A Scammer Called Me And Not Long After My Facebook Account Was Blocked.

Good day nairalanders, I received a call from an unknown number around 4pm today, the caller said Facebook is giving out #20,000 that he needed 'some' of my account details. I told him immediately that I can't give out my account details. Then he asked for the name of my bank, I told him its sterling bank which is a lie. I don't have an account with sterling bank. Then he said 'I will send recharge cards instead' I didn't even pay attention to him, I hanged up...

On getting home now, trying to log into my Facebook account to check new post a sewing group I joined rececently, I got a reply that my account has been blocked.

What is getting me worried now is that six weeks ago, I tried calling my bank customer care line for almost 2days, the numbers were not going through. Since I am not on twitter, I decided to reach out to their customer care on Facebook. I sent a message to them and they replied and I deleted our conversations immediately. I didn't give out name of account even though its my Facebook username and any other account details.

Now, what do you think could have happened, I tried calling the customer care line not its not going through. What do you think the scammer is trying to get to and should I disconnect my number from that account( if there's anything like that)

Mods kindly help me, I'm scared.

Go on the Facebook login page you showed earlier.

Click on That info that says No longer have access to these.

And see if you can regain access using the following tools displayed below on the page

Click on the report account button (report the acc) , and choose the button from the menu (I no longer have access to these)Facebook will ask you some questions to confirm you were the former holder of the acc .. That's my little way of helping, Facebook accs are very easy to brute force and Jack sessions.

Next time don't make your password guessable, other methods I know to gain access to your acc are unethical and such information can cause great damage if newbies get a hold of it
I have done that. Thank you

Create a new account and Post a disclaimer quoting the account. What I told my sister to do when hers too was hacked.

The facebook can open for you,
The scanner tried to access or hack your account but facebook will luck it for security reasons, you just have to confirm that you're not the person trying to log in elsewhere in

Acidosis:

No platform is 100% safe. Just try to stay above the game, explore all options. Don't use the same password on all online and offline accounts. An average Nigerian has at least 2 phone numbers. Switch numbers wherever possible. An example, I use different phone numbers for different bank accounts. Do not use your official email for social media. If you must, then change password. Your password shouldn't look like you never attended a primary school. Alternate numbers and alphabets, switch caps, to confuse scammers. They thrive because gullible people exist. Do not allow scammers render your education worthless.

Exactly. No platform is 100% safe. You have to educate yourself on safe behaviours. I been on social media and I have never been hacked, I also use banking apps for most of my transaction, and never had any trouble.
These are some safety habits I employ;

Never use links to log into your social media accounts or banking sites. Either type the sites manually or use the stored browser's history.

Avoid typing your username and password each time you log into your social media or bank account. Akways use the links stored in the address window of your browser, This will prevent keyloggers from passing my keystrokes to hackers, if your phone or computer is infected with keyloggers.

Avoid clinking on questionable links. Although this is not practicable as the Internet is all about links. Besides, viruses and malware can be embedded on any file, ie pictures, videos, texts, music. The best solution is to buy a good antivirus with malware protection. If not, assume your phone and computer is already infected. If you are using a pc that you feel is insecure, make use of the virtual keyboard instead of the manual one.

Never, and I say never give out your bank details online under any guise.

Did you add your phone number to your hacked Facebook account? If yes, then it has nothing to do with your bank account. The scammer, maybe different from the one that called you, used your phone number with the ‘0 code’ to hack your account. I can hack any Facebook account as long as a phone number is added to the account.
Lol keep deceiving yourself

Its a big fat lie. You cant hack any facebook, you can only hack facebook of those gullible enough to use their number as password

Nigger talk say na 0 code

Lol. Tryna sound smart cheesy. Bushman hacking

One safety method is to use Email as your login ID and always make sure your email is safe(don't click on unknown links)..

Phone numbers are easily hacked as someone with a 2mins access to your phone can retrieve your password easily.. Remove any phone number attached to your Facebook ID..

@OP

There's little you can do about your Facebook now, just try and secure your bank account by visiting the closest branch..
What if you set your privacy of your number to "only me", will they still get access to it?
Re: My Facebook Account Blocked After A Scammer Called Me by Eze2000(m): 12:03pm On May 23, 2019

I have done that

Good.

Now do one of 2 things. Give a friend of yours on FB a call to confirm that your account is truly down. Or create a new one with a new email, username, and password. Try to do this from a computer. If it's your PC clear the browser cache to clean out all traces of the old
account so you can create a new one without conflict.

Create a new email that will be a combination of two names (I use a name from the bible and another associated with a supreme male animal) and two or more numbers from your date of birth or date of graduation

Make your username a combination of your mother's pet name and the date of the most important event in your life.

Make your password your in-family pet name...the one only your grandparents or parents call you. It should be in your native language. pick two numbers from your date of birth and add to it and you are done.

Create the account.

You may add another phone number, but don't give it access to the account. It will just bee for SMS verification which you may never need for years

Logging in by phone, never use a phone number. Enter your username and password and the Facebook apps will always remember you till the day you uninstall or reset it.

You can even use google chrome browser and it will always remember your username and password on PC and Phone for life. Till today I cannot remember my website password cos it's so long and full of complex characters but google inserts them correctly each time I go to the login page. It does so with all the websites I visit. Once you enter a password or username correctly and log into a website, google chrome will prompt you to save it and it will never forget. With a new PC or phone you can get all the passwords back by just logging into your email and syncing

Why should you do all these things? You are now the target of a hacker and he will be back. Get ready.

Oh, and you will definitely need the phone number on all your accounts.

Fix all these. Ask me anything where you have issues and I will reply to guide you.

Sorry for all this. Man can be a very evil creature and with hunger, he is completely heartless.

Take care now.

He did the best thing, I know of a person who reported to police station when he lost his phone, we laughed at it first but when the police traced him one day and arrested him for robbery they found his phone at the scene but he was released because he had earlier reported, any offense committed with that account will be at the detriment of the owner

Once the person knows your phone number and have access to your phone, they'll hack it easily..

Best option is to use Email and limit people that access your phone. Also turn notifications to hidden when your phone is locked. That way, nobody can swipe down and read incoming texts..

You should send an email to Facebook and report the issue. Facebook will request for some details yo confirm you owned the account, and will deactivate it for you, and give you a way to regain control of your account.

Facebook has a special complaint section where people with your problem can report it.

https://www.lifewire.com/help-my-facebook-account-has-been-hacked-2487299

Follow that link, read the article and go and report your case. They will ask you for info like the original email and phone number etc then ID to show who you are. If you can provide all these things correctly they will send a link to the email for you to revover your account.

If the email is compromised they will block the account

Feel free to ask me futher questions.

Go to Police Station to do what? Those uniform men will use your account to feed themselves with suya.

This is simple; go to your bank and write an instruction to ban any online transaction with immediate effect albeit physical withdrawal.

I just pray your money has not been wiped away.
