The king in the North was chosen by the North long before Sansa started scheming full time. Jon was the king in the North by consensus of other Northern Houses. It could have been anyone from House Stark at the time but it fell on him.

House Stark has always been the most respected of the other Houses in North. So much so that other Houses pledged their allegiance to the House.

Sansa was never chosen. I believe it was how House Stark was revered by other Northern Houses that made them crown her being the eldest of the two daughters.

Notice when Sansa mentioned that Bran is impotent and the response of Tyrion... It was to a unified Westeros and not general. There would be no such as a general decree binding on both countries save both come together to sign a pact. In a situation or case as how they choose their Kings or Queens, such pact would be meaningless.

If Jon didn't know about his heritage, nobody wouldn't have conspired against Danny in the first place (which made her feel hostile and betrayed)

If the North is to be governed by a Stark, then the uncles children are still legitimate contenders...
