Look, the show isn’t perfect. The writing is sometimes a mess to the point where it feels like something must have been edited out. One character is said to wander in and out of the house as she pleases, and another character who has been a resident for decades has never met her before. Another time, everyone decides to leave forever, only to return the next scene.

But the mess, frankly, is part of the Doom Patrol aesthetic. It’s supposed to be messy, and weird, and not all fit together in the right ways. It’s supposed to make you question structure, the way a superhero show and perhaps even a TV show should be. That it’s not always successful is fine, because where it does win puts it on par with any premium drama on TV. It’s part and parcel with other genre-bending shows like AMC’s Preacher and FX's Legion.

Doom Patrol is gritty, fun and a little gory. It’s so weird, and unlike any other hero show I’ve ever seen. It is rated Mature - Expletives are used with reckless abandon.

It's a top show, but I understand that it's not for everyone. People with basic sense of humor, and penchant for linear storytelling (as opposed to non-linear) are likely to not take kindly to it.

Finally, someone who understood the reference. And yeah, that's Soviet Russia for you man. Although I understood where Dyatlov was coming from (still the most arrogant person in the whos), there is no way on earth a nuclear reactor is supposed to explode, but somehow it did. And it's thanks to the Russian government and their love for cheaply built reactor.

While I agree with you on the power of the mind, that wasn't why Dyatlov wasn't affected. He wasnt as exposed to the radiation as others since he was mostly in the lab, the conference room and the infirmary.

You'll remember he volunteered to go to the roof only for him to throw up and then collapsed. From the way he was looking at the other dude who was forced to the roof, it appeared he acted throwing up.


Had he gone to the roof as he volunteered, not even his mind would have saved him.

PS: He also does not come across to me as a good man, he is nasty, stubborn, dogmatic and highly insultive.

C'mon, that was a troll post. I've just been obsessed with his character since I saw the show. It's a good example of wicked people that live long. He certainly lived longer than Boris and Legosov whom didn't work too long around the radiation site.

oh okay cuz i was wondering, i knew i read somewhere it was cancelled.

Seems like some people don't know how TV cancellations work.

If a tv show gets cancelled, it doesn't mean it's the ongoing season that is affected, rather, it's the followup (season 2 in regards to Swamp Thing) that won't happen.

Please if you don't like doom patrol's pilot, don't bother watching again.


For me it's the best superhero show since daredevil. People don't like it because it's weird like legion.

Also anybody trashing chernobyl here should go and re-examine his/her thinking faculty.

That's the only show that should be immune to criticisms this year. It was frigging perfect in every way
