Hi guys Please has anyone witnessed this...visa approved at point of interview but received a mail a day later for supplemental questions without being issued a yellow form? Again, how long after visa approval will the status change to issued? Thanks in anticipation of your response. |

bayocanny:Romanus abi romancer ![]() Since you mentioned funding, I figured it's a PhD or Masters. I stand to be corrected. 1) Expect to be ignored! Some professors are so unromantic, no matter how sexy and seductive your emails are, no greenlight for you, konji wee finish you Romanus ![]() 2) Make sure your mail has a good subject. If the subject is horrible, it's a huge turn off. The subject should be precise, strike the balls! 3) Be polite and formal. Begin with Dear Professor Sharwama, not Dear Sir/Madam! Don't exchange pleasantries ![]() Introduce yourself briefly in the first paragraph, sell yourself in 2-3 sentences. Make it clear you are from Nigeria not Africa ![]() 2nd Paragraph Recognise and indicate interest in the professor's research, talk about a recent work that captivated your interest, give brief specifics, say what you need. Make sure you have an indepth knowledge of the professor's recent publications. THIRD PARAGRAPH One sentence, reaffirm how much his or her mentorship would mean to you or something, indicate willingness to provide additional information, Thank the professor and anticipate a response. 4) Conclude with Sincerely or Respectfully, then your name. Remember to use a comma if your surname comes first. Please don't use "cheers", don't use "best regards", don't use "regards". I am not a professor but I find them disrespectful and inappropriate especially in a request email or when seeking for something. I will not answer you with my church mind again again, regards kee you dia ![]() ![]() 5) Make sure your CV and transcripts and test scores are ready but do not attach them to the mail. If a Professor needs more information, provide upon request only. 6) Prepare for Skype or video kini interview. Make sure you schedule it when it's appropriate for you and the professor. Make sure you have done thorough research on the professor's research interest and publications, so you can have something to chat about, apart from your own research experience and career goals. Hey Fada! I remember skyping with my potential supervisor in April, it felt so amazing. I fell in love with his smile and jerry curl He didn't think I knew a lot about his research, so when I started talking about some recent publications and asking questions that his findings didn't really answer, he just told me on the spot "I don't know the answers to your questions, so how about we find out together when you come over" That's how I got a lab and a thesis topic on the spot. Yes, I loved it ![]() So when other professors started reaching out to me, it was too late, I was taken ![]() See why I told the VO I already built a great student-faculty relationship with my potential supervisor ![]() There's a message in this story, if it's for you, take it. I hope you or someone else finds this helpful. God bless you and God bless these United States of America ![]() |

Guys, I was thinking, and the older guys could help out if necessary Some of us leaving need support, (not financial ohh Infact anybody that makes such requests will be blocked ) instead of just being thrown into the deep endWe need to network, keep in touch and share opportunities if necessary And help others too who come via this platform as well Information is power, there are lots of things we can learn from each other, solutions can be proffered, mentorship and career advices only for students in status, or resident graduates(there should be a means of verification before being accepted into the group) @lagosismyhome is this possible ma? I believe as one of the elder ones you would be in great position to champion such a good cause. Just an idea, I hope others like it tho Cos personally I’m already struggling with information, about going into a new country, no friends, and I’m yet to find a Nigerian student there, it helps having a mentor |

Wretch32:You already have a network with the persons(s) that have assisted you up to this level. Your conversations with them can now grow beyond visa related issues, into much deeper issues. Have you tried to check the LinkedIn page of your school? That's a cool place to link up with Nigerians around your new neighborhood. |

I’ve been on LinkedIn searching for them since after my visa interview and I’ve found none I don’t think my suggestion is entirely bad tho, I received very little assistance to be honest and only person I got any from was fairheart, and of course you responded as well when I reached out to you but yeah I just believe we can build a strong network (voluntarily) but of course, it’s not a do or die affair If nobody is interested, in the end we go all dey alright Porpor: |

Predstan:Like I said I wasn't really prepared for that, I was in Nigeria then, I left Nigeria on the 7th of March, and since she asked me have I traveled before, I just said yes to Ghana, and the next thing was where I was on the 5th of March. |

Wretch32:Haaaa Bro. Connection with nigerians in the USA. U better take am easy and connect with your professors and collegues. Don’t network with anyone from Nigeria. When you get there, you can scrutinize for like minds and no go jam Agbako cus if you jam one, your body go kaako |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Predstan: 6:34am On Jul 18, 2019 |
francis00:The thing is, if that was your first traveling out of Nigeria and the only stamp on your passport. You will never forget the date. I can tell you exactly where I was on the 16th of February 2018. But e never spoil, no go let anybody tell u say u no ft scape through. Just wait for their decision. There is nothing you can do about it right now so wait patiently bro. |
