A man I know once said in his family if a wife commits adultery, her business will crumble and she must be taken to his village to appease his family deity. But your guess is as good as mine as the same man will receive no punishment from the same deity if he commits adultery. Does this mean that African deities are patriarchal?

A friend of mine once told me, too, that if a wife cheats in his family then she will fall seriously sick, but nothing however befalls a man who commits the same offence? Once again, are African deities patriarchal?

If African deities are so patriarchal, are they man-made too?

All gods are man made and were created by men at a time when man was very much ignorant, patriarchal and barbaric.

That is why you see most religious practises are absurd and even their so called holy books like the bible and Qur'an and filled with a lot of violence, support rape and genocide.

It is a shame that modern people who are supposed to be enlightened take religious nonsense seriously.

All gods and religions belong in the

all male african gods have the female version

lets be realistic, it is not only african religion that gives rules to women but also christianity and other religions

the reality is most of the rules were set up to put fear on the women so that they wont go astray just like other religion do.

African deities were the truth before the Truth. They were acceptable to God because that's all the truth we knew at that time.

But after Christianity came they no longer serve any use. The moon becomes useless when the sun rises.

All gods are man made! But that does not mean we can't learn anything from their tales and religious books!

A lot of wisdom are embedded in their books and legends.

But they are patriarchal mainly because they were created by men. They have laws to control humans e.g do not steal or commit adultery etc. But they seem to be sexist. Although, as strange as it may seem, it has really done a great job in maintaining law and order in the society.

If it is true that the African deities are set up to scare wives over infidelity, it should be known to women that the deities can't do them anything, thus scaring them with these deities is fruitless.
