I have come to realize that only Nigerians (or other Africans) do this but hey, it's never that serious. If you're on an international flight with mostly foreigners this is very less likely to happen.

I usually just tell people politely that they're on my seat and they usually get up. One time I was returning back to Nigeria, a Nigerian had sat on my seat and I had politely mentioned it to him and he stood up.

Now on the connecting flight, the same thing happened and I was just fed up and didn't wanna tell the girl she was on my seat. So, I took another seat hoping that when the owner of this seat comes along I'll get up and probably try to find a seat that was unassigned to anyone.

Next thing this lady I had seen at the departure lounge comes, says hi, mistakenly drops her phone and I pick it for her. She then said, "thanks and for that I'll let you have my seat", I grinned and proceeded to explain that I was on hers because someone else had taken mine. We got talking and she happened to be the nicest person ever. She advised me on everything ranging from school, career path, to relationships and life in general. We spoke all through the duration of that flight which was about an hour 30mins.

This lady ended up giving $100 and I was so grateful. I didn't ask for it but she just gave me. She's been like a second mother to me. Infact she's been a very wonderful person. Let me just end it here.

I don't know what I would have done if I were in the same position because I hate being a negative center of attraction (forget my jaguda online. Ayam a gentle porson ), but I do know that I hate being pushed around. Some people just don't respect themselves.

I will tell you to stand up with a very weird smile. I saw it on a flight I entered too, it played out same way.

Why sit on another's seat?
It is soooo uncourteous. Then they told the man there are plenty vacant seats. I was pissed on his behalf. A young guy o, just because he wanted to sit near one fine girl.

Smh!

When it happened to me I simply told the guy he was on my seat. It was an honest mistake on his part, so he calmly got up and looked for his.

Once experienced that,... i picked that particular seat by the window so as to make an observation on the wings of this particular plane during the flight. I have a handful of knowledge about aircrafts and this was my first time flying in this particular one !

Well, turned out this elderly woman was already sitting on my seat, damn...i politely smiled and told her she was on my seat, she smiled back and pleaded i just sit beside her. I couldn't help it... i obliged!

She slept through out the whole flight and i kept trying not to get annoyed that she was wasting the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view of the movement of the control surfaces on the wings during all different phases of flight... silly me, an old woman that probably thinks the plane flys with magic

There was a time I was flying back to New York City via United Airlines & has to pay $52 for a Window seat & extra legroom...

By the time, I got on the plane a lady had already taken my seat even though our seating arrangement were clearly printed on our flight ticket...

I had to call the attention of one of the flight attendants to move her away from my seat...

I cannot let my $52 to go like that...

The worst part of the whole issue was her trying to claim she is right the whole thing time...

Assuming she explained politely to me that they were traveling together as a group & wanted to seat together maybe I might have changed my mind & let her have my window seat but her attitude left a lot to be desired & as a result I had to act...

I hate aisle seat especially when flying on a long distance flights, window seats are always my favorites...

I usually pay in advance of my flight to guarantee my window seat reservation...

I can't forget that day i saw you ,I was coming back from from Vienna to Lagos with KLM while we are still on Libya air space I saw you from my plane window with some other guys trekking inside the hot desert so you later made it to italy? wow am so happy for you

Not every airline assign seat during booking.southwest airlines don't usually assign seat in advance in most of their flights.its always first come basis which depends on your boarding category.people change seat for whatever reasons and that you got an assigned seat doesn't mean you can't seat eslewhere.i have heard people who got their life changed just by changing seats with other people.we just dont know how fate can play fast games on us.we should learn to circumvent issues in our approach.

True story I hate fight and confrontation but my mum stood her ground if not I would have been at the dead back of the plane brave mum she taught me something that day be silent and accept injustice or fight for your right

It actually happened to me on my way to Lagos from Asaba,I was in a Lebanese mans' seat but i was asked to sit there by the Hostess cos the man came late n my original seat had no space to put my Luggage in the Cabin there.The man came n wanted to start showing skill, i actually did not argue with him since he did not raise his voice.I simply told him to pls talk to the Hostess who even came to us and asked the man to take another seat...Case closed. Talking rudely to anyone whether it is your seat or another person seat is actually bad,lets just try to respect people wherever we meet.Regards!

Nice one Omoluabi... why must someone be claiming right or age on something that doesn't belong to him/her, instead, politely request and you never can tell if the person can give it out.

This behaviour is typical and rampant with Nigerians..

Do they ever wonder why there are ussually seat numbers on flight tickets and above the seats?


And the dumb flight unproffessional attendants should be sacked for suggesting their are other seats, there are other seats for other parssengers!!!! with the seat numbers..

I’m a frequent flier of American Airlines, Delta Airlines & United Airlines...

Priority is usually given to Medallion Members & Members who also posses a Frequent Flier Credit Card during the boarding process

All three Airlines allows you to pick you seat in advance as long as you’re willing to pay for it...

If I pay $52 in advance for Window Seat {32 A} that entitles me to that particular seat during the course of the flight...

Another Passenger cannot claim the right to the seat while a priority customer has already reserved the seat in advance by paying almost $52 for it...

By paying almost $52 the Window Seat {32 A} is printed on my ticket & passengers are always cautioned to make sure they are all at the correct seat as printed in their boarding ticket during a fully boarded flight to a popular destination like New York City...

If their is a confusion as who should be seated at a particular seat, Airline officials usually go by the seat number printed on your ticket inorder to reach a conclusive decision...

If Aisle Seat {32 C} is printed on your ticket you cannot claim the right to Window Seat {32 A}...

However a passenger can decide to switch seats with approval from a fellow passenger that’s entirely up to them...

If it was a Pregnant Women, Elderly Passenger & Disabled Passenger I would have let them have the seat...

But under no other conditions whatsoever would I let someone else to claim the right to my seat...

If it was that important to them the should have paid in advance for it & if they can’t afford it then they should ask nicely for permission from me instead of trying to argue with me & raising their voice unnecessarily...

This “free seating” arrangement seems very popular there...

During flights within the United States & internationally you’re allowed to reserve a particular seat in advance by paying for it...

Whatever seat is printed on your boarding pass is what you’re entitled to...

You can’t claim the right to a particular seat that isn’t printed on your boarding pass...
