A retired major, Yahaya Shiko, who served as the collation agent for the Peoples Democratic Party in the Kaduna South Local Government of Kaduna State during the February 23, 2019 presidential election, said on Thursday that the results of the poll were doctored in his presence in favour of the All Progressives Congress. Testifying before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, at the instance of the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the 20th petitioners’ witness, Shiko said the poll in his area was marred by over-voting and allocation of figures to political parties that participated in the election. The petitioners are, by their petition filed before the Justice Mohammed Garba-led tribunal of five judges, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC at the poll. He said, “My statement was based on the reports I received from the polling unit agents and what I saw on the result sheets which were forwarded to the Local Government collation centre. “There were cases of overvoting, and allocation of figures. “These were what were carried to the Local Government collation centre. “In my presence, the results were doctored.” Earlier responding to questions put to him by the counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission, Yunus Usman (SAN), the witness said, he protested the doctoring of the results by refusing to sign the result sheets. He said, “Figures were wrongly credited to the APC. “At the collation centre, I made complaints when the results were announced and I protested by refusing to append my signature to the result sheets.” Asked, he said he did not know his complaints were criminal in nature. "Atiku assembled 442 witnesses. So he said. They are supposed to help him recover his stolen mandate He has 10 days to parade them. He has spent 4 days. He has called only 19. Out of the 19 is one who doesn't know the month when the presidential elections held. Out of the 19 is another who disputed the server results and claimed Atiku won Katsina. Out of the 19 is a youth corper who said he was given a secret code for the server which he is not even allowed to reveal in court. They Atikulated the more and drove conversations online. But they had a weak ground game which is more important in a country like Nigeria. Majority of registered reliable voters, are not online and on Social Media platforms. But deep down in their hearts, they knew they had a difficult uphill climb to win. They hoped for a miracle on election night; but it didn’t happen. Expectedly, they were disappointed, but more disappointed are their supporters that they deliberately misled into believing that Atiku was going to win. They quickly put aside their disappointment and came up with a plan to keep their voters hopeful- we won the election from the results we got from INEC Server. Hope as is we know, is the fuel of politics. Money is the oxygen. Atiku has the oxygen, but was lacking in hope. The Server story was needed to provide hope to his supporters and keep them in his column. Atiku knows how flimsy the support of an average Nigerian is. He knows that without a story to keep his supporters hopeful, they will desert him immediately. He is an experience political operative who has switched party so many times. He feared being left alone to fight to retrieve” his mandate”, and so the Server theory was invented to keep the base of supporters hopeful and expectant. Hope is two sided. While Atiku was dishing out hope to his supporters, some very smart supporters also observed that Atiku himself also needed Hope. They observed he was mourning. And so they came up with their own Hope Elixir for him: ATIKU IS COMING. In other words, Atiku is going to win. Atiku was sold on it and it went viral. Some people have corrupted it by saying: Atiku is Cumming. For me, Atiku is coming-to Nigeria from Dubai after his holiday. Whatever the outcome of his push at the Election Tribunal where he is demanding to be declared the winner of the election maybe, Atiku, has succeeded in convincing his supporters that he won the election based on the results obtained from a non-existing Server. They believed that Atiku won the election fair and square, and that he was cheated out of his victory. That is why they are already talking about adopting him as their candidate for the 2023 election as compensation. Atiku lost the election but he is winning the support of his supporters and keeping them by serving them the Server story. They are not likely to care about the drama at the Election Tribunal.
