the woman could not fit into others not having problems with using ''my dear'' for just about anyone, but she wants others to force themselves into her standards.

the said woman doesn't have a place in multicultural society like ours

There is nothing wrong with the word "my dear".

The woman has issues serious one.
It is people who misinterpret the word that has issues.

Dear means something Dear to you.
"My Dear" means someone Dear to you.

Common, even whites dont use it otherwise.

I agree with the writer, most times people use it to address someone they feel is beneath them. By age or whatever category they deem fit.

How many of the supposed educated people would respond to our MDs with "my dear". I bet none. That part of your brain that is wired to say dear will switch off and use Sir/Madam.

I really do not take it seriously, but I have issues with people using unnecessary endearments for me. Especially people of the opposite sex who I share no BOND with. I had this one that kept calling me sweetness. Who is your sweetness? undecided

At work, I tell the junior staff, don't call me aunty, sister...call me by my first name. Feel free to add a Miss if you want.

I address people by their first names. Except my shugar...
Why do you keep posting that pix, it seem you are making fun of her looks.

Why should another Man's wife be Dear to you?

Worse case is that She is not Dear as a Friend in the office, but as a neighbour.

The Man was looking for trouble

So the woman in the OP resorted to going physical on the man because of "my dear"? It wasn't enough that she already berated him, she had to lay her hands on him?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with MY DEAR and definitely something wrong with d man and d wife.....

Chances are dat d woman had been waiting for an opportunity to DEAL with d guy and used dis instance as one. Now lemme explain. I'm sure dat wasn't d first time d young man had been greeting d woman. I'm also sure dat wasn't d first time d guy responded with MY DEAR. And it's obvious dey used to share playful banter considering d young man waved aside her corrections trivially. Jus mayb d young man had ignored passes she's been making at him and she's hell-bent on showing him. One thing is certain, something went on behind d scenes between dem

You have made relevant deductions.

On the other hand:
May be there were people around when the man responded with "my Dear" and it became shameful for the woman to keep mute to a "my Dear" from an outsider who's not her husband.

I am of the view that if not to save face, a woman who voluntarily greeted a Man will not be offended simply because the man responded with ”my Dear"

With all our individual "complexes", we still remain underdeveloped... If you greet, problem; If you don't greet, problem; If you don't respond to greeting, problem; If you respond; problem with the manner of response; na wa oooo... Can't we just keep things simple for Pete's sake? Kids address their parents by their first names in some countries, and the sky doesn't fall.

We claim to be so cultural yet produce some of the dregs of the modern world.

You responded my dear, she objected and said take it back. You simply say "I'm sorry madam". Thereafter you can choose never to respond to her greeting again. She be trouble maker and the guy na trouble finder.

Girls want to feel that way, it's there nature so it means something more personal to them.

A girl using it here and there definitely derives sone form of pleasure of intimacy in it.
