Well quitting comes with a personal conviction. Sometimes shouting say no to cultism might not be enough to stop them not until they have the personal conviction to quit. While some will have to go through the wilderness before they quit. Just like this person u mentioned, the wilderness is him getting arrested and put in jail. While in jail, he begins to think back all the atrocities committed and starts to regret his actions. He becomes remorseful and only wish for a second chance to correct his mistakes again. When people like that comes out, they become a better person and use their own experience to teach others. If some people don't go through the wilderness experience (jail, loose body parts or escape death and all) they won't have the conviction to quit. I can perfectly relate. I schooled at Ekpoma And we made this same mistake. Till today after so many years of graduation, i always think twice if I am to visit that town despite the fact that was the town i was raised and schooled in and my parents still reside there. It is an evil game that has no rules in playing the game. There is no greater evil that a young chap can indulge in than cultism. The last major cult war in Ekpoma was between Ayes and Maphites. In that war, Maphites killed their chief butcher and another top officer. Ayes retaliated and killed an elderly Maphite who was a well respected member of the community married with kids. His wife is a top officer in the Civil defence in Edo State. Several horrible deaths were recorded until a major clampdown on cult activity was forcibly enacted by the university authorities in collaboration with former repented cultists, Army, Police, New Anticult and Community vigilantes. Up till now there is peace but it only takes a little time before full time cult activities resume.

That’s why it is anecdotal and to be taken with a grain of salt. When I was younger I also totally believed those Nzeogwu turned into fly and Indian football stories and repeated them like I was there. 99.9% of people who repeat these stories were not there. U can only deduce that they likely never happened as told. Trust me you have nothing to worry about as far as UNEC is concerned. It's one of the safest campus in Nigeria, nobody have the time for such, everyone there is busy with their book because most of the students are studying professional courses which involves a lot of reading and majority of them are young. You will have a lot of 15,16 and 17year old course mates in first year. In UNEC you are either chilling or jacking nothing else. If your roommates steal from you and you report to security, the roommate will be carried to the security building and will be asked to pay for it.

Exactly, majority of the students in UNEC are very young. Throughout my stay there I never heard anything about cult there. As a student there you are free to contest for any position without fear of being attacked by anyone. And the fear of the security department is the beginning of wisdom. If they as much as catch you fighting you are in trouble oh. Your name dare not enter their black book. During final papers they chased us from pouring water around the lecture halls.
