Don't panic, go back to the airport. Use Twitter handle, tag both FAAN and Etihad. Lay your complain. FAAN district is at the MM2, go make small noise. Your flight will be rescheduled. And you pay minimal of about 5-7k that's all

Just hope you'd read my message on time. to get quick response since call failed, use Twitter. at same time, go on their website and use their live chat to chat with a customer care representative

Hi, dear. I don't believe she's playing any games. You must understand that the fare given to you for your travel date may not be available on the new date given to you. Also, "no show" fee, revalidation fee and possibly, difference in seat availability have all been added hence the huge amount you are complaining about. No show fee is not the same as the change of date fee you paid for if am correct.

The one you paid allows you change your date before the flight date subject to seat availability.

The no show fee should have been included in the economy flex or flexible ticket.

I think you will have to pay.

Maybe destiny does not want you to return in pieces. Accept it as fate.

I have been looking forward to when our Nairaland will get to that stage when people discuss issues intelligently.

I am tired already with village people responses, tribal comments, space bookers, childish 'first to comment' and all sorts. A time it was I had to abandon the site with the invasion of garri comments. Currently, what we have now are very unintelligent posts linked to blogsites. If I want to browse Nigerian blogs it shouldn't be Nairaland that will teach me that.

That said, you can call Etihad's 24-hour contact center on +971600555666 since you booked online. Don't call their Nigerian office. Ensure you have enough airtime to last you till you get the issue resolved. Also request to know the person you speak with so that you don't waste time explaining your issue afresh to a new person if you have to call them back.

Other points to note:
1. The class of your ticket determines what you are entitled to. Most of us care leas about this when we are in search of cheap tickets. I once booked a flight within Europe that I couldn't check in my perfume as I could not carry it onboard. I dropped it in the dust bin because the extra cost charged at the airport was more than the cost of the perfume itself. I didn't check the conditions of the class when I booked the ticket.

2. When you don't appear for your flight (or missed your flight) it is called 'No Show' and it has a penalty depending on your ticket class.

3. Changing of date fee applies to changing the date/time of travel. You do this usually within a time limit before the flight. But in your case, the flight already departed. So the $75 you have on your Economy Classic ticket might not actually be the amount you should pay as your ticket was rebooked after checking/departure.

4. Most importantly, when a ticket date/time is changed, a new fee may apply particularly if the date is quite close as in your case. The cost of the seat you paid for earlier might not be the same they are putting you on. Funny enough, I have once received a refund from Lufthansa by moving my flight to a much farther date.

Factoring all these, you will still have to pay and the earlier you raise the 75k the better for you so you will be on the safe side.

But I shouldn't conclude as I expect you to still call Etihad English, 20 minutes international call will do it.
Be armed with your ticket details. Good luck sir and I should say anyhow, safe journey sir. You are flying tomorrow for sure.

Guess my advice is late but probably still useful for others. It didn't dawn on me that he is flying tonight.

OP, I do hope you get all the help you need. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with Ethiad, but if you still haven’t been able to reach them, you could @ them on Twitter. I find it faster to get corporate organizations to respond that way.
Next time, try to check-in online for your flight. For most middle-eastern flights, online check in opens up to 24 hours before departure. Also remember, for international flights, you are advised to get to the airport at least 4 hours prior to departure time. Your still sleeping up to 10am when you have a 1.30pm flight to catch show more than a little tardiness.

Best response. Just contact Etihad directly as soon as possible. Then make sure you try to raise even more than that 75k because the next flights might be almost fully booked which makes rebooking more expensive

I advise you pay the 75k. Apart from paying the no show fee wich is 75 usd, you have to pay the difference in air fare between the new booking and your previous one, if any. Its possible you go there tomorrow and they tell you the air fare has increased and you have to pay more, or worse still, that there is no economy seat and you have to upgrade to business class.

Im not hard but realistic. He wants to live in abroad, so he must be really into everything.

I'm living in Germany. Do you think anybody will pity you if you miss your flight or any other appointment?! They will only shrug their shoulders and tell you to face your problem by yourself. Besides if you miss a flight normally you will have to buy a new ticket.

I hate the mentality of being sorry for someone, if the problem was caused by not being observant.

Thank God we are not Europeans. I see the way those guys live with everyone minding their own business and not caring for others. That's why the suicide rates over there are pretty high.
They may be ahead in terms of technology, economy and all but the communal life is virtually dead, I give it to Africans when it comes to that.
