I completely agree but with Rohr in charge, it won't happen.

Former Chelsea star, John Obi Mikel is set to return to the English Premier League, EPL, this summer’s transfer window after spending six months at Championship side, Middlesbrough.

According to ESPN, the midfielder is considering multiple offers from clubs in the English top-flight league including newly-promoted sides, Norwich and Sheffield United.

The report claimed that the Super Eagles captain could make a decision before heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, with Nigeria in Egypt next month.

The 32-year-old left Chelsea on a free transfer to Chinese club, Tianjin TEDA in 2017 after spending ten years at Stamford Bridge.

“There are some options right now for Mikel Obi, and a few more we expect to see over the coming days,” a source told ESPN.

“Once all the options are on the table, he will make a decision.

“He will most likely make the decision before the Africa Cup of Nations finals, although that will depend on what is on the table.”

On another grim day at Old Trafford there was a worrying reality check for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sunday's dull defeat at the hands of Cardiff condemned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and marked the end of a couple of United careers.

Antonio Valencia's token appearance was a fitting end to a promising career which has slowly petered out, while the absence of Ander Herrera from the matchday squad ensured his final involvement at the club was from the bench at Huddersfield.

The 29-year-old shouldn't be blamed for leaving. He is a passionate person, but not one whose technical ability will define their hopes next season. The only bitter taste lingering in the mouth is due to the fact he has left while others have stayed.

Solskjaer's rhetoric has stunk of the past, but now the Norwegian must act concentrate on the present and act swiftly to bolster his midfield and sign a player who can fit right into the heart of the United midfield.

Naturally, every central midfielder in the Premier League appears to have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and there seems to be some genuine options to consider.

The club's desire to recruit homegrown talent has elevated Declan Rice to the top of the pile, while the likes of Ruben Neves and Idrissa Gueye continue to occupy most regular transfer gossip columns.

However, it is the talents of Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi which should really be of interest when the transfer window finally opens later this week.

Not only has Ndidi enjoyed a breakthrough season in English football but aged just 22 he would provide the longevity required to form a key part of the club's long-term transformation.

In the Premier League this season no player came close to competing with Ndidi for ball recoveries. The Leicester man recovered possession 324 times throughout the campaign, way ahead of Rice and Neves who were the nearest rivals despite doing so 40 times less.

Not only that but the Nigeria international also won 99 tackles in the league this season, more than any other player. Ndidi is a player ready to make the step-up and one who would provide the United midfielder with the strength and steel which they are currently missing.

Yet there is a key issue for Solskjaer regarding any potential move for Ndidi this summer, The African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will be aiming for glory in Egypt this summer and it is hard to envisage any players will want uncertainty around their future while the tournament is in progress. If United want a deal for the 22-year-old then they would need to act fast.

Wilfred Ndidi and Alexis Sanchez during the Premier League match between Leicester City and Manchester United.
Not only would United be rushed by the fact the transfer window closes before the start of the new Premier League season but the Cup of Nations doesn't finish until the 19 July.

United will be a week into their own pre-season tour when the tournament comes to an end and if Nigeria match expectations there could be little opportunity for Ndidi to be integrated into first-team plans.

What is clear is that United need swift action in the transfer market and must learn from the stagnant approach which cost them last year. Many names will be touted with a potential move to Old Trafford in coming weeks, and with so many viable options United have no excuse but to address their growing list of concerns.

But did Awoniyi perform better than Osimhen this season? Based on current form who is actually ahead? Personally I don’t see why Ajayi is on standby. Osimhen should be there (if not in nacho’s place).

edi287:

Oya show us where he said "Kayodeinzaghi" and "Abdulzidane Ajagun" should've made this AFCON squad.
You guys will just be looking for unnecessary trouble. All he has been arguing about is the exclusion of Awoniyi and whether you like it or not - it IS a valid argument.

Ajayi plays In Egypt. A bit of a cult hero at AL Ahli. The locals will want to support their boy which could give him the omph to be a joker for the team.
He is very hungry too, the nation's cup have proved to be a play ground for hungry team of players like Ajayi, recall Zambia, Keshi's Nigeria and Cameroun as case studies.
For me, Rohr made a weak and liver less decision dropping him. Title winning managers make this sort of decision and shut people up with results.

Honestly very good list but sometimes we just need to review it and see may be one or two players deserve to be on the list and I think Awoniyi deserve a spot based on his performance this season.

Egbon, please go back to that list of strikers and suggest one Rohr ought to have dropped so as to accommodate Awoniyi.

I dey wait.

Simply nacho, d only thing going for him is because he is in premiership

U can't imaging if nacho is in Belgium league just like awoniyi, and he's sitting on d bench all thru d season

He won't even smell d list even if rohr decided to increase it to 100man list smiley and I won't b surprise also if he makes d final 23man list because of dt "premiership tag"

Common, let's be sincere to ourselves abeg.

Iheanacho even in his current form will set the Belgian league ablaze. grin

Nacho didn't sit on the bench all season

He started about 10 games and did nothing

He managed 31 games and just 1 goal ,very poor

As bad as nacho he won't sit on the bench in any Belgium club and he will score goals there

Hope you know the Epl is hard

But that's not an excuse ,he has been so poor

He and Ndidi have been the most consistent Nigerian players in Europe for the past few seasons...

Now, let's be careful. The term used is "Forwards". Which includes both Wingers, SS, CFs.

There are 4 SS & CFs on that list and 6 Wingers. Out of this 6 Wingers u may only play 2 at a time in a game. We have a surplus in this position if u ask me. And I think one of the natural wingers may NOT make it to Egypt. I fear for Samuel Chukwueze if the other Wingers are in good form. Hope he is not gonna miss out on both major tournaments? This singular point I know is what Rohr may consider and chose to keep him. But who will he drop from: Iwobi, Simon, Kalu, Onyekuru and Musa. Iwobi and Musa are already in Egypt. Simon missed the last WC due to injury, after contributing so much to the qualification, and if he is fully fit in camp the coach might want to compensate him with the AFCON. Now left between Kalu and Onyekuru, who to me are still ahead of Chukwueze.
Ighalo, Osimhen and Onuachu are the 3 natural CFs and are likely to be in Egypt already. Iheanacho's ability to play as an SS, and AM in addition to CF is what is still keeping him in the team. If he doesn't put in a good shift in camp Rohr may have to drop him and not any of the wingers. But if he applies himself well, I fear for Chukwueze.

Then also we have 8 Defenders out of which 3 are Full Backs and 5! are CBs. The CB is another position we have surplus. All the 3 Full backs are as good as being in Egypt if u ask me. And for the CB to drop, it is easy to look towards Semi Ajayi but his ability to also play as a DM might keep him in the team. Awaziem looks like the one to be dropped IMO.

My likely players to be dropped: Awaziem and Chukwueze/Iheanacho

I would prefer nacho be dropped,
reason. He needs to rediscover himself,
firstly his best, and main position is an AM, steadily from there he will move forward as a Ss, before thinking of CF,

the constant of playing him as an SS/CF most times, even when he score, is doing nothing to his career

he needs a full pre-season under ROGERS,
or he should go onloan to west ham
