Thank God o it's indeed a miracle but let's wait for the investigative report before discrediting an airline 1 Like |

Hmmm...interesting. Rainfall was concentrated in the area.... couldn't the pilot circle until the storm subsided?...or was he low on fuel?... With such rain... there is usually high winds ... was shear a factor?...which usually result in planes skidding off the strip?.. Heavy rains mean low visibility... were there lights on the runway to guide the pilot?... if not ...maybe he misjudged the strip. Is there good drainage for the rains to quickly run off... or was it all flooded? The good thing is... there is enough room for the plane to safely come to a stop. They need to investigate and take corrective actions. 7 Likes |

PatrioticNaija: In their confused state without an iotta of an idea on what to do, they think shutting down the airspace is the wisest thing to do. No regard for the time and schedule of the ordinary Nigerian. |

AgreatMan:And the price of tickets will go up to cover the cost. Look, we can't continue with this stupidity. Aeroplane is a whiteman invention. We imported it and paid in Dollars $$$. As any standard machine, it consists of metal parts. These parts wear out with time and usage. Now, we don't even have any single factory that can manufature even ONE BULB of the aeroplane. Everything, tire, brake, has to be imported to maintain the plane. And if you f**kup and forget to maintain the plane, guess what happen? My grief if this: Why do we insist on using Oyibo Technology that we cannot manufacture the parts ourselves? 3 Likes |

AgreatMan: You're right jare. Even in driving tests, it is taught that the stopping distance of cars doubles on wet roads compared to dry roads, but it increases 10 times in snowy and icy conditions compared to dry roads. Skidding is 5 times more likely on icy and snowy roads than on wet roads. 1 Like |

AgreatMan: In as much as I agree with some of your submissions, when comments like " things like this don't come up there" or comments like "only in Nigeria", it waters down your argument. Accidents happen anywhere in the world where humans are. Watch air crash investigations and see accidents happen even in advance counties, don't down play your own. 4 Likes |

Re: Air Peace Plane Overshoots Runway In Port Harcourt by Dollyak(f): 10:40pm On Jun 22, 2019 |
Reference:You'll normally need at least 3mm of water depths for aquaplaning to occur and that's with a light aircraft which isn't the case in this scenario. Anyways, it's the airport responsibility to ensure the runway is suitable for landing which is the point the previous poster was trying to make by using snow etc. as an example. The sooner you guys stop making excuses for incompetence in Nigeria the better. |
Re: Air Peace Plane Overshoots Runway In Port Harcourt by Dollyak(f): 10:47pm On Jun 22, 2019 |
greatbygrace:I think is point is valid. How often do you see aquaplaning on a major runway in developed countries? It's because they always ensure the friction status of the runway are assessed periodically. There are quite a few ways to mitigate against aquaplaning so this is not a valid excuse. |

It is called Hydroplanning, Aquaplaning, also known as hydroplaning, is a condition in which standing water, slush or snow, causes the moving wheel of an aircraft to lose contact with the load bearing surface on which it is rolling with the result that braking action on the wheel is not effective in reducing the ground speed of the aircraft. This only happen when the water build upto 2mm on the ground, and it only have effect on aircraft during Landing and Takeoff only. |

Dollyak: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Airliner_accidents_and_incidents_involving_runway_overruns These are incidents of runway overrun even in advanced countries. These things happen and human error is the major factor. By the way you are just assuming it is aquaplaning, other factors might have been the cause. The number one rule of investigation is that you do not assume what happened. Accidents happen, not just in Nigeria, everywhere in the world and thats my point. The phrase "only in Nigeria these will happen or it doesn't happen there" is baseless. 5 Likes 1 Share |
