Nigeria needs to develop to the stage where non payment of loans will not lead to arrest by the police like it is done in civilised climes. Las las, your name or guarantors name will be unable to get a loan for 6 years but not arrest by police and btw the police in Nigeria need their head examined as that is not what they were set up for.

If the threat of arrest by police was not brought into the equation, then the hapless woman would not have committed suicide. She may have reasoned that - iku ya ju esin lo - meaning death before the dishonour of arrest and imprisonment.

To those blaming the woman for committing suicide, you never know how strong your internal demons are and how fickle and fragile your mental health is until it is put under strain by this thing called LIFE.

My mum signed As a guarantor for a contractor. This man seemed to be doing well at the time when he borrowed the money. This was in 2003. She helped him borrow 700,000; this money accrued to about 2.5 million with interest. The man never paid the principal or interest except 1ce which is the first month. Because my mum was his guarantor, she was forced to pay the money, which she did in over 3 years. Both principal and interest. I can never help anyone guarantee for money they don’t have.

In Abuja here, LAPO no send you o when it comes to collecting their money back. Somebody have stood for me as a guarantor before, and i paid their loan even when i was unable to pay in some cases, they gave me time and i balanced them off. Don't ever collect loan if your business is not bringing in daily income, understand your business very well before collecting loan. Don't go for loan because your friends collected or because you don't want to stay at home, understand your business very well before going for loan. I wonder how much the person she stood for actually collected that will warrant that woman to kill herself. LAPO will not give you more than 50 or 60k for a start as a new member here in Abuja.

Once a debtor dies, insurance company returns the outstanding loan to the bank.
Sadly buth true, her death is a welcome development for d bank n cbn who collects returns periodically from d banks.

N200k is big money for some people o.

Illiteracy is a problem. Even if she was arrested, the issue is a civil one.

The worst that could have happened was to reach an agreement on how best she could pay the money back gradually.

Those who commit suicides are wicked, selfish and evil. There are thousands of people looking for body parts such as heart, kidneys etc in the hospital to replace failing ones.

It is better to go and donate or even sell some of these parts to raise the money she needed. Why suicide?

Now she is going to rot in hell forever because God is against taking one's own life. It is a big sin sad

Why take her life when she isn't the one that default, I suppose she did so to wave off shame, reprimand by the husband for not informing him on such weighty matters and public opprobrium that may follow, whatever her justification for doing this cannot equate the trauma and damage caused her family and friends by this act!

The MFB has already giving her a soft landing through an instalmental payment arrangement, for which she will not be crucified even if she defaults along the line. Suicide should never be consider whether as a first call or a last resort in any situation, however grave and perplexing it may appear for there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.
