Contrary to you opinion, Iran cannot stand the might of the US. The consideration here is the instability such an action will bring to an already unstable middle east. if the strike had gone ahead, Iran would have drawn America's friends in the region into the conflict by attacking countries like Israel and Saudi. Arms from Iran would have infiltrated the middle east and north Africa. No matter the kind of air defenses Iran thinks she has, they will fall to the fire power of the US airforce and navy. Remember, this will be a different game from the events in Afghanistan and Iraq as this will be a conventional warfare where state targets will be legitimate targets.

The easiest war to fight is conventional warfare, where the enemy is known and their location is known. The US has superior war machines compared to Iran. Israel, Saudi, UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Oman, Ukraine and Poland have been waiting for the US to strike. Do not forget, when push comes to shove, NATO is there too to back the US regardless of how the war started or not.
