well said sir most my coursemaates who saw this started justifying their indulgence in internet fraud this peice of advise from mr president wont acheive its purpose rather it will cause students to see more reasons why they should remain reluctant to equipping their self intellectually .

Sir,u are not getting the point.Success and wealth is relative and means different thing to different people.

Are u aware in Canada sometimes back, medical doctors protested dt their salary is too much, they achieved that through education. Education supposed to be the right of every citizens and whatever they use it to do is up to them.

Education is the bedrock of every society and some nation's are spending heavily on it. Some nation's spend 20-30% of their budget on it and ours is saying it is not an "eldorado".How do we build our nation, how do we have engineers, medical doctors, teachers ETC,if we don't get educated. Buhari can not determine our eldorado,he is supposed to provide an enabling environment dt will make me survive.

The statement is not supposed to be coming from d president whose region has d highest number of illitrates and out of school children.
