Create value, create wealth, not merely fight corruption

Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, says President Muhammadu Buhari and other African leaders must refocus their efforts and passion on creating value, wealth and should stop fighting corruption endlessly.

Speaking at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) summit in Abuja, Kagame congratulated Buhari on his victory at the poll and said Nigeria must share resources equitably, so everyone can join the fight against corruption.

He also called on the president and other attendees to add value, create wealth, while fighting corruption, and not merely to fight corruption.

“There is one of your own [Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala], who wrote a book, titled, Fighting Corruption is Dangerous; so she gave me the book, and as I was looking at the title, I reminded her and said you need to be thinking of writing another book to state that not fighting corruption is even more dangerous.

“This is a fight that can be won; tolerating corruption is a choice, not an inevitability. It is within our power to end it. That is the most important starting point, otherwise, it will be a waste of time to keep talking about it.

“Corruptions does not take decades to eradicate once we decide to break the habit.

“We have to set our sights high, it is not enough to fight corruption just as merely fighting poverty, it is too small an ambition for Africa. We want to create value, we want to create wealth, not merely fighting corruption.”

Kagame said Buhari is AU anti-corruption champion, appreciating the president for his drive against corruption.

“President Buhari, I wish to give you our very warm congratulations on your re-election and best wishes for the entire Nigerian people, on the road ahead,” Kagame said.

“I also want to mention here, that President Buhari is AU (African Union) champion in the fight against corruption, and we thank you.”

Kagame said corruption must be fought from top to bottom, using four key principles, “culture, responsibility, accountability, and effectiveness”.

“We must discard the myth that corruption is endemic to particular cultures. corruption is a universal weakness, not an African one, and it is not part of our destiny as a continent.

He said research has shown that “the biggest sources and beneficiaries of corruptions are outside of Africa”.

I love Paul Kagame. Intelligent, bold and apt.

He is undoubtedly the poster boy for the kind of leaders African countries are in dire need of.

I can imagine all the itchy bodies and uneasy faces while he spoke undecided

Not sure which Fifth Columnists at the Villa wanted to make PMB look bad by sharing the same speaking forum with Kagame... embarassed

Kagame has spoken well. He is the real champion of anti corruption.

Not to forget, if half of treatment and policy in Rwanda orchestrated by kagame is copy and implemented in nigeria, most nigerians not only the politicians will relocate to Togo.
Nigerians will clamour for good governance and compare with the US and China, but when capital penalty involve their tribemen, they would start playing politics of ethnicity and sentimental persecution.

With this useless judiciary we have in Nigeria, it will take eternity. Just few days ago, a military officer who took a bribe of 166 million naira was discharged and acquitted by a Nigeria judge. Saying that EFCC had no solid proof against the accused that he took the bribe. Yet, the the money was still in his account, the judge ruled that he should go and enjoy the loot. He didn't even question him how he got the money in his account.

Ibori was sentenced in London not because they proved that he stole but because he couldn't explain how he got the money he laundered.

Hope Rwanda has zero corruption Mr president. Even USA is still fighting corruption.

Corruption can't be totally eliminated but subdued.

Right from Nigeria's POE, Corruption stinks

In a country like Rwanda, you could see the difference.

How organised their systems are, tell you alot.

God bless you President Kagame. Leader of a tiny African country with the biggest prospect for the future. Intelligent, resolute, capable. One of our biggest problems is the grippling poverty in the country and we seriously need wealth and value creation.

Watch how zombies would insult this man or find ways to ignore the message. Set of idiots.

This was exactly the campaign focus of Peter Obi. "You cannot abandon your shop and keep chasing thieves around". The business will literally grind to a halt.

Let me add mine:

1. Secure your shop first.
2. Put in measures to prevent further reoccurrence.
3. Keep doing all you can to grow the business.
4. Continue to find ways to get back stolen goods/money.
5. With each recovered looted fund/goods, pour it back into the business.
But here is where it gets interesting...if you miss the first steps, the stolen goods that you've wasted time, efforts and resources to recover would be re-looted again by a different sets of thieves.

I've said it countless times, we're not serious in this country. Nothing changes until we become serious as a people...until we begin to prioritise nation building over petty things like religious and tribal differences.

While this man barefacedly clutter his words intelligently first to appraise the president for taking up the fights; a flatter to rub his ego, stating very coherently also that fighting corruption is a global phenomenon. A president's sole occupation can't be fighting corruption 4 almost a decade at the detriment of people's welfarism. fighting corruption the way i see it is a fluke creating other quantum of things in the limbo like cultural/ethnic bigotry, divisiveness, dreadful serial crimes like kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, fraud and all sorts of overtures. These render the system so unbalanced and making the fights so insignificant since it doesnt help the masses any bit. The president in that regard should empower the institutions to be able to achieve this which so far he had vetted EFCC and ICPC so that he can focus more on governance.

One snag is clear that PMB is ruling nigeria so emotionally and the kenyan president has just affirm that.

This man rules a country that was torn apart by a genocide.
This man rules a country that does not have as much natural resources as Nigeria
This man rules a country that is poorer than Nigeria.
In Nigeria there are at least 2 presidents and yet they cannot reason well because of greed, avarice and the desire to hold on to power at all cost.

My problem is with my people the masses. We are too docile and selfish and find it hard to hold our political leaders accountable. We are resting on our oars not knowing that the future of our unborn children in this country is more than bleak.
They claim to fight corruption but the country is becoming a looting basket for all.

Well, welcome to another four years of hardship, nepotism and economic downturn sad

Nigerians have handed over everything to God to take care of!!

The problem with fighting corruption in Nigeria is that if someone says they should prosecute this person, the person's tribespeople and fellow religionists will make threats, subtle and overt...to the national peace....or will go on an allegation spree alleging that 'It's all selective'....and at the end of the day, no one gets prosecuted, everyone is happy, and the corruption continues.....and we continue suffering.

Sad.
I don't think any tribe has stopped buhari from doing what he wants to do.
He does not respect the opinion of anybody outside his circle.
