That's the thing, there are many average players with trophies in their cabinets because they had great teammates. Ray Parlour was a part of Arsenal's great teams but he was an average player with great work ethic.

Winning a team trophy does not make you World Class.

Totti won very few trophies with Roma but he was a world class player.

It is far easier for attack minded players to win individual award especially when they play for big teams.

Defensive players have to settle for team of the week, month or year, If they are lucky.. Many of those positions are reserved for players in the big teams.
