sorry to ask, is elephant a dangerous animal, I thought they are herbivorous animals and don't feed on flesh, can they really run fast considering their size

Google is your friend....
As to how fast an elephant can be despite it's weight see link below
https://www.quora.com/Can-an-elephant-outrun-a-human

As to how dangerous an elephant can be, read up on young male elephants.

Many people get killed by large animals such as Hippopotamus and elephants because they think they can run faster than them not knowing that these animals are faster than even Usain Bolt

just because they are herbivores doesn't mean they won't kill other animals

Yes they're herbivores but if they think you're a threat to their safety they can charge at you and attack. You know, just like domestic cows and rams.

Wild animals are not used to humans, so if you see even a wild goat try to keep some distance and give it some respect. Encroaching their privacy means you're a potential threat to their life.

Abi o, leave him .. he should wait to see what being smashed under the foot feels like.. every animal has a flight-or-fight response when they sense danger

The accents of Togolese/Beniniose Yorubas are very different. Same way the accent of an Oyo man is different from an Ondo man, and also different from a Lagosian when speaking Yoruba despite the fact they are all Nigerian Yorubas.

And where did they leave it to be walking majestically like that to? Instead of them to attack the beast.
Hmmm.... We dont want to hear stories that touch the heart o cos small children may be coming that path and now jam with the elephant.

For now, na indoor activities sure pass somebody can not come and go and be doing outdoor tinz where this beast roameth about.

It is true. For those who don’t believe it happened in Nigeria.
The Forests of Ogun and Ondo state are one of the few places left in all West Africa where elephants still exist and roam in the wild.

These are forest elephants, which were once thought to be the same with their savannah cousins on eastern and southern Africa. But upon further investigation and genomic profiling, have been found to be a different sub-species with subtle differences.

Unfortunately, I am sad and very much frightened for their safety, now that they are being seen by everyday people- knowing the kind of country this is. cry
In a locale like Naija, sometimes it is better for people not to know that certain things even exist... was it not barely 2 weeks ago that Bayelsa people massacred a beached whale to the bones, as if common fish is what they haven’t eaten before.

Much love and respect to the great one. Like Yorubas would say; “Ajanaku ti n mi igbo kiji-kiji” The movers and shakers of the African bush.

Thank you sugar! I guess that was why the poster was not explicit about exact location. May God continue to protect the elephants in the wild.

Where did you hear egba wa o? You forced me to watched the video again and after several views i heard nothing like egba wa o.
I heard Modaran won po, olorun won po (Am doomed, they are plenty, True to God they are plenty)
Won den sare e (The are moving speedily)
won ti nbo, won ti nbo (They are coming, they are coming)

post=81204099:

Yoruba language was spoken in the video and when the elephants turned around to chase them, that was when they started running helter skelter with the popular yoruba slogan..." egba wa o" (make una save us o)!!

We are sure they came back to pick the phone they were using to record much later! cheesy

The correct word is haphazard pronounced 'hap-hazard'

But Nigerian English sees it as 'haph-azard' hence your miss spelling. It's just like we also shepherd 'sheffad' when it is really 'shep-had'

Wherever there are elephants, lions can't be too far away. I pity all these people entering forest half naked with camera phone. You just never know what is lurking in the shadows, just pray you won't be filming an elephant when a hungry lion is filming you grin

Let's keep poachers from them as far as possible and strongest punishment possible for those who violate the wild animals. Preservation is key for a better tomorrow.
