This brand name thing is actually an arbitrary concept if you dig deeper.
Foxconn is a multinational electronics contract manufacturing company. Foxconn clients include Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi etc
To put this into perspective some iPhones, Samsung and Xiaomi phones are literally made or assembled by the same people grin grin grin. Infact there was a time Foxconn was making/assembling both the PlayStation and Xbox. I dunno if they still do
Blew my mind when I found out years ago.
Yes I understand brand names can be important and can be associated with great products and helps in choosing a product but it isn't really that deep when you look at it tbh.
I feel we should compare specs than brands when talking about tech or comparing phones.
Some people were arguing on twitter on which is the better brand between beats audio and Airpods, it was really funny because beats is a subsidiary of Apple, both are literally Apple products grin.
So be it Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi, just buy the brand you want and enjoy. Sometimes a bigger brand doesn't mean a better product and a smaller brand doesn't mean a bad product. And sometimes value and quality can be an illusion, if Mr A buys a stone with a brand name for 100k and Mr B buys same stone without a brand name for 50k, Mr A will always feel his stone is better and superior. Not a perfect analogy but you get my point. Cost of an item creates the subjective, highly-personal notion of quality. I feel quality of a phone should be what It can do and what is inside it.
So if you want a Huawei P30 go for it, if its the Samsung S10 makes you feel good buy it, if Xiaomi Mi 9 is what you love get it and flex your phone.
Just pick the product that suits your pocket, day to day needs and can handle the load of work you throw at it.
My opinions above might have flaws, I might not be right 100%, but I hope you get my point and perspective about brand names. It is really not a big deal

It's like people comparing Tecno Vs Infinix Vs Itel (Transsion) or Fortnite Vs PUBG (Epic games using Unity engine). I understand.

You're saying live and let live. Our antagonists are not doing live and let live. They have made their choice and are now coming to impress it on others that their choices are right thereby implying those of others are wrong.

It's not wrong for them to compare. The point is, there are established standards for comparison rather than chestbeating or insults. Let's collate specs here and then the facts should speak for themselves.

It is a name for a phone. Since you are not ok with the performance of the iPhone X in terms of camera I presume, what you need is Google Pixel. If money is not an issue, get the Google Pixel 3 XL or wait a bit for the Pixel 4XL.

I think i agree with the person above on some issues. But Nevertheless you cant blame people who wanting value for their money. This thing Called Brand Name is a big thing for most people. People who spend thousands on Designers are not ignorant of the fact that Stronger ,Possibly finer and relatively cheaper dresses are out there made by people who are not known. Thats it, thats why people go extra miles to buy 3rd hand iphones for humdreds of thousands when they can get newer technology for less.If im holding a flagship Device of a popular brand like sammy. People tend to give respect , take it or leave it. Btw Xiaomi is still new in the market. It hasn't pioneered any new design in the market . Like iphone started the notch, Sammy the V display,

Apart from the Praises Which i see only on Nairaland. If truly the phone gives more value for less money. Then We thank God that someone has come to make trassion devices sit up.

Finally lots of hurdles to cross, profit and losses, we all saw what became of gionee.

I must commend owners of xiaomi devices . If not that you patronized Xiaomi we probably wont have known how good or bad the product is.

Just that most people like to stay on the safe side. It can be devastating losing ones money on a new product.

Give it time let Xiaomi show transsion devices wassup. But trying to prove that Xiaomi is better than brands with name is a comparison that is....

Btw i would love to have a feel of that RN7 it must be a Really great Device.

Lol yes bro.
See that HP thing ehn, had an experience recently , my friend had a choice between an Alienware and a HP. The Alienware in this case was much better with mad specs, told him to pick the Alienware, showed him specs and all but he was really adamant about choosing the HP "because HP brand name is popular in Nigeria" undecided I was really shocked because the Alienware had more ram and GPU power than the HP he wanted.
It was untill he found out Dell owned the Alienware brand before he budged and picked the Alienware. It is that bad for some people.

Volkswagen owns Buggatti the fastest hypercar in the world. And i think they once owned Rolls Royce. The most luxurious car in the world. It doesnt matter if a single parent company owns several other subsidiaries. It doesnt justify that they will be of the same quality. Not too long ago Volkswagen recalled alot of cars for emission issues. Btw who said Samsung a South Korean company is related to Xiaomi a chinese company.

Yes I understand your point about brand names tho, Yes Samsung has a big brand name but should we as techies who knows what's up about specs, hold brand names as the main yardstick for choosing a phone.??
You say Xiaomi is new, bro the first Xiaomi phone was in 2011, just three years after android came into the scene, Def not new. You said no innovation from Xiaomi, you clearly limit your information about Xiaomi to this forum. The latest one I know is the under screen camera which they're pioneering alongside Oppo. This new slim 18:9 screen resolution we all use now was largely pushed by Xiaomi. Gsmareana wrote something about that one time, and so on like that.
Lol Xiaomi isn't trying to show Transsion anything, I think you don't actually comprehend who Xiaomi is outside of Nairaland here, your mention of Gionee shows it. Xiaomi has done that and so much more. Xiaomi is the 4th biggest mobile company in the world, not Africa or Asia, the world! , that is big international league fam. Check their Wikipedia page for more information and the links under or just read about them. As a brand they've really grown and they're growing rapidly.
Transsion as a brand has really fine phones too and I've used them in the past and will use them again if only they had good chips, I'm not even shitting on them, the Phantom would have been perfect but look at the choice of a Mediatek P35 chip undecided Can't blame for buying phones with better chips you know.
But like I said functionally over brandname is what I think we as techies should look out for.

No one said Samsung is related to Xiaomi anywhere.
And of course not all products under a parent company are of the same quality obviously. Never said that too
I'm not against people buying big brand names too, All I'm saying is brand names shouldn't be a main yardstick when it comes to tech choices, consider specs and other things too at least. I'm talking about people who put three phones of similar processing power, camera capabilities and think one is better because of the brand name on it.

By the way you know Volkswagen is recalling some of its bugati Chiron models because of faulty welds in the front seat recliner brackets.

Okay, thanks for the response. I will save money up for one of the quality earphones grin that are available for Xiaomi and I hope they are durable and last longer unlike these ones we buy for N500.

Its ur earpiece compatibility not the google assistant. Some of these fake earpieces do that alot. At times self, the volume will be moving up and down on the screen without touching the volume bottom. If you disable assistant, trust me ,it will comes up with another wahala. It can even be auto dialing too. Many Samsungs and lg phones, to the best of my knowledge do the same with many fake earpieces we use, not particular to xiaomi products.[/quote]

If they were terrible, Samsung wouldn't have lost their biggest market which is India to them.
