The scenario in Iran would be the strike option which is far easier.

Asssymetric war would always be life-intensive. Even in Niger Republic, the USM has lost soldiers against ISIS-affiliated groups. So don't get it twisted. If an all-out war erupted today, Iran does not even have missiles with enough reach and accuracy to target the American homeland. Don't forget the U.S. owns the GPS (Russia owns Glonass) and they can simply switch it off.

P.S.: Iraq under Hussein was not 'ordinary', it had the fourth largest armoured-force then. It was slightly superior compared to Iran. They fought for years, and Iran was the underdog[/s].
