4m upfront every year plus close to 200k every month (upfront has being increased recently but I don't know the new amount yet)

Unfortunately, most of them have no spaces for entry level (except the IOCs and maybe Seplat). No time to train. Thet prefer experienced people.

And most of the openings are hardly advertised (except for the IOCs). Informal industry networking.

A friend of mine got GT Eland two years ago by strong referral and one is currently at a well paying oil firm, connect to strong (they didn't even bother trying NNPC when they heard of the pay)......

While your assertion that most of those firms don't want entry level as they don't have time to train is true, few people with long spoon still get into GT slot at those places albeit few or you want tell me say if the MD of LEKOIL na my direct uncle I no go dey work for the place by now.

We are saying the same thing. Side hustles are what they are - "side hustles" to make additional income. If your remuneration takes care of the level of lifestyle you desire for yourself, there may not be need for side hustle and if it is a side hustle born out of passion, you'd leave d job and go face it. However, I hope people are not going to the NNPC with the mindset of doing government job whereby you spend most of your time doing your personal stuff? Because, this is how you seem to sound from your comment

I am not planning to be lazy on the job... I made mention of further development on the job too. I asked question on staff development and they mentioned robust system that makes sure their staffs are useful for designated roles. (that is the question I asked my panel when I was given the chance to ask question).

I also underwent the recruitment for 2 reasons

1, To get first hand information for our interview coaching service for my side venture.

2, NNPC is a nice place to work for stability and security, but the minimum position that can be commensurate to my current earnings is Deputy Manager and NNPC requires 18 years for that - I have 11 years. As I know I'm not qualified for managerial position, I applied for the 9 year supervisor position, which I know I will get. But not likely to take the offer as the pay for that level is significantly lower than my current. I have several friends in this situation too (like the one I chatted with up here).

Same with me. I have 8 years experience but applied for senior officer since i dont hv the 9yrs for supervisor. Though my pay almost same wt the ss4. But Mr Jarus does nysc counts as work experience? Bc they said post qualification experience not post nysc. Thanks Master

You are very correct.

I said they "hardly" not they "don't". It does not mean they don't recruit entry level people. They do. But few.

You also buttressed my point that it is usually by referral. Only in very few cases that they do open publication of openings.

how long does it take to climb in the IOCs. It takes 3years per step in NNPC?

They are all senior supervisors. SS1 is the most senior. Next after ss1 is m6, that is deputy manager. Then m5, m4, m3, m2, m1. Transition btw Ms does not follow any sequence. Is based on availability of slot. U can be jumped from e.g m5 to m2

NNPC - 18 years as an external applicant or as an internal person that started from entry level and getting promotion every 3 years (their regular promotion cycle). But possible for an internal person to get to managerial position in less than 18 years either by exceptional performance or "long leg" (fast promotion).

In the multinational space, promotions aren't driven by time alone. You have to build specific and measurable competencies before you can breakout and move to another level. Someone may do this faster than another person. You could be cross trained into a different role than that for which you were initially hired or posted abroad for international exposure. These things all come into play when promotion decisions are made. This isn't to say it's a perfect system. However, NNPC may be different given that it's government run.
My advice would be to go through the process and not worry too much about how long it might take you to go up the food chain.
