Yoruba language was spoken in the video and when the elephants turned around to chase them, that was when they started running helter skelter with the popular yoruba slogan..." egba wa o" (make una save us o)!!

We are sure they came back to pick the phone they were using to record much later!

We hope the villagers won't hack them down in 24 hours.

It is true. For those who don’t believe it happened in Nigeria.
The Forests of Ogun and Ondo state are one of the few places left in all West Africa where elephants still exist and roam in the wild.

These are forest elephants, which were once thought to be the same with their savannah cousins on eastern and southern Africa. But upon further investigation and genomic profiling, have been found to be a different sub-species with subtle differences.

Unfortunately, I am sad and very much frightened for their safety, now that they are being seen by everyday people- knowing the kind of country this is.
In a locale like Naija, sometimes it is better for people not to know that certain things even exist... was it not barely 2 weeks ago that Bayelsa people massacred a beached whale to the bones, as if common fish is what they haven’t eaten before.

This is a heart-warming video. How can children be reading about elephants n tigers in books without ever seeing one?

Abeg make them no kill those elephants for meat.. Lately we are fond of killing everything for the meat..snake o! whale o! monkey ! dog o! everything!!!

Highly endangered Forest Elephants, I doubt if this is Nigeria..

Of course we have elephants in Nigeria. Forest or Bush Elephants I think. I remember Ogun State farmers complaining one time like that that these elephants have been destroying their farm produce.
