Yesterday afternoon, 1:01 PM - May 12, 2019, Mr. Segun, a young man about 20's years of age, attempted to commit suicide by drinking sniper.
It's unbelievable and sad scenes, as after days of threatening to take his life as a result of frustration and failure to get a good score in jamb when people had volunteered to sponsor his education.

The twitter user, known as Segun with the username @tweetsofshegun has chosen to take his life by drinking sniper.

This is not about depression ALONE but copy cat acts. Are you guys surprised there's been more proliferation of people commiting suicide and pushing the scale since the advent of widespread uncontrolled mushroom news outlets called Bloggers?

It's proven that when someone commits suicide and it's publicised a lot of people would definitely want to follow through with it. Most court attention and they see similar cases and want the same euphoria. It's like petrol to a burning fire. You just spurred them on and gave them more leeway for their acts.

6-7 years ago you see people push through with hardship but nowadays we are normalizing suicide and making it trend with our so called hunger and poverty invested bloggers pushing such without providing the balance in terms of healthy materials that people facing depression can harp on. Yeah we had suicides back then but it was not as frequent and daring as this.

That's why in sensible countries there are better ways of reporting suicide instead of what useless Bloggers and Social media people are doing in Nigeria. Pasting it everywhere and reporting half truths and sensationalizing deaths for a few bucks.

I wish we can honestly ban unverified news blogging in Nigeria. Those people need to go.

If you are depressed or feeling low, please speak to a counselor or someone. Your pastors, Imams are there for the religious ones. Step out of the house and don't let those bad thoughts cloud your judgement. You should get help and speak out. Depression is an illness that needs tending to.

I think a ban should be placed on sale and purchase of this substance called sniper, the rate at which people use it and it's ease of access to it is alarming. Just last week a guy of 31 just used it and ended his life.

Nigerians/youths need to think beyond certificate, everybody must not go to university to become something in life, infact, this certificate shit is the reason there are so many lazy youth all over the place.

the smell of sniper is so strong and concentrated,tried it on a roach,sharperly the roach just die,I think it shrinks insects,how do people drink that sniper? who ever originated sniper drinking as a suicidal thing?

This mental health issue,needs to be addressed,we all have issues disturbing us,but committing suicide or going into depression doesn't in any way solve it,so what if you failed jamb? As it is the educational system is bleeped.Suicide just isn't worth it.

I think I might delve into mental health nursing,this poo is getting so common,and should be treated ASAP.
