LOL. Let them try it. Let's see how Portugal fares against the likes of Columbia, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Venezuela. And I don't even wanna mention the likes of Brazil or Argentina sef. Bottom line, Portugal won't make it out of their group grin

O pari

I think this is just your perspective based on how you view South American teams as tough on the pitch.

But in reality, European teams are more technical and have a better head to head than them.

E.g Chile could not beat Germany in the last confed cup final, Germany defeats Argentina and Brazil recently, even us (Nigeria) beat Venezuela 3 - 1 in our last friendly game with them.

See what I saw on Twitter

U know each time I see these our U15 teams I always have the feeling that a proper selection process was not done.

That's why when it comes to the U17 only few of those previous U15 players progress through because a good number of quality players were left out during the U15.

A few connected academies are just benefitting from these U15 programs.

You do understand that in 2016, Portugal actually finished 3rd in their group. Then was it not Wales they faced in the semifinals? Luckily escaping the big teams on their way to the final, in the final I think Griezman missed a penalty or was it a seater and Portugal won in extra time. Take away that best loser spot Portugal would not have qualified at all, then had it been they faced better teams they wouldn't have qualified either, in the Copa America if you rank third you are going home. Then in the UNL they faced Switzerland and Netherlands, no Spain, Germany, France, Beligium even England, I am not sure I get the point behind that UNL honestly.

They are better now than they were in 2016. However, I'm just saying they will compete and they will definitely make it out of their group if invited to the Copa America. Even the organizers recognized them as a real threat.

Those other teams you mentioned fell off eventually on the way to the final: Netherlands knocked out France and Germany. Switzerland knocked out Belgium. England knocked out Spain and Croatia. Portugal knocked out Italy. This winners then moved on to the Semis with automatic qualification to EURO 2020. So I think it's a very interesting tournament that one shouldn't underrate. Portugal did well.

portugal beat croatia (future world cup finalists) beat an inform welsh team that had defeated favourites belgium so it wasn't smooth sailing to the finals for portugal like you are making it seem

italy finished 3rd in their group in USA 94 got to the finals. Argentina finished 3rd in their group in italia 90 got to the final so what is your point?

I agree. The Euro teams may be more technical but it's also easier for mediocre teams to win the Euro championship than Copa America. Hence, you can see countries like Greece and Portugal winning the Euro. And in the world cup, it's pretty easier for the Euro teams to do well just by the virtue of the fact that you have too many Euro countries represented.

Those are facts not opinions, by the way grin

And don't forget that in 2014, countries like Colombia and Costa Rica made the quarter finals. And Argentina made the finals and outplayed Germany but were just unlucky to lose that game.

Sevilla offers Nigerian striker two-year contract extension after impressive performance

Sevilla have offered Nigerian-American female striker, Toni Payne, a two-year contract extension following an impressive first season in Spain.

Toni Payne agreed on Tuesday to sign a contract extension, tying her to Sevilla until 2021.

The Nigerian-American forward had agreed to a one-year deal with the Spanish outfit in June 2018.

The former Concacaf Women’s U-17 winner with the USA joined Sevilla after ending her two-year sojourn with Netherlands Eredivisie women’s champions Ajax in July 2018.

On her debut season in Spain, Payne impressed scoring 10 goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances, including three goals in Spanish Queen’s Cup same term.

Having excelled in her maiden outing for Cristian Toro’s side, the 24-year-old was handed a new two-year contract at Campo Huerto de la Mariana.

“Toni Payne will play three seasons wearing the Sevilla FC jersey,” the club announced in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

“The 24-year-old attacker from Birmingham will extend her stay in Spanish football, which was premiered in the last academic year 2018/2019 by the Seville team.

“Her tip of speed and effectiveness are two qualities highly valued by the technicians.

“In summary, Payne has signed some very interesting numbers in her first year in the capital of Andalusia.

“Over 30 matches, broken down by 27 in the Iberdrola League and three in the Copa de la Reina, contributed seven points.

“These figures are rounded up with two assists. The 2019/2020 project continues to take shape with the continuity of Toni Payne.”

Having ensured their top-flight survival last season, Sevilla will aim to go all the way in the 2019/20120 season, having retained the services of Payne, who is keen to represent Nigerian Super Falcons.

If Argentina defeats Scotland then we're out. But if they draw or if Scotland wins narrowly, then we're as good as qualified.

We will get a clearer (but not yet complete) picture of our chances after the Argentina and Scotland clash today. We must still wait on Chile vs Thailand and Cameroon vs New Zealand to see how our fate pans out.

Thank you, my dear! And don't forget how they were helped by the ref against Wales - a team missing its best player (Aaron Ramsey) in that game. Portugal has a decent team and a great coach, but to say that Cristiano Ronaldo performed a miracle by winning the Euro with Portugal is BS upon BS!

First of all, like a perfect storm, many things worked to help them win that tournament. Secondly, Portugal won in spite of Cristiano Ronaldo and not because of him. That's a fact!
