Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Umar Bellel, has been buried according to Islamic rites, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that DCP Bellel was killed in today's Shiites protest in the nation's capital.

Umar Bellel was Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the FCT police command, in Abuja.

Igbere TV reports that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, on Monday, stormed the streets of Abuja in a violent protest.

The group is protesting the continued detention of their spiritual leader, El-Zazaky, by the federal government.

The victim, Igbere TV learnt, is a father of one. We were able to obtain a photo of himself and his only child, a girl.

DCP Bellel was killed by Shiite protesters while trying to prevent destruction of properties at the federal secretariat and three arms zone, Abuja.

Earlier a funeral prayer was held at the National Mosque, Abuja, in honour of the fallen police officer.

He was reportedly buried at the National Cemetery, Abuja.

Three other officers are still lying in critical condition at the National hospital, Abuja, as at press time.

I feel like tearing up like seriously.

This man served Nigeria and forgot to serve himself.

Just check out a whole DCP's couch..to tell you how poorly catered for by the government our service personnel are.

This country is indeed the origin of demorlization and de-motivation.

What a way to live and die...

Sometimes I just feel this Islamic style of sharp sharp interment go don make dem bury so many unconscious people alive.

Dem for still try wait till tomorrow small na..perhaps he just could kick back to life.

Buhari should release the man for peace to reign. If he courts have granted him bail, then release him.

You can place him under heavy security upon his release to reduce his ability to become a nuisance.

Even the Northern governors are requesting for his release.

I'm sure just requesting Iran to talk sense to him will prevent him from being a nuisance or threat to others.

Everyone is throwing out his or her sentiment for the police but no one will remember that 11 innocent Shiite people killed and 30 injured by police just for asking Buhari to obey court order also has family members and loved ones.

When whoever that kills with sword is killed with sword, I don't pity him or her, I simply pray for any family member or friends of his that never supported him while he was alive

You will still read the news here on Nairaland that the widow of late slain DCP so so and so was seen carrying placard with a baby protesting for non payment of her late husband's entitlements, is it not Nigeria again, yeye nation by liverless citizens undecided

It's so unfortunate that things have degenerated into this.

Honestly, we don't even know what is true anymore.

But in my own opinion thank God it's Buhari ( a Muslim) that is handling this Shiite issue, if it were to be a Christian President, this nation would have burned.

I think Mr. President intended taming another group that could become radical extremist, but right now, it's looking terrible.

Did they have a gun?

Did they seize a gun from the police?

Was it a case of friendly fire?

What was live ammunition doing in an internal civil unrest/protest?

So sad. I now see the reason y some family men say "I have kids at home and they are still very small and a beautiful young wife I can not come and go and die " imagine this little girl growing up without knowing her father.
