These are some of the disadvantages of boarding schools
1.The child spends much of his or her time without the contact of anyone who really loves him or her. The school is paid to look after your child, not love them.
2.Bullying: Many children often experience bullying while staying at a boarding school, while older students or teachers can harass and abuse younger students in different ways because children suffering from such harassment This can also affect the psychological stability of the child.
3. Cultism: Depending on the boarding school

What about the advantages?

There is nothing good about boarding schools! Training up a child should be the active responsibilities of both the parents and the teachers, sending a child to boarding school however is an act of leaving it all to the teachers. The teachers have their other responsibilities also and cannot leave that for your child especially at this age when teachers are poorly paid

You need to train your child first before sending them to a boarding house.

Also, let them be mature (at least 11years old) before sending them there.

It should also be a good school. Missionary schools with only strictly boarding facilities are okay.

Then don't abandon the child. Visit regularly, talk to them, know their friends and teachers. Have responsible people watch over your child and give you feedback whenever you come visiting.

I attended a boarding school and it has really helped me in virtually all spheres of life.

Is it advisable to send my wards to boarding schools?
I have observed almost all boarding school Graduate are stubborn..

Your opinions please!
I am seeing a lot of very stereotyped comments. Send your child to a good private boarding school and have all the peace of mind you want. I attended a private boarding school for 6 years and i can proudly tell you that i dont have any regrets. As for being stubborn, don't confuse your child's plight for independence as being stubborn. Yes, boarding school teaches kids independence and i get that as a virtue and not a vice. If you have money a private boarding school is best. If you need references i can't recommend the best that i know.

Boarders are more social? I don't agree with you. I think day students are more exposed to everyday life so they tend to be more SOCIAL in my opinion.
Check the comments of the boaders and day school students above, you will observe that it is the social life the day school students are missing and it is the social life the boaders brag of.

I don't agree that they are stubborn. The foundation work start with the parents. That is bringing them up, nurturing them in an atmosphere of discipline and love. Tough! Yes discipline and love. With the parents setting good examples and being good role models for them.

You may have done excellently well on the above and it's time for them to go to secondary School. Here the parents must take their time to choose and decide the kind and type of school for their children. If you don't choose a school that build up on your foundation, the child could turn bad.

It's not necessarily whether you're paying millions as school fees. There are moderately priced schools that still give quality and quantitave education , that school churn out decent and well bred students at the end of 6 years in secondary School.

In the 80s when I was in boarding school (spent 6 years from Form 1 to Form 6), parents had little to fear - just how deviant generally could a child really become in those days when the whole of society had their eye upon you watchfully? Smoking and drinking - many of us learnt that yes, but what are those? Those were truly the days when it took a "village" to raise a child.

In 2019, the society is almost dead and your children can be ruined overnight. None of my children are going to boarding school - they will grow up under my watchful eye; hopefully one can detect early signs of things going wrong if they are going to, and when I say things going wrong one doesn't mean exploration and discovery of things society frowns upon - if they have their first cigs and all that, that's fine with me - it's knowing when to draw the line with experimentation - that is where the trouble lies.

Secondly, I seriously doubt that today's boarding schools - the ones we'd like to send our children to - help to keep children on the right path. In many of these schools, the children's rooms and laundry are taken care of for them, there's an abundance of entertainment facilities, etc. While I'm not a Luddite, I can't send my children anywhere where their lives will be less disciplined and more sybaritic than they would be at home.

The only disadvantage i know of is if the school is a all girls school and vice versa... It could lead to being homosexuals in the near future... U can't tell what these kids practice without the watchful eyes of their guardians

Even if the advantage full book none of my child will go to a boarding school. You go to school, come back and sit your ass down in the house.
My children must be raised like proper children

Boarding school

your children are at risk of being homosexual,

It's product are easily influenced by school mate.

In mathematics and physics boarders from my experience usually learn thoes subject during the holidays from home,
while the day students rest during the holidays, so what is the need of being a boarder if it is just to reduce parents stress it is not worth it. In today's world.
Many of our kids learn mathematics and science from home not school.

And one great advantage of been boarders is that they are more social than the day school children.

See talk. So all the homosexuals attended boarding schools? You need to see the kids who attended day schools who arent attracted to the opposite sex.

Well
Its depends on the type of child you have.
If your ward is not outspoken and sluggish, plz don't send them to boarding.

I was a boarder am tho the disadavantages are not dismisable, is still much benefits of send ones child there, give for example there was this boy i met when i was in jss3 his mom sent him back from the states at 13 yrs to come down to nigeria and go to boarding school just so he doesnt wake up tomorrow and say there is boborisky spirit in him and so he gets him manners and characters checked and just so u know his dad is a citizen (white) my point is ur child grow up to be useful at an early age to himself and the soceity in general so i believe u will make d right decisions

Boarding school is a no for me

I went to 2 boarding schools.

The bad part of it is..between 11yrs to 18yrs is the best time to stay with your child and teach him or her what values are.

Leaved them at that age for others to train..u may never get them back

Good thinking. Boarding schools were good up to early 1980s. Thereafter things turn haywire. If you send your child to be a boarder today, you have done him/her a great disservice. He/she will pick up all and everything bad - drugs, crooked thinking like homosexualism, alcohol abuse, religious fanaticism etc.

I'm a proud Alumni if USS Ode-Aye. my experience while in boarding school has helped in quite numbers of way, especially when I gained admission into the university.

1. if you finished from body school, there will be an urge to always study hard, which will help you when you gain admission into higher institution. reading is a trait that's already been incorporated into every student that finished from boarding school. there, reading class is very compulsory for every student.
2. hardly you will see an ex boarding school student that is lazy and wake up by 7 or 8 am. coz they used to waking up as early as possible for morning devotions and doing hostel chores. it will surely help them in the higher institution
3. Boarding school student are very wise and not easily taken in by any for of hanky panky. you cannot cheat on them. they're super smart.
4. They're always neat. coz in some boarding school putting on shaggy clothes attract punishment. so even after leaving the body school, majority of them still stick to that.
5. They are very rugged and can thrive anywhere without relying on their parents, can adapt to any condition in life without being weighed down
6. they learn how to manage food, money and others they have. they're frugal
7. they're not addicted to social media, coz in most boarding school, using phone is prohibited.
8. they can't be a victim of any form of immoral television program that is common nowadays. coz they are closely monitored.
9. offers a great opportunity for student to discovered their talent. like sporting activities, music etc
10 boarding school can help your children to build the leadership instinct in them.

As For Me, I Don't Know If Boarding House Spoils Children --It Didn't Spoil Me And All My Level Mates That I'm Still In Communication With (Male And Female). However, I Was Already Exposed To A Lot Of Good And Bad Before I Was Done With Primary School. Boarding Experience Made Me Strong Physically, Mentally Etc. Being A Junior (Ss1&2), I Had To Pick Up Some Bad Attitude (lying) In Order To Survive. I Unlearnt Them In Ss3. Some Of The So-called 'bad Boys' I Knew In Boarding School Then, Have Been Transformed To Caring And Hardworking Guys. If I Hadn't Attended A Boarding School, I Highly Doubt I'd Be Able To Make The Much Progress I've Made In My Short Years Of Existence On Earth.

80s was pure. 90s was sane to some extent. I will never counsel anyone to send their kids to one.

I strongly believe that human beings should not have children if they do not know the purpose of LIFE and Existence.

And if you know the purpose of LIFE and Existence, the young should be raised by their parents in loving, creative, educational environment devoid of external influences. That is called Home.

It is okay to vet and hire the best brains in the Mathematics, Languages, Quantum Sciences and zero Religions but Skills, Money Management and Global Economics.

Boarding Schooling is businesses and owners of those businesses have marketed it in a way that parents have forgotten the core reason of inductive learning.

If you have no chance to Educate yourself holistically on Life and Existence, it is pointless having children. Because you end up bringing Spirits into this reality and loading their blank memory chips with concocted cocktails of information that defragments their compartmentalized faculties and leave them confused.

Boarding school becomes an escape route for parents who think money can solve their laziness.

Raise your kids in love. Stop relegating your responsibilities to strangers simply because you are too lazy and think money can pay for your suspended responsibilities.

Once a child is 18. Get that child a living and residence outside the home to make mistakes and learn Independence.

18 years is not a long time to tolerate the inconveniences and raise a Soul.

Peace and Love to you all.

God bless you for this piece!!
Most people give birth to children they ain’t prepared to raise. They use Nannies, housemaids and when the child is of age they shipped them away from home/parents to boarding house - some as early as primary school such children learn to live like ‘orphans’.

It will help your children build life long relationships

Your children will form friendships that will last a lifetime

Your children will understand and cope with life better

Your children will learn how to live with people and cope in difficult circumstances

It will bring out the best in him/her

It's the best way to start life "the road is never easy"

In as much as it tries to make a child independent,it makes the child grow up with the idea of survival instead of care and love and this has every tendency to make such a child selfish, stingy and bossy at a very early age.Imagine a kid growing up with such mentality.(socio-economic aspect)
Sexually; it exposes them to frequent practises of immortality in empty class rooms or around secluded areas within the school premises at a very early age because the teachers and house masters may not be able to cocktail them all and these kids are not close to parents to discuss such issues.
Thank you.

I never wanted to comment before.
I scrolled through all the comments to see if someone will correct you concerning the social life you talked about.
Oga,there's very little social life in boarding school.
Day school students are very much social.
I have a few boarders as friends in school and I can tell you that their social life is very poor. They are not comfortable with opposite gender.
Give Social life Credits to the Day School students but brilliance to the Boarders.
