Wow... Lots of comments from supposedly "exposed" posters on this thread reeks of ignorance and naivety. The use of force is lawful when the officer reasonably believes the subject poses a significant threat of serious bodily injury or death to themselves or others. You don't threaten an unarmed citizen with a gun it shows poor training. That officer is a menace to the public and should be suspended or fired. The pregnant mother deserves better than this type of inexcusable and unjustifiable rage and abuse of power from the police who are meant to protect. This happened in Phoenix, Arizona and they were a black couple with kids whose 4yr old daughter mistakenly took a doll from the the dollar store. Even if the parents used her to steal it which i doubt its not enough reason to threaten to shoot them in the head in front of their children and trying to drag the one year old daughter out of her mother's arms with brute force manhandling the husband and unlawfully arresting them This is wrong on every level its a violation of their civil rights. Well they filed a claim for $10M as compensation.

How are we even sure she didn’t take the toy and give them to the baby?

4 years, 5 years!! Whatever age, you child is your responsibility. If they take something off the shelves, collect them and put them back or pay for them. If you can’t control them when they are in such an environment, don’t take them there.

This incident brought back the memory of when a family friend went to a mall to buy cloth, now that they are through and ready to go, only to discover that their son wasn't with them again they searched everywhere they couldn't find him, it took the intervention of CCTV to find the kid under hanged cloth deeply asleep. All of them were just laughing. U know kids will always be kid and u can't always fault the parents for there trivial actions.

In the Uk, police are not normally called if the worth of the shoplifted item isn’t up to £20.

Now, it’s a habit by some women in some council estates to shoplift using their children. That’s wrong. A mum should be responsible for her kids. Negligence isn’t an excuse. If someone saw the action from the cctv, how could a mum miss that? Let’s assume, she wasn’t looking when the kid took the toy, was she also blind to see the kid holding that when she went to the till?

Some women are notorious for that. Their faces are marked and watched on the cctv as they enter the store with their children. Once they are spotted in the act, the police are informed immediately irrespective of the worth of the item that their child/children stole from the shelf.

If the woman above was not aware and she was reminded by either security or police, the best thing to do would be to apologise and pay for it. Police can’t just approach her and wave the gun at her. She must’ve been reminded many times.

It was £20, now the police wouldn't come unless one steals goods worth £200. police will not waste time, petrol, paperwork for just £20 worth of stolen goods. especially now that they are short of staffs.


Yes, some people are regular shoplifters, some are innocent women who were not aware that their child/children have picked something out of the store, My son does it, he thinks the goods belongs to him. even sometimes at the till after paying i realise he took a bag of crisp, it's not parents fault sometimes.

i let them go After retrieving the goods. shoplifting is not a big deal of crime in the UK. even when they are caught and police are called, the police would issue them with a fine of £70 even if they stole goods worth £500 or more And let them go.

they come back again the next day steals again, gets another £70 fine and on and on it goes. no jail.
this American police has no reason to pull his weapon unless the situation was more than a shoplifiting.

You should be asking yourself that question. Your sentiments about this incident is because it’s a black family involved.

Ask yourself how a father and mother went shopping and didn’t observe their child take something off the shelf, they walked tight to the till or walked out of the store and still didn’t see that but someone metres away from them saw all that!

I’ve worked in the security industry as a student and I have been involved in similar situations. People from all races shoplift but every time a black family is involved, guess who they send to intervene? Me...so the issue of racism doesn’t rear its ugly head. It’s worrisome when you see a mother on cctv, grab something, shove it inside a child’s back pack. You ban them from the store and they keep coming back.
Whenever the usual suspects enters the store and their favourite aisle, they never disappoint. You will see them on cctv usually with innocent children. Sad.

The foolish and over reacting police in that video might have been alerted when the acts were going on in my opinion otherwise if this was an isolated case of a child walking out of the store with an item, the store staff or security would’ve confronted them and retrieve the said item.

I see a frustrated supermarket security alerting the police when they saw this family shoplifting using their child.
