Imo West Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has cautioned his kinsmen against the misconception of the term ‘Igbo presidency.’

Mr Okorocha, while addressing journalists after being sworn in as Senator on Thursday, said such an agenda could not have existed as it was impossible to hand over power to a region without due process.

The former governor said he is more concerned about having a president that will better the lot of Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic affiliation.

“Power is not given, power is taken,” he said. “The South East cannot just fold their arms and expect power to be given to them just because you want power. Power does not go with sentiment some of the times, it’s on issues on ground.

“Democracy is about the people and the South East alone cannot make themselves president. So you cannot be talking about Igbo presidency, it doesn’t exist. We may be talking about Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction but that depends on what other geopolitical zones think about the issue.

“For me, what is important is let power be given to somebody who has something upstairs who can put food on the table of common man, irrespective of religion or where you come from.”

He noted that the South East needs to mend fences across the country in.... READD FULL

So on point.

Democracy cannot be blackmailed or undermined; it remains a game of the majority of Nigerians.

Too bad some are prisoners of their own pride and hatred. The SS have proven politically smarter and more sophisticated by miles.

I foresee a SW - SS presidential race come 2023 smiley.

you’re proving Ipob’s point that there is no place for igbos in Nigeria.

To the “one Nigeria” igbos out there: have you heard it? Can you now understand us?

..Better start making moves like the rest of us.

We need all the energy we can garner for a proper exit.

The problem with secession is that it involves war. Regardless of the ethnicity of the president. Any attempt to break up the country will be countered with force afterall, no president would want his legacy to be the dismemberment of his/her country under his/her watch

Common sense also dictates that the only other way to secede asides war, is to modify the constitution to allow a referendum for secession, which requires a majority vote in the APC dominated National Assembly.

Need I say more?

You mean the only way for Nigeria to prove that there is a place for igbo people in Nigeria is if the rest of the country forgets about campaigns and elections and just hand over the presidency to igbo people?

Is this how you people interpret democracy?

If this is what you PEOPLE want and are yearning for, then you shouldn't be part of any sane, lawful and democratic society.

Igbos are not yet ripe for it, honestly.

You and I know that introducing a clause in the constitution allowing for secession can only happen when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east

There was always a place for an Igbo person to be president until just before 2015, and immediately after.

The one Nigeria Igbos have been drowned by the voice of the incorrigible.

To amend the antipathy they've brewed in the mind of the onlookers, would take some doing.

Democaracy is not for a single tribe in Nigeria.

The SS has moved on, despite how they may have felt after 2015.

Today, they have made in-roads into this government and would wield even greater infleunce in the years to come as they play the game of democracy.

There is a reason why diplomacy is a sought after course.

Diplomacy is severly lacking somewhere and until you look into your past, you would not understand how your future is being shaped.

a bloodless secession is possible. South Sudan did it.

Besides, no country would support the Nigerian state in this current political dispensation.

Migration of igbos back to the east is already ongoing wch is slow bt ongoing.

I like the current political atmosphere..it’s proving my point all along.

Igbo presidency is not coming any time soon. Perhaps later in the future it will come.

They have sworn to stick to one party regardless of the situation.

South Sudan? My friend you obviously haven't read the history books. South Sudan rebel groups waged a bloody war on and off against the Arab dominated government in Khartoum for over 30 years. This war resulted in over 1 million dead and 3 million displaced. It was only when the combatants got tired of the fighting that they agreeed to make peace under the auspices of the UN. The referendum came after the bloody war

Bloodless? Sudan? Do you live under a rock? shocked

That would mean through the legislature even if it were true. Do you have a referendum clause in your constitution that will allow that?

That guy you quoted doesn't read. He gets his news from his supreme director otherwise how can an adult who has access to the internet not know that South Sudan fought a civil war for 30years? cheesy

So what's the way out because I also want my town to be carved out of Nigeria and be a separate country.

Tell all your village chief to assemble all the village elders and declare your town a sovereign, independent republic. But learn from the lessons of history and raise an an army powerful enough to defeat the Nigerian army on the battle field. Do this and you will have your country

The Region now known as South Sudan fought TWO civil wars and prolonged Guerilla wars with Sudan until a statement was reached when both sides were tired of fighting and agreed on peaceful separation.

The South-Sudan referendum was the climax of the and NOT the only event in the secession process

A truce was called before the secession came to past.

Same thing with us here..

We’ve fought, it’s over.. a diplomatic secession is very feasible as both sides have seen what the other is capable of in a war.

No Nigerian president will be willing to go to war with the igbos again..

The North is just playing kalo kalo with the south.

It's either the SS, or it goes North.

More realistically, it's either the SS, SW or the North (quite unlikely).

The SS and the North have no problems voting for the SW and vice versa as recent trends can prove.

I laugh at these threads being created against igbos. It proves a point...people know igbos are very important...so they talk about us steady. No hausa, edo, kanuri, ibibio and idoma has ever been president..yet nobody is gloating about it.

Igbos are the east coast overdose.

2ndly...okorocha is the only person who wanted igbo presidency anyhow. Igbo bodies never demanded it...only okorocha who hopes to be president bores us with it. Thank God his eye don clear.

3rd...they gave ss DSP and has been going around telling igbos that ss has moved on by being DSP. Fools 4got that an igboman just held that position for record 12yrs not 2 weeks ago. The same ss u claim moved on rejected buhari entirely in 2019. Distorted logic of apc keyboard warriors.

4thly...poltics is a marathon..igbos were in mainstream politics since 1960. Please, spare us nonsense.

5thly...biafra never died and will never die...its not about buhari...its just about value system. We dont share the same value system with the north or west.
