Marriage is not an achievement - Uriel Oputa by NairaMedia: 4:45am On Aug 04, 2019
Former Big Brother Nigeria housemate, Uriel Oputa, while chatting with PUNCH, says that marriage is not an accomplishment.

She said, “I feel that one’s personal life should be kept private. Your life should be personalised to you, and not anybody else. Because someone got married at 19 or 25 doesn’t mean you must get married at that age. We all have different times. Nigerian men and family members should stop pressurising women into getting married. The divorce rate in the country is very high at the moment. People are rushing out of marriages the same way they rush in. I have a friend who got married and has two kids, but she’s now divorced. And she has to take care of her children. These days, people just get married for the wrong reasons. I would rather stay single than end up marrying the wrong person. Marriage is not an achievement. I did not go to school just to get married.”

Uriel also said: she wouldn’t even invite friends for the big day! She said, “We need to celebrate the little things. When people get married, it’s so elaborate and colourful with the best food, music, clothing and other things. When I do get married, I’m going to have the smallest wedding ever. I wouldn’t even invite my friends. It is just going to be, my husband and my immediate family (my brothers and my mum).”

Yes, you are right but by the time you start visiting every church, prophets and babalawos seeking marital help then you will understand that marriage to an extent is an achievement

Thanks for sharing

But don't you think that every marriage is the union of 2 IMPERFECT people?

Who determines who is the RIGHT person or the WRONG one?

Certainly divorce rates seem to be off the charts, but won't you learn more by seeking out role models who have successfully BUILT their marriages?

Yes, building a lasting relationship is WORK! It doesn't happen "happily-ever-after" or in super slo-mo like in the movies

And that's a key issue I keep seeing: the people who aren't ready to COMMIT to building a lasting relationship will keep finding faults and pointing accusing fingers at the "WRONG" person...

Thanks again

Yes it is not an achievement, but there is great satisfaction in knowing you can share your moments with someone,it is such joy to see your sons have a sane *man* to look up to. It is great to have someone to share your bed with.

Most of these women who say this abroad ,have pets they treat like humans and some even work over time to avoid going to an empty house .well to each his own.

She didn't tell a single lie but people who cannot think outside all of the cultural nonsense that fills their juvenile minds will get angry at this.

We follow American trend without really understanding the reasons why Americans do what they do. Marriage is indeed not an achievement but family value is something that create wealth, peace and unity. Nevertheless no one should rush into marriage without understanding what marriage is all about.
