Why should government sponsor it? na government dey sponsor all the rubbish on tvs so far? you think government is in the business of sponsoring shows? Nigerians and blame blame.

holuwajobar:
Small proportion of Nigerians will be interested in such. The government isn't showing any seriousness to education. Gone are the days when government sponsor brilliant students to abroad, but now, even those who sponsor students to abroad will not keep up to their promises, hence, leaving them stranded in foreign land.

Gone are the days of MILO mathematics quiz, Who want to be a millionaire, zain african challenge and so on.

Can we get those days back?

Sighs. Oh my Country

The Betting and Sex videos guy(s) had quoted that they had posted different educational threads but Mods refused to push them to front page and people refused to visit education threads hence the Betting and sex videos, now they are getting the attention they want.
Dr Shake Breasts too said she used write poems but nobody took note of her, when she started shaking breasts, she got the attention she craves for. Now, people pay attention to the old poems because she shakes breasts.
Most people always read Tonto and Regina's stories but will ask people to summarize informative threads.
So, RUBBISH SELLS!

Most times we put on our TVs or browse the internet, we often come across auditioning for one reality show or the other; ranging from nationwide shows or other competitions that are campus-based not to talk of the incessant beauty pageantry competitions that are being held, one cannot underestimate the fact that the organisers and sponsors of these events have a lot to give out but then we see that there are very few competitions that are geared towards testing the intellectual capacity of people.

Although, organisers have the freedom to promote what they want to and some people do not see the good in organising one that tests intellect, there is need to encourage those who are good in that aspect. Not everyone can be a beauty queen or a good vocalist or dancer (as these three are the major in Nigeria).

I remember when I was growing up, when the Zain African Challenge was still aired, likewise the MTN Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, I was always looking forward to seeing each episode and even aspiring to be a contestant on those shows but we cannot find such anymore. I so much commend Cowbell Nigeria for the yearly Cowbellpedia and Interswitch for the science-based competition they just concluded.

There is need for sponsors and organisers of these kind of events; events that educate and encourage people, even for students of tertiary institutions and other individuals likewise.

Look at the thread itself, see the numbers of views!

So pathetic.I was telling someone on WhatsApp the other day that I prefer watching the nations cup that waste my fuel watching BBN...God forbid.

The program irritates me,I seem not to get what exactly they are all doing there#shame!

Perhaps,if a competition for the most innovative Nigerian with a prize of 40 million and consolation prize of 10 million for the rest contestant,i bet you BBN would go into oblivion. And Nigerians would be trying their best to compete and there would be millions of viewers and sponsor even from European countries. The competition would be a subject of discussion for every student.

If the FG is not regulating what can be shown to the general public then we are wasting time.... promoters will and are corrupting the minds of the youth and in time...the society will have lower morals.... lower educational standing... more vice..more corruption. The state of NYSC and our tertiary institutions is a reflection of how much attention is paid to education period. Neglect of educational programmes and vision do not have immediate effects... but as time moves on we are seeing how each generation is dumber that the one before. After all...who education epp?...is the general cry of the ignirant.

Exactly. Multichoice is the official sponsor of Big Brother Naija. They have discovery channels , Nat Geo Wild, BBC education, Minds Channel (Channel 319 on DSTV just before MTV Base channel) where maths, physics , arts and engineering are taught by foreign experts from morning till night.

Multichoice sponsors Eutesalat star awards twice every year. The student with the best essay wins a good price and a visa to visit any country that would be launching a satellite to space (countries like China, France, USA, Canada etc). The winner gets an opportunity to interact with the best of engineers in the planet and at the end of the year a dinner is held to appreciate the top 20 who participated. Dignitaries across the globe donate to support and give speeches to motivate. Multichoice does not even capitalize this very opportunity.

Now, multichoice actually advertises the Eutesalat Stars award more than Big Brother Naija which is totally free to participate in and no one wants to write an essay in the comfort of his room or library with a snack and peace of mind or is interested but tens of thousands cause a stampede at Big Brother Naija selection venue and even pay for forms.

A population of youth that attack the government and speak bad of the EFCC when they clamp down on internet fraud, a population that protests when a corrupt official is prosecuted for embezzlement, a country with Southern Streets littered with churches and most of these churches teach you that blood transfusion is evil, some teach that medical services and use of drugs are evil, others teach that the television and phones are from the Marine kingdom- where is the science? So wards become medical doctors to be better than their mates, with no effort to make any invention or discovery, and tell patients to return to the church when the illness is neither a malarial illness nor one that requires a minor surgery.

A country with Northern citizens who reject western education and feel proud of themselves when they are treated like nobodies in the East of the globe where their doctrines spring from.

It is not the government, it has never been the government. People make the government, they come from communities and families make communities.

By the way I'm a casual fan of Big Brother Naija . Just glimpse through 10 minutes a week or less. Even the biggest tech entrepreneurs in America followed and supported the Game of Thrones series while it was on.

That's one of the primary reasons this country will remain undeveloped. In a country where youths and affluent citizens prioritize and sponsor frivolities like BBnaija over science competitions, how would creativity be harnessed in students for future development? And let no one quote me on how that's done in civilized countries these days as well. Those countries can afford to focus on entertainment now because some of their compatriots (either Living or dead) have laid down a strong foundation for them to fall back on. Where are our Einsteins in Nigeria? Where are our Max Plank and Isaac Newton? Where are our Tesla and Edison?
If someone critically analyze the kind of precarious situation we've found ourselves in this nation and thereafter considers the indifferent attitude of youths. It wouldn't take a genius to figure out that this country is heading for doom and gloom
they have all gone to said places in the civilized environment where they are allowed to grow

Good observation. that tell why Nigeria failed in the major regional examination ( wassce) Ghana which Nigeria always consider an inferior country makes wave continuously...

currently, there is a competition going on in the country bigger than AFCON . national maths and science competition among secondary school.

Your assertion is wrong. Calling someone a fool because you hate something doesn't make you wise. Life has given man the opportunity to choose from various alternatives. Everybody can't be good or bad.Everyone can't be educated as some prefer wealth and riches over education. Everyone can't act, think or reason alike. There must be an exception to everything that plays in life. Big brother naija is rated 18 and wasn't forced on the throat of Nigerians, many opted for it because they love. This year's edition has many Nigerians from influential background or those who aren't doing bad. Ironically it is same poor Nigerians that are struggling that would still vote the same housemates ( although not all). The choice is left for many Nigerians to decide not you deciding for them by calling them fools.

PositiveNaija offers reliable online implementation of initiatives, which includes: essay or other written competitions; video contests/events; quizzes; etc.

The aim of the PositiveNaija educational initiatives is to promote: the respect, self-worth, creativity, competitiveness and critical-thinking of Nigerians; to encourage Nigerian patriotism, nation building and serve as a platform for impactful scholarship and excellence.

It is the goal of our competitions to be the most rewarding in Nigeria – not just financially but in the process hinged on transparency and accountability for all related stakeholders.
