Home schooling is better and develops the child faster. Boarding school has a lot of risk.

Those that were not properly groomed before sending to boarding school.

If your ward is like that, sending him to boarding will make him worse. #knowyourchild

I was a boarder for 5 years secondary school. Absolutely not worth it. Would I send my child to a boarding school? NO!!
Send them at your own risk.... Sending them off to higher institution is another story but boarding house dont bother

The advantages outweighs the disadvantages.
One of the major disadvantage is the Finance which is usually on the high side.
secondly unless you did not train your child/ward to a level where you can boast/attest to his/her character in all ramifications, then you have it all to worry. If not that's one of the best places for your children especially the Unity/military owned boarding schools where they are exposed to real life scenarios.

I had classmates who started their primary school in boarding schools though private.

I went to a boarding school and to be honest it really helped me in various ways. Attending a unity school gave me a higher tolerance level. I can live and accommodate at anybody from different tribe or religion. It made me free minded. I saw and understand life and lived independently, I don't rely on others until it is absolutely necessary. Disadvantage hmmm. First crush was a girl, first kiss too, well with time I outgrew all those things. What is $ex without the real apparatus.

Its partially true. I'm a product of boarding school. We tend to become too independent and stubborn. We get disconnected from our parents and tend to have that mentality we can stand on our own. So when we are told what to do, we disagree cos we want more freedom we have been exposed to in boarding school.
We see ourselves as survivors.

EG;
From SS1-SS3, nobody could force me to sleep at anytime. So getting home and my parents telling me to go to bed at 10pm brought fight in the house.
Parents wanna choose my clothes, my friends, force me to church, music etc but dont know what I did in the hostel. So that friction was constant.

But when i wanted to start life, my independence from boarding school helped me survived without having to rely on my parents.
I didnt take a cent from them. It even helped me in university earlier.

It could be of both advantages and disadvantages. Everything in life has advantages and disadvantages.

The question should is are you financially inclined to send your ward to a good boarding school. Forget those pple saying cultism, stubbornness etc. There re good boarding school around where you send ur ward to and would send them over and over again. Na money kill am. Not those local govt boarding school.

I did boarding from my jss1 to ss3 and I'll give my honest verdict on this.

it's true most students are easily influenced by their colleagues as they get to meet the good, the bad and the ugly there.

While it's benefits are increasingly high it also has its disadvantage.

it's true most students learn bad things there, whether they practice it or not depends on the individual but truth is, they must learn and know those bad things.
they learn how to take tough decisions there and also becomes less fearful as they keep facing all manner of treats on a daily basis.

they learn how to Carter for themselves and also learn how to stay hungry.

the boarding school exposes students into all manner of positive and negative attitude and I'll suggest unless a child is having a good sense of humor he/she shouldn't start from jss1 but if at jss3 the child is not reasonable enough, he should be forced into boarding school.

also parents should checkmate their kids during holidays by checking their notes and uniform if they are intact and if they've not stolen or taken others people property..

conclusion : boarding school from jss1 is risky but from ss1 it's very much needed..
also know when to change your kid school as parents..

The only disadvantage i know of is if the school is a all girls school and vice versa... It could lead to being homosexuals in the near future... U can't tell what these kids practice without the watchful eyes of their guardians

I meet up with my old schoolmates every month. Most were borders, I wasn't. I chose to go to the school because I wanted to be a border and get away from home but my parent's weren't having it because they had my siblings' fees to pay too. I swear if I had the knowledge I now have I might have sold one of them to pay the boarding fees! My mates have this camaraderie which I'd envy if not for their complete regard and acceptance of me.

I vote boarding, in a good school. Your children will learn to stand on their own feet and will build life long relationships that will benefit them and you.

I think federal govt owned boarding school are the best in nigeria.
you get a taste of all caliber of people..
private exposes one to rich kids and desperate, pride becomes a thing for that kid but a federal govt owned boarding school has both the rich, the poor, the middle class all in that school.
living with all this kind of people is important for a child as he/she learns to associate and utilize the importance of every kind of individuals.

Boarding school exposes you to the outside world

It encourages neatness and competition

Laziness can never be part of you

It gives you a reading Culture
even if you enter University it would help you a lot

Most people who attend Boarding school are Wise and Smart

As for me? None of my children will go to a boarding school. They'll grow in my house and under my watch and care.
