29 June is sacrosanct. Attempts to distract us are frankly laughable.

I will deploy all tools, links & resources in my arsenal to ensure DPR is called to account. We must synergize to ensure this campaign is successful for the benefit of the younger generation.

Tick Tock...

All the best, but it will be said of me that I predicted nothing good will come out of it if you like rent armoury to join your arsenal, it will only amount to noise making

I WRITE FOR THOSE WITH SAGACITY, GREAT DISCERNMENT AND UNDILUTED OBJECTIVITY TO LEARN.

Many of us here, especially those who are unemployed have allowed their emotions to becloud their sense of better reasoning.

The reason why many of you here feel like your world will end if DPR does not employ you is mainly because of the fact that because you scaled through the interview of the 2016 recruitment and while basking in the euphoria of the "prospects of a DPR offer" have allowed other wonderful opportunities to pass you. Now, you feel you have inputed so much energy and time and therefore protest is the way out.

I have never been against those who wish to protest, it is your basic right as long as you do so within the ambits of the law and your protest is premised on "substantial evidence" of lawlessness, impunity and/or injustice. In a country where we operate a justice system based on "law of evidence", the million dollar question however in this scenario is "where is the evidence of injustice?"

Information is power and that is what gives some of us an edge over others. Some of us have refused to give up on this recruitment because we are privy to some information not because we are desperate like some others portray themselves to be.

DPR called for applications, DPR invited a number of applicants for test and few for interview and even fewer as successfuls. This is a normal cycle of a 'transparent' recruitment. Were those called for APLs merit or stakeholders candidates? None of us can genuinely answer that question as none of us have the result sheets of our aptitude test/oral interview. One thing is certain, everyone who was called as a successful had the minimum requirement of either an OND for technicians, BSc/BA/BEng for GTs and MSc/MA or relevant experience for EHs. There is a list signed, accepted and acknowledged with the FCC who have also issued a "certificate of compliance" for that recruitment exercise as having met all statutory requirements.

To be fair to DPR and NNPC, there is even still a bit of transparency compared to sister agencies like CBN, FIRS, NCC, NPA and NIMASA to mention a few. At least, they give we common citizens hope to even participate in the recruitment process at all and that is why we can even be here today to debate protest or no protest. When last did CBN or NCC announce an open recruitment? Does anyone here know that CBN, NARSDA and FIRS are currently recruiting with APLs as recent as last week? Needless to mention other 'juicy' and 'less juicy' agencies like NPC, NOSDRA, NAGGW, NBMA, NIPOST, NCC, NIRSAL, FCC etc that conducted secret recruitments between last year till this very moment. DPR's flaw is that they have not closed our portals and few persons come here to give us hope about the recruitment but is that enough to raise a red flag?

The so-called leaked list on twitter got how many retweets again and trended for how many days exactly? That's because no one takes an anonymous handle seriously and I'm very sure all of you twitter activists will dare not use your real twitter handles. LOL.

Let me refresh your memories.......Let's look at well celebrated cases of recruitment scandals and how they ended up;

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it opted for a secret process of hiring new staff in the past two years because the bank was doing “targeted recruitment”.

The apex bank is at the centre of a recruitment scandal exposed by two newspapers.

A news report published Wednesday by Daily Trust, said the CBN secretly recruited 909 staff between June 2014 and February 2015, in violation of due process and federal character principles.

https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/illegal-recruitment-how-1839-privileged-elites-were-hired-by-cbn-firs-and-nps-group/w1gnt5y

According to the group, 909 Nigerians were secretly recruited by CBN, while FIRS and NPS hired 400 and 530 "privileged elites" respectively.

The Citizens of Impact on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 took to the streets of Abuja to protest what they referred to as"targeted recruitment of some family members of highly placed Nigerians" into various government agencies.

The group alleged that 909 Nigerians were secretly recruited into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), 400 "privileged elites" into the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and 530 people at the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS).

Convener of the group, Daniel Seun Olatunde said the recruitment was done "under the table" as there was no public advertisement of the positions.

Almost all federal ministries, departments and agencies have been carrying out illegal mass recruitments, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered on Saturday.

Many government parastatals including the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Federal Ministry of Finance, 183 out of 185 MDAs had recruited 13,780 staff in recent years.

Bold moves by civil society groups to end the menace but have that stopped CBN? Why did the House of Reps suddenly stop probing NCC's illegal recruitment?

Can we call an advertised recruitment, that saw an aptitude test and oral interview hold in several states of the federation even in the presence of FCC representatives an illegal recruitment?

A junior friend who just got his appointment letter from NASRDA last week only just completed his NYSC late last year but he never rested for a day. Distributing CVs from one place to another, networking and building contacts as much as he could. Some of us have changed jobs more than 3 times since 2016 when DPR announced this recruitment exercise.

I hope through our actions, we don't push DPR into adopting the 'secret recruitment method' which is inherently less cumbersome, less expensive and comes with lesser public scrutiny and lesser controversies. Many of us who applied as GT in 2016, if you are wise enough to have equipped yourself with a higher degree or relevant experience during this period may succesfully apply as and become EHs in the next recruitment which may be next year (from what I have heard).

In summary, there are tons of other opportunities out there. Don't kill yourselves cos of DPR. Even as we wait endlessly, we can still be productive and useful to ourselves. Protest if you must, but remember, if your voice will be heard, dont hide behind anonymous handles and provide substantial evidence of illegality in the recruitment process. Only then, will you be justified. Else, you will make a mockery of yourselves for allowing your lives to be stagnant and absolutely dependent on a 3-year recruitment exercise.

Good luck to us all.

PS: I also wish for a country where justice, fairness and equity reigns supreme. The lawmakers are there for a reason. The FCC is there for a reason. But we choose our leaders and we deserve what we get from those we chose. When we learn to put sentiments aside during electioneering process, maybe just maybe we might get the leaders we truly deserve.

Your response portrays you as "mentally lazy" but I am not here to judge you. I stated the category of people who my 'long write-up' was meant for and you clearly do not fall under that category, so I'll pass.

Go ahead with your protests please. I believe it will begin on 29th? If by July 10th, your e-protest trends with at least 1000 retweets, I'll fund your account with N30,000. That's N3 for each retweet. grin

You can also choose to sue DPR to court, hire Chief Ozekhome SAN as your legal representative and when asked for evidence of a flawed recruitment, quote Marvel65, Dijah, Xtruzz and Dozylala90's post(s) together with the incomplete list that was circulated earlier. Walahi, you will win.

I'm speaking COMMONsense, you are replying NONsense.

Kuch1:

Marvel, if you work with DPR already, you are highly connected and you go out of your way to give information regarding this recruitment. Most of what you say has turned out to be true especially people getting their APL based on merit. Also, the sacrifice Director had to make to cede some slots to stakeholders ( just had to be done ) A MUST !!!. We appreciate your effort and hope everything comes to a logical conclusion.
This is your post on July 18th 2018. You openly admitted people were called on merit. Partly also because your reference number ABJ/11**** was on the so-called leaked list. A year later, you are not called and the recruitment suddenly nose-dived from "mainly merit" in your opinion to "flawed" still in your opinion. Oh I forgot, it's about selfish interest. Since you didn't get called, everyone else who did was through the "back door". Typical pull-him-down-syndrome. Better go find work do.

Well-written brother. Thanks for the lecture and advice. The requirement for this DPR job is a 2.2 (second class lower division) in all fields for GT candidates and MSc/MBA for EH candidates. Remember once you have this requirement plus your age being within the stipulated limits for GT and EH respectively, you are qualified and as such shortlisted. So bear it in mind that those who were employed last year were all qualified for the job and the remaining who will come on board very very soon are also qualified.

It is rather good that we tell ourselves the truth, we all can not be employed in DPR now. Like Naijainstinct stated, new DPR recruitment is coming up soon, as we also hope to be favoured by God in the long awaited 2nd batch, let us strategies for better days and opportunities. Okay, what will some of you guys say about FIRS, CBN etc in their recruitments. FIRS I know advertised and test was not conducted but people have been offered APL in more than 5 batches and still ongoing. But DPR gave us the sense of belonging by inviting us both for aptitude test and interview stages. My dear as a Christian, go and read Exodus 33 vs 19; and Romans 9 vs 15-16. These two verses elucidated God's grace and mercy that He gives to mankinds bases on His discretion, not on your efforts or inputs. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.

Am not against your protest but don't push DPR and others that are still trying to be fair in their recruitments to learn and start adopting FIRS, CBN etc methods of secret recruitment without advertisements. Have people protested for FIRS APLs? I believe some of you guys here applied for FIRS job and not test/interview was conducted. Are u claiming you guys are not aware that FIRS distributed APLs up-to 5 batches and still ongoing? Have you organised a protest for it?

Please, please and please don't push DPR and few others to adopt the secret recruitment methods. Meanwhile what evidence do you have? Like Naijainstinct asked, do you have ur interview results? REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL THAT WHERE INTERVIEWED ARE TO BE OFFERED AN APL. Few number of interviewed candidates are expected to be selected. Please I advice we trend with caution and act intelligently as we claim we are.

I know some of you will call me a mole that is here to discourage the protest, if you do, no wahala am fine with it. But I assure you we will all live to see how far your protest will go. Protest is good but it should be backed with clear or undisputed evidence(s). The truth be told, I studied in Germany and have equally visited more than 15 countries. I have a friend in the USA that was qualified for a job, but he never got any, not until he met one man who gave him a recommendation. So recommendation is everywhere. My dear let us pray for God's favour and grace. Some of us that are shouting SH candidates, let me ask you guys a sincere question. If you have known a strong politician, wouldn't you have gone to him/her for recommendation? Answer this question sincerely to yourself and then think.

My dear, let's be prayerful and positive. Reach out to people and build your contacts. Getting in touch to politicians and stakeholders is a grace and mercy from God. So even when you do not believe that some candidates got the APLs on merit (I believed and I know some), hope you know that it was only 400 names that were selected. The strong politicians and stakeholders in this country are more than 1000. So some were given as some were not given. My dear ones, you see, even when you have a strong politician /stakeholders, it is still God's mercy and grace that we need in life.

Once again, for those that are still hopeful, best wishes.

naijainstinct:

LOL.

Let me refresh your memories.......Let's look at well celebrated cases of recruitment scandals and how they ended up;

http://saharareporters.com/2016/03/15/nigeria’s-central-bank-illegally-hired-sons-daughters-and-relatives-former-vp-atiku-igp

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/200268-caught-employment-scam-cbn-explains-secret-recruitment.html?amp_markup=1

Convener of the group, Daniel Seun Olatunde said the recruitment was done "under the table" as there was no public advertisement of the positions.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/183-federal-ministries-agencies-in-massive-illegal-recruitment/amp/

Almost all federal ministries, departments and agencies have been carrying out illegal mass recruitments, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered on Saturday.

Many government parastatals including the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Federal Ministry of Finance, 183 out of 185 MDAs had recruited 13,780 staff in recent years.

https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/house-reps-drop-motion-alleged-ncc-illegal-recruitment-31312/amp

Re: Department Of Petroleum Resources - 2016 Graduate Trainee &experienced Hire Job by Ngwoike: 6:29am On Jun 28, 2019
A nice and well-written piece by Naijainstinct. Thanks Naijainstinct for the lecture and advice.

REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL THAT WERE INTERVIEWED ARE TO BE OFFERED AN APL.

Nigeria can never get better, not in this lifetime. It's now time to resort to the popular "e go better" anthem.
Personally, I'm worn out at this point and it's not even about dpr, but from the plethora of Nigeria's dysfunctions.

Little wonder why Nigerians would risk their lives through the desert in a bid to get to Europe, that's just testimony to how hopeless they must have felt to embark on a suicide mission.

Have a good life everyone, but let me play spoiler by telling us that life isn't fair on a normal day and it deals you a bad hand when you are a Nigerian in the bottom half of the class pyramid. The millions of people who are unemployed will most likely not have a good life, some temporarily, some all through their life's duration. Let's not even talk about IDPs, victims of kidnap and banditry and the standards of living of a majority of the population.

Lastly, to those preaching "get a connection" let me throw your dumb comments on your face by asking this "NBS stats show about 10million+ people unemployed and we have say roughly about 10000 people in the elite, political class etc. So what's going to be the ratio if all of the unemployed have to rely on connections for a decent job? "

I spent the the first year from test to contacting the 1st batch being a spectator, spent another year posting on the thread till now. But I'm reverting to being a spectator. Goodluck guys
E go be,
Que Sera Sera

I appeal to you all to halt this protest for now because of 2019 budget that will be effective from July 'next month', it might be the reason why DPR has not placed calls on lucky applicants. Please let's give them some time rather than embarking on protest that will jeopardize their reputations.

These people are not saints. They will even be praying for the Federal government to cancel this recruitment for their own remaining candidates to get in. Please let's play that game wisely... Give them some time

Wait a minute you still think activism in Nigeria is based on social justice? grin grin grin grin

My friend one of the ways to get quickly settled in naija is activism it is about personal interest didnt you see how the deji adeyanju and charlie boy "Our mumu don do" played out?

What even make you think that some of these folks do not have a slot in this particular recruitment or anyother for that matter

Because you guys less than a 20 people are not called out 5000 applicants it means recruitment was not fair?

grin grin grin grin grin

Nigerians are not as mumu as buying into every trash! not at all

For anyone who understands how government works this exactly why the resumption date is late july...

Moreover even those who were called by dpr last year did not resume until almost after 3 months or more...

rather look for facts understand proceedings people ride on just emotions and absolutely nothing more

Try to always have a mind of your own, your focus, and your opinion first. Don't make yourself a swing that can be tossed from one end to another. I wonder what your position would be next if another COMMONsense epistle is thrown at you.

Hope you would not call down fire on yourself or be ashamed of yourself by now?

Mailbab:
Fire from above will definitely come down on those who are against our protest. We should all be ashamed of ourselves by now
when 2016 recruitment is heading to 2020 with even the aim of conducting another recruitment. We called DPR on air (DPR half hour) radio Nigeria program, we were told to constantly check our portal for update. Up til now nothing show up.

Am in full support for the protest. All those coming up with contrary suggestions is to their interest.
We have the right to demand for explanation concerning this recruitment. This is what we should have done long before now.
We can't be left in the dark.
Recruitment since 2016, no one can tell the state of the recruitment whether ended or still ongoing. This is wickedness.
Stakeholders list should have been the one holding til now not merit please as some clim to be.
Those who deserve this job are busy cracking their brains predicting the set date for the release of APL, whereas those who don't deserve the job have long collected theirs.
Enough of all the folly going on in this platform please
