I know we need money but people should be empathetic with the kind of project they propose to the government because we all know that this will never work well in Nigeria because the foundation is faulty. We have not fixed out technology and engineering sector to build a solid manpower and technical know how, we are talking of CCTV that will not capture hinterland and inner villages...
Hope it comes to fruition this time around.
We've been hearing this since 1999. (20 years ago!).

This is how sane country operate.
CCTV is not about catching criminals alone, but,
People having the knowledge of a camera looking at what they do alone, mind whatever evil plan they want to perpetuate and 'behave normal'!

Nigeria will be great again.
Which electricity will they use... U see a country moving backward u say great again

What Nigeria should be talking about at least the next 4yrs is power supply..... Get this done and buhari will be the best President in history of Nigeria...

Power supply will resurrect the economy, investors will troop in, SME will start coming from various angles, unemployment will reduce drastically...

Then the CCTV will work very well..... A country that can't even matiain street light is talking of CCTV....

Pls which kind drugs this people dey take self ....

It's quite simple, regulate all buildings in the state to install cameras, and government install on public places, parks, public buildings, street lights, and police and public vehicles. These things are easy to achieve, employ strategic thinkers, all these problems will be solved under 18 months.
Re: Insecurity: Police To Install Cctvs Nationwide by inspector44(m): 12:47pm On Jun 18, 2019
Another contract for APC boys...... O God help dis country. This should be the responsibility of State Governors via their security vote and not that of the police to do

Hmmmmm
Re: Insecurity: Police To Install Cctvs Nationwide by Salmsyn: 12:51pm On Jun 18, 2019
This is a welcome step.
It will also be good to check the police officers by making sure they wear a camera on their uniform to show how the officers carry out their duties.
This will reduce the abuse use of power by the policemen.

Faithway10:
The state of insecurity in the country has prompted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to begin urgent plans to install “closed-circuit television (CCTVs) and other cutting-edge technologies in major cities in the country for city surveillance”.

Adamu made the disclosure on Monday while reviewing the security situation in the country for the past one month with senior police officers in Abuja.

In addition to installing CCTVs, so as to enhance the fight against criminality, the IGP disclosed that there are “plans directed at re-organising and re-launching the Safer Highway and Safer City Models of Policing which will entail the acquisition of new fleet of vehicles that will be deployed to dominate the public space”.

CCTV cannot save Nigeria, the only thing that can save this country is regional government (federalism), anything less is a waste of time and money
Re: Insecurity: Police To Install Cctvs Nationwide by duchez(m): 2:08pm On Jun 18, 2019
Another scheme to waste public funds. They should get the ones installed in Abuja working first.

which hope... You want set up CCTV in a country that does not have data? In your personal life is you life arrange that you always put the cart before the horse?
Re: Insecurity: Police To Install Cctvs Nationwide by Dellfoam(m): 2:39pm On Jun 18, 2019
Guys,

Although this is a nice development, but I still don't believe this will work out very well in Nigeria.

This is because, CCTV will not perform efficiently under a poor Networking system.

Unless 5G Network is rolled out in Nigeria, The police will dump it.

5G has great potential for the world especially in the area of security.

You can read the concept of 5G network: https://ormail..com/2019/06/overview-5g-network-and-what-it-holds.html?m=1

..how was CCTV used to catch criminals during bank robberies in Nigeria. You havent read how cctv was effective in solving many crimes in naija even without database you are trying to talk about....just imagine if implemented on a wilder scale...You just hate any progress, always seeing wrong...i don't blame you though, is the system....

you don't compare a private sector and a Nigerian government, especially one that has failed in fulfilling virtually all its 2015 promises.
Re: Insecurity: Police To Install Cctvs Nationwide by chinedumoooo: 5:40pm On Jun 18, 2019
You are so blunt and unknowledgeable by making this unthinkable plan of yours.
You plan to install CCTV camera in cities why we have bandits, kidnappers, boko Haram boy in the bushes and villages.
How do you plan to power the gadgets, since we have epileptic power supply.

The one installed in Abuja like 8years ago never worked and now they want to install all over againhuhhuhhuh What kind of country is this? One really wants to be optimistic about Nigeria, but really we have serious issues if we are going back to cttv all over again.

Besides we don't have the other enablers to make cctv work. Cctv is not the end, but a means to an end. If the control room sees a crime on cctv and police responds in 1hr after the criminals have fled, then what's the point? If we have no record of number plates, what's the point, if we have no facial recognition what's the point?

The state-owned communications infrastructure has not been maintained. The state-owned power resources have not been maintained.
The state-owned CCTV infrastructure will ride on the backbone of what exactlyhuh
