Rohr is the SE coach
Udoh's article was about why THE SE coach shouldn't pick local talent
Rohr has not improved the SE in any way at all
Our local coaches used to reach semis and finals in AFCON ffs
We should go for a world class dutch coach cuz our pattern of play is closer to theirs
What has this has to do with the crux in the article that There's no one in the league to replace retired legs
I doubt if you follow the league than me. If you do list two each that can fill in for Mikel and Ighalo's places

Come to think of it, Iheanacho played alot like Nicolas Pepe at U17s. Almost identical skill set and good shooting ability.

You people act like they are taking pay cuts to leave the country. They leave for greener pastures simple as that.
Is leaving for greener pastures suppose to DRAIN the league? Isn't it this just a buttress of the dearth in the league? How is it that less than 3-5 players leave the league and it altogether becomes dull at once.

Do the Belgian,Danish league etc not get a talent drain but replenish just as quicker? Why don't we have same here?

Fam i weak
Even R9 and top south american ballers had to move to europe
Did this drain quality in their leagues. What are you missing?

Why is the league not replenishing as much as they lose (Considering that we aren't even losing in numbers)

There are enough players in NPFL to replace ighalo and mikel(who to me are bang average)
Dont get carried away by ighalo's golden boot,he was awful in afcon and only other teams' lack of strikers aided his feat(pls dont call mane, salah cuz they were worse)
If u dont give players a chance u won't know if they are good enough
Fergie sold hughes, kanchelksis and ince and replaced em with scholes, butt and beckham
Man u fans were asking for his sack yet today those names are legendary in MUFC
Another bloke said the quality is not the same as in the 90's but that is a lie
Qualitycan never hide,it just needs nuturing and guidance instead of calling every foreign based nigerian

Rivaldo,aimar,aldair,leonardo,romario,zico
Of course it drained quality in their leagues
Saying players are not good enough is a farce
Pep and cryuff molded barca in their own image
Fergie built team after team at united
A talented player not coached properly is a liablity
If in doubt look at ravel morrison

Spot on.

Quality leagues attract quality. Players leave Belgium every year but they find good replacements.

You might want to read cryuff's my turn and also listen to pep's interviews where he said cryuff blocked his release from la masia
Iniesta was always going to flourish under lvg
So you're saying we have Pep Guardiolas that haven't flourished because of poor coaching?? I don't believe that one bit.
Like Tbaba123 said - no decent player sticks at the NPFL for more than 2-3 years.
If the league had Okochas, Olisehs, Mikels, etc...they would've been discovered by now or playing for big teams.
This is the 2010s...talents are not hiding.

CR9 left but that didn't diminish the value of players coming from the Portuguese leagues.

The bulk of the senior team started their careers from Portugal.

Our league is crap due to poor management and corruption. It may take 20 yrs of hard work to build a quality league.

But in Naija, as soon as leadership changes hands, the new guard tends to put down and destroy the work of the old guard and thus, there is no continuity.

So give or take, it will take 100 yrs to build a quality NPFL

Nice one from Rohr.

Hope Iheanacho repays the faith this man has in him.

Not many coaches are so benevolent. Even the very good ones

The league loses big talents but it is like a revolving door. Some go out and some come in. After Stephen Odey there was Lokosa and even after him the Kano pillars still almost won a double this year.

What the league is really missing are names but there is still big talent here. These guys become household names and leave and this makes it hard for the public to keep up.

Yet a lot of them went for those trials abroad , but failed to get clubs.

Greener pasture is obviously one of the reasons, but if you are not good, even Sunday league team, you won't see

Stephen Odey failed trials but yet he got bought for millions just last month. Failing trials doesn't mean you lack talent. Alhassan Ibrahim failed trials and didn't get signed until he played for akwa united.

I no see wetin KP play this year neither did I see another talent in their squad. They were average in the abridged league and playoffs, I didn't see the FA. That's by the way sha

Talent beget names baba. Do household names not leave the Brazilian league? Are household names not created afterwards- almost instantaneously?

The way the league is(especially in the last 5yrs), the ration between talent and ordinaries is too small for any noise. This is reality slapping us in the face, however I can agree there is "unseen/perceived" talent being hampered by quality coach, structures etc

Just by watching the performance of our local players at WAFU nations cup and CHAN, u can see how poor our league is!! Abysmal performances here and there..that's a reflection of the poor structure of the league...
Mostly its due to poor coaching and the fact that almost all npfl clubs don't have a youth team .they resort to signing players from anywhere, most of whom don't know the basics of modern day football!
A total overhaul of the league is needed!!
make we no lie,it's crap!!
