Hard truth! Each man with his own course. The reality is they know what’s up at the consulate and are taking advantage of the shit this country is in. Just milking applicants. It’s well with our nation.

My friend studying human resource management is currently interning at Microsoft. Yes! Microsoft.

So you want to say she should have stayed back here and dwell on her first degree that would have gotten her no where?

Don't deceive yourself bro. Even Americans find it very tough keeping up with the cost of schooling if not for the various aids and benefits the government make available . The worst mistake you would make is go to the US relying on a Friend.
You'll only increase the population of people on the streets.
If you have not done so, go and write GRE and do your research on schools and courses that fund.
Our desperation is what got us here in the first place.

Most cases i see here are Masters.
Are there no undergraduate students?
Are they finding it hard to get admission, Funding or visa?

It depends on your school and how they offer the course. I know some MBA that are STEM.
So you would have to clarify this from your Graduate Coordinator or from the website.

That is a key factor on whether you would get a Visa.

STEM stands for Science, Technology , Engineering and Mathematics.
Some courses have intensive level of Analysis and Computation and are classified under STEM e.g (Business Analytics)
So if you're interested in knowing if your course falls under STEM, do some research.

The VO has no business with whether your Course is STEM.

The VO's job is to approve or deny Visa based on documents presented.

They won't see the bolded. Sometimes you need to read with a discerning mind on this forum. Don't take everything you read here at face value. Some people out of frustration, and at other times very tacitly, come here to make things look gloomy to others.

I'll advice anybody reading this to always go for what they want. Refuse to let anybody decide your future for you by a mindless and carefree post. Put in the efforts, do your due diligence. Be thorough...very important! Most people are caught off guard due to half-baked preparations. Get a good school, have ALL the necessary support documents, and prepare to have a flowing conversation with the interviewing officer.

It helps to have an interview draft as a useful signpost/guide preparatory to your interview. And when you've done your best, trust God to do the rest.

I thank God for the support system i have in terms of family and friends that encouraged me that all things will work together for my good. I had to come out here to get advice on how i went wrong. I applied to 6 schools, 5 admits and all for Masters in Public health. They offered me admission without funding. I reached out to them but there was no assurance i will be given a GA position. I decided to go for West Chester University, Pennsylvania and the total amount on my I-20 is $29,525. My aunt who resides in US is my sponsor. I prepared well for my interview and ensured my documents were complete. Below is my interview transcript on 24th May:

ME: Good morning
VO: Good morning, pass me your passport and I-20
ME: Sure
VO: Why did you choose this school?
ME: I chose this school because i'm interested in an ongoing research by Prof xxxx on xxxxxxx. Also, the school mandates it's MPH students to complete a 6 credits, 300 hours community service course called Bleep. ( The VO cuts in)
VO: What do you do?
ME: I'm a pharmacist working with xxxxxxxxx
VO: Who is your sponsor?
ME: My aunt by name xxxxxxxxx
VO: types for some seconds and handed a green paper to me, that it will explain my denial of Visa.

All these, didn't last up to 5 minutes. I was shocked because i expected questions on Why US? Why MPH? What are your plans after the MS program? Can i see your SOA? which she didn't ask me.
Please, where did i go wrong? Mind you, i didn't stutter cos i prepared well for this interview. My school starts in August and i don't know what to do.

This is my perspective:

Funding had a major role to play in the VO's decision.
But the reverse could have been the case if you were going to a top school with such or more deficit. Mind you, I said Top school not Top program.
Like the person that had over 40k deficit but for a top 10 school. He was approved.


Secondly, since you know you have no funding, you need to Sell yourself with any given opportunity.
Why this school?
'I was interested in an ongoing research ' has become hackneyed. I think you should have done better as it made the first impression for the VO.
BTW, what was the closing balance on the SOA?
