My Facebook Account Blocked After A Scammer Called Me by Ademidd(op): 7:27pm On May 22, 2019

A Scammer Called Me And Not Long After My Facebook Account Was Blocked.

Good day nairalanders, I received a call from an unknown number around 4pm today, the caller said Facebook is giving out #20,000 that he needed 'some' of my account details. I told him immediately that I can't give out my account details. Then he asked for the name of my bank, I told him its sterling bank which is a lie. I don't have an account with sterling bank. Then he said 'I will send recharge cards instead' I didn't even pay attention to him, I hanged up...

On getting home now, trying to log into my Facebook account to check new post a sewing group I joined rececently, I got a reply that my account has been blocked.

What is getting me worried now is that six weeks ago, I tried calling my bank customer care line for almost 2days, the numbers were not going through. Since I am not on twitter, I decided to reach out to their customer care on Facebook. I sent a message to them and they replied and I deleted our conversations immediately. I didn't give out name of account even though its my Facebook username and any other account details.

Now, what do you think could have happened, I tried calling the customer care line not its not going through. What do you think the scammer is trying to get to and should I disconnect my number from that account( if there's anything like that)

Mods kindly help me, I'm scared.

Why don't you go to your bank and make inquiries and possibly change your default phone number from the account..

No one will attend to me now and I have been trying to call the customer care, its not even going through at all. The number is linked to all my accounts. As it is now, I am afraid to check my account balance

you have fallen for the same scam I almost did few weeks ago. How are you even sure that the Facebook page that replied to your complaint actually belongs to the bank? Those guys have cloned accounts of banks and financial institutions and they respond to complaints faster than the bank customer service so before you or the bank realize what has happened its already to late.

You can't just presume that they will not attend to you,

Go to the Customer Care of your branch,

Explain the scenario to them and seek their help and advice..

It is their duty and your right to have your account secured..

the scam I almost fell for that made nairaland Frontpage the other day. Yahoo boys will clone bank social media pages and respond to complaints of customers in order to retrieve sensitive information.

I read your post on nairaland then, it even made me stay woke.
@techCapon, I tried changing the Facebook password, the new password was sent into the guys email. I don't know how he did that. I called his line after, he said 'do you think you are wise' then he hanged up. I will upload a screenshot soon.

yeah. The key is to avoid complaining to banks on social media. Just go to the bank physically and sort things out.

One safety method is to use Email as your login ID and always make sure your email is safe(don't click on unknown links)..

Phone numbers are easily hacked as someone with a 2mins access to your phone can retrieve your password easily.. Remove any phone number attached to your Facebook ID..

There's little you can do about your Facebook now, just try and secure your bank account by visiting the closest branch..

He won't defraud people you may know.. He'll only change your details(delete your photos and friends) and work with new photos and information(probably a white person)..

since you have his number why not track him down same way police use phone numbers to track down kidnappers

The scammer is trying to get into your bank account using all/some info available on your facebook accounts. e.g phone no, dob etc

Going forward, don't reveal too much to social media especially the phone no linked to your bank account

U can hack peoples Fb account if u know their phone number..
It's quite easy and I believed that is what was done to the Op..

First thing first, go to the bank and disable withdrawals till the issue is fixed and all necessary information's changed.

Secondly, contact the help line of Facebook about this issue.

Thirdly, pray to God.
